Conclusion
Topic Outline
3. Definition of Blood
- a vascular connective tissue
- in fluid form
- containing dissolve substances and blood
cells
- circulating
- throughout the vertebrate body
4. Definition of Blood
• It passes through the blood vessels
• And being pumped by the heart
• It is known as the “River of Life”
• Under the microscope , the color of
blood is pale yellow.
5. Functions of Blood
• It used to transport:
- oxygen from lungs to the cells
- carbon dioxide from cells to the lungs
- water and digested substances from digestive
tract to other organs
- stored food from one tissue to another as needed
- organic wastes to the excretory system
- hormones from glands to places of use
6. • It serves as defense mechanism
against foreign bodies
• It maintains temperature of the
entire body
• It maintains water balance in the
body
Functions of Blood
7. Blood Composition
• Blood Plasma
• Blood cells or corpuscles
- Red Blood Cells/Erythrocytes
- White Blood Cells/Leukocytes
- Platelets/Thrombocytes
9. • The clear, yellowish part is called serum
• It transports the blood cells and other
substances such as dissolved nutrients,
hormones and waste products
• Digested food are in the simplest form
Blood Plasma
10. Erythrocytes or Red Blood Cells
• Very small, disc-shaped cells
• Can be squeezed out of shape
• But can easily go back to normal form
• Deliver oxygen to the cells of the body and
collect carbon dioxide from the cells
• Are formed in the red marrow of the bone
11. Erythrocytes or Red Blood Cells
• Contains hemoglobin
*HEMOGLOBIN
- protein substances containing iron
- carries oxygen
- gives RBC its red color
12. Leukocytes or White Blood Cells
• They are larger than the Erythrocytes
• Also fewer in number compared to RBC
• Nuclei are big and sometimes, more
than one
• They are called Soldiers of the Body
because they fight and kill foreign
bodies such as bacteria and viruses.
13. Platelets/Thrombocytes
• Fragments from a bigger cell
(megakaryocyte)
• Have a lifespan of 8 to 10 days
• Rapture when exposed to air
• Responsible for clot formation and to
stop bleeding

16. Conclusion
BLOOD is…
• a fluid connective tissue
• consisting of plasma, the fluid part;
• inorganic minerals and digested food;
• corpuscles which are:
-Red Blood Cells/Erythrocytes
-Red Blood Cells/Leukocytes
-Platelets/Thrombocytes
• that circulates the in the entire body
