Welcome to Competition Monitor
Company Monitor is AcuComm’s new monthly publication which provides a comprehensive round
up of company activity in the global waste and waste-related industry. Company Monitor will tell
you which companies are currently actively involved in new investments, in which sectors and
parts of the world. Use it to benchmark your own company’s performance, identify new areas of
potential growth or simply keep an eye on the competition.
The data is taken from AcuComm’s proprietary Business Database. This is a database of projects
and their associated companies compiled and maintained by us on a daily basis. The information in
it – and therefore in company Monitor – is not readily available from any other source. The
analytics use a combination of reported and modelled data. We collect many thousands of points
of data regarding investment values, project capacity, power output and likely timescales. This
enables us to build models for determining these values on an industry-wide and industry-specific
scale. As a result, we are able to provide comprehensive analytic data which remains firmly
grounded in ‘real world’ information.
How do we present the data? Firstly, each project is allocated a principal facility type, such as
anaerobic digestion, gasification plant or WtE incineration plant. Secondly, each project is allocated
a principal feedstock type, such as municipal solid waste (MSW), plant biomass or food for
example. Then, the waste capacity and power generation capacity of each project is examined.
Company Monitor is divided into three main sections, Top Ten Companies This Month, Latest
Monthly Activity and Waste Industry Overview.
At various points in the PDF document, subscribers reading on their laptop or tablet will be able to
click through to see more data on projects, countries or companies mentioned in this issue.
I hope db Monitor is useful to you. If you have any questions, queries, data requests, or if you are
involved with a project which you would like to see included in our database – free of charge –
then please do get in touch.

Top Ten Companies This Month
This page lists the top ten companies covered this month, by the estimated dollar value of the projects with which they are involved. Note that this does not represent the full value of each project to an individual company – several
different companies can naturally work on a single project – and the figures below should not therefore be read as company-specific revenues.
The leading company this month is the Finnish Valmet, with three new projects. These comprise two biomass plants in Finland, and a WtE plant in China. AcuComm now lists 32 active projects in total for Valmet. This was followed by
the Chinese company, DP CleanTech, which also announced three new projects, all in China. AcuComm now lists 21 active projects in total for DP CleanTech.

These two pages list the top ten companies covered this month, by the estimated annualised tonnage capacity and power generation of the projects with which they are involved. The leading company this month is DP CleanTech,
which has three new projects listed. These have a combined estimated annual capacity of 2,274,800 tonnes. This is equal to an average of 758,267 tonnes each, or 2,370 tonnes per day (using a crude 320-day year for calculation
purposes). These projects are in the biomass sector, where throughput tends to be higher than in the pure waste sector.
Other companies this month with large new capacity announcements included Valmet, CCG (Scotland) Ltd and Comintel Green Technologies, all of which were involved with projects estimated to involve more than 200,000 tonnes.

Waste Investment Summary
The AcuComm waste database contains detailed information regarding over 5,000 active
waste and waste-related project investments around the world. These detail the activity of
over 6,500 companies, in a wide variety of roles. These companies involve around 15,000
named contacts. Our team of researchers add new and updated information on a daily
basis.
Each marker on the maps to the right indicates the location of a company, by headquarters,
in our database. This month, we showcase Germany in the lower map.
Contractors/engineers, equipment suppliers and operators are all marked separately.

The first graph on this page shows the percentage of
annualised tonnage capacity each company represents,
as listed by the project information in the AcuComm
database. This does not represent the total ‘installed
base’ for each company, as projects prior to 2013 are not
included. Rather, it represents a ranking of recent and
future activity in the industry.
The second shows the same company rankings, but this
time colour-coded to show the current development
stage of projects associated with each company;
planning, under construction and operational.

Competition Monitor issue 3 january 2018

  • 1. Issue 03 February 2018 Data for January 2018 In this issue: Data on 88 companies active in January 2018 in the waste, bioenergy and recycling fields Sector focuses on feedstock and technology types See which companies have been active in which sectors and countries across the world Analytic focus on the most important companies this month Links to a wealth of project, company and country data held in AcuComm’s waste database
  • 2. Welcome to Competition Monitor Company Monitor is AcuComm’s new monthly publication which provides a comprehensive round up of company activity in the global waste and waste-related industry. Company Monitor will tell you which companies are currently actively involved in new investments, in which sectors and parts of the world. Use it to benchmark your own company’s performance, identify new areas of potential growth or simply keep an eye on the competition. The data is taken from AcuComm’s proprietary Business Database. This is a database of projects and their associated companies compiled and maintained by us on a daily basis. The information in it – and therefore in company Monitor – is not readily available from any other source. The analytics use a combination of reported and modelled data. We collect many thousands of points of data regarding investment values, project capacity, power output and likely timescales. This enables us to build models for determining these values on an industry-wide and industry-specific scale. As a result, we are able to provide comprehensive analytic data which remains firmly grounded in ‘real world’ information. How do we present the data? Firstly, each project is allocated a principal facility type, such as anaerobic digestion, gasification plant or WtE incineration plant. Secondly, each project is allocated a principal feedstock type, such as municipal solid waste (MSW), plant biomass or food for example. Then, the waste capacity and power generation capacity of each project is examined. Company Monitor is divided into three main sections, Top Ten Companies This Month, Latest Monthly Activity and Waste Industry Overview. At various points in the PDF document, subscribers reading on their laptop or tablet will be able to click through to see more data on projects, countries or companies mentioned in this issue. I hope db Monitor is useful to you. If you have any questions, queries, data requests, or if you are involved with a project which you would like to see included in our database – free of charge – then please do get in touch.
