The purpose of this presentation is to:
Define Free Cooling,
Discuss the different types of free cooling systems that have, and are being used, along with the advantages and disadvantages of each,
Walk thru the design of a typical free cooling system while developing an understanding of the factors affecting performance and cost, and
Go thru “tips” for successful operation.
The VHX pictured in this slide offers that same uniqueness as the economizer we just talked about except we take it one step further with an option of a modulating damper to control water temperatures. This allows some serious design flexibility. The integrated bypass allows for on demand heat recovery, dual gas types and redundancy.

And finally an example of how you can go a step further by combining the VHX system with an air-to-air heat exchanger.
