Apidays New York 2024 - The Good, the Bad and the Governed by David O'Neill, ...
Future Commissions
1. Commission Unit Evaluation
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
- From audience feedback there was positive and constructive points, some of the positive points
included the layout of the products, the organisation of the information on the pages and that
there was a good use of cultural aspects involved in the products. Some of the constructive
criticism that was received is that there should have been more images included in the products
as it was not eye catching enough to the audience, that there should be more use of fonts to help
the products appear more creative and that there was too much information included in the
products which should have been reduced due to the limited amount of space.
What have you learnt from the feedback from your client throughout the project as well as the
final product?
- I have learnt multiple attributes from the client’s feedback throughout the project and for the final
product. One of the attributes I had learnt from the client’s feedback during the project was that
there were are going to be tweaks that needed to be made to the products and even when those
tweaks had been fulfilled the products needed continuous editing until the client had reached
satisfaction of the commission. The feedback from the client was almost entirely positive
comments due to the amount of editing and communication between the client which meant the
final outcome of the project was a piece that represented all the elements that the client required
and all the elements that I had inputted to be able to create overall successful products.
Critically reflect on each stage of the process: research, planning and production, how
successful were you at each stage in meeting the brief?
- There were three main stages to the process of completing the project which was research,
planning and production; each stage had to reflect the brief. Throughout the research, I focused
on covering each area in order to be able to have a full understanding of the resources and
materials needed to be able to create a successful product that met the brief, the research was
successful as each part of the brief was research before planning could be perused. The planning
of the process meant that there were some areas that needed to be covered such as budgeting,
copyright and legal issues. These were all research after the initial research of the project which
meant there was a full understanding of some barriers that could be presented in the duration of
the production, the research and completion of the planning was followed in accordance to the
brief which meant this section was also successful. The final stage in the process was the
production which was followed to the brief with added accessories which evidently were
successful from the evidence of feedback from the client, delegates, peers and tutors.
Consider the reasons why you may have had problems?
- Considering that there were issues and problems that were faced during the project there were
some reasons to why these issues and problems occurred. The main reason for facing issues
was because the brief was specific as was the client so there wasn’t much from for creativity and
diversity in the products. For this main reason one of the issues faced was that there was not
enough room for multiple images as there was a specific requirement with space and one of the
main complaints from peers was that there were not enough images featured on the products.
Why do you think you have been successful in other areas?
- I feel that I have been successful in some areas more than others because I have some more
experience and interest in these areas more so than others in the project. For instance I preferred
to complete large amounts of research so that I had a full understanding of the project and the
client I was communicating with before the beginning of the production. I preferred communicating
with the client so that I could understand what is expected of the product and what elements need
to be included in order to create successful products.
2. Where have you been most successful?
- The work that was produced was deemed successful overall from personal evaluation and
feedback from peers, tutors, delegates and clients. These successful attributes means that future
commissions can be just as triumphant although it does depend on the brief, client and
determinants.
1. The communication between the client and me.
2. The final outcome of the products was followed to the brief and to the client’s requests.
3. There is cultural diversity included in the products.
4. The final outcome of the products presented a creative outlook which was the main objective.
What is not so good about your work?
- The work that was produced included some faults; these faults could be improved for future
commissions although the issues needed to be addressed so there is an understanding of what
needs to be improved to create a successful commission.
1. The fonts were at times too crowded.
2. There were not enough images featured in the products.
3. The general presentation of the products did not present eye catching items.
What have you learnt from doing this project?
- From doing this project I have learnt skills that will be useful in future education and skills that will
be useful for a future career. These skills include social skills which is useful for communicating
between customers and clients, improved communication which is useful for communication
better between the client and I, improved knowledge which helps to be able to understand and
follow briefs more accurately.
How can you ensure that this work will be seen by other clients?
- There are some actions that can be perused in order to attract the attention of other clients to
ensure that the work will be seen. These actions include:
1. Creating a website to parade the successful and most impressive pieces of work.
2. Create poster or leaflets to present a creative form of parading the pieces of work.
3. Demonstrate the pieces of work in a presentation form which can be sent out to each
individual client.
