8. Four Key WLA Trends in 2021

Completing a Radar on a market involves an intense
4-5 months of focus.
• Deep dive on new features and what should be
measured – working with key vendors.
• Over 30 interviews – 2-3 users of each product.
The end of the Radar process is a unique moment of
perspective, and these four interrelated trends stand out
as key to supporting broad automation orchestration.
That is powerful.

12. Integration with Anything and Everything

Automation orchestration requires broad integration.
WLA tools have seen more “out-of-the-box”
integrations to address new trends like data pipelines.
More importantly, there are also self-service means to
develop custom integrations, like with Control-M’s
Application Integrator.
WLA is also highly integrated into the DevOps
processes, like with Jobs as Code, and for
configuration management integrated with
software-defined infrastructure tools.

20. Future WLA Directions
© 2021 Enterprise Management Associates, Inc. 20
• Some in the WLA market are clearly innovating in new directions.
• Many innovations go beyond the traditional view of workload
automation and into areas of broader automation orchestration.
| @ema_research
• The market is changing in response to changes in
business needs as digital transformation changes the role
of IT in ways that make it more core to business processes.
• A significant result of the expanding role of WLA is the
expansion of users interacting with the WLA software
Old model: 5-15 person teams running WLA software
exclusively
New model: 100s or 1,000s of users from diverse roles
interacting through role-specific interfaces.
• WLA is reaching into online applications and
orchestrating automation across the business.
