6. MESSAGES FROM THE PRESIDENT
AND ACADEMICIANS
"Gujarat is the home of the
entrepreneurial spirit. We have so
many second and third generation
entrepreneurial businesses that need
professionalism to guide them into the
new business age. The EMBA
programmeme will give students with
entrepreneurial ambitions and
students coming from business
backgrounds the opportunity to
explore diverse facets of
professionalism that they can utilize
to successfully grow their businesses
beyond boundaries."
Shri Sanjay Lalbhai
(CMD, Arvind Ltd.) President,
Governing Body, Ahmedabad University
Family businesses are the backbone of
the Indian economy. However, sooner
or later they face challenges relating
to accountability, generational change,
renewal and professionalism, among
others. How these challenges are
handled oſten makes the difference
between success and failure.
Therefore it is of utmost importance
that the new generation that is poised
to take over these businesses is
educated about these challenges. Our
flagship EMBA programmeme is
designed to help the participants
confront precisely these challenges. It
is an innovative design that combines
domestic and international learning as
well as theory and practice. It is the
perfect setting for participants to think
about scaling new heights in their
personal and professional lives.
Dr. Shailendra Raj Mehta
Provost, Ahmedabad University

7. "What family driven businesses or
entrepreneurial ventures need is
progressive professionalism. That is
what transforms them from SMEs to
Industry Champions. The AU EMBA is
designed to deliver this."
Shri Prafull Anubhai
Chairman, Board of Management,
Ahmedabad University
"The EMBA programmeme will shape
the world view of its students to
operate in a globalised economic
environment. Budding entrepreneurs
and scions of family managed
businesses will be sensitised to the
need to blend entrepreneurship with
professionalism, risk with systems and
process, intuition and judgment with
analysis, change with continuity,
leadership with humanity and
creativity with everything. Students
will develop insights that will help
them lead their organizations to a
higher orbit."
Achal Bakeri
Chairman and Managing Director,
Symphony Limited
“Several new ventures and new
initiatives of family businesses do not
see the light of the day. The reasons
may be many; but important among
them could be the lack of formal and
relevant education that is weaved
together with the dream of a potential
entrepreneur and facts of business. We
sincerely and successfully attempt to
bring many supporting hands together
for “the learning by doing” of the
budding entrepreneurs and wards of
family business owners.”
Dr. Bhavesh Patel
Dean Amrut Mody School of Management,
Ahmedabad University

EMBA Batch 2013-14
Of the 52 years of my life ,I have been a first generation entrepreneur for 33 years Although having considerably made
my name in the Industry I belong to , I realized that in today’s competitive and ever changing business environment, my
traditional knowledge and experience of working would not be enough to take the business to the next level. Hence, I
decided to join AMSoM - EMBA along with my 23 year old daughter. The objective was simple – understanding the
complexities of business management in a structured manner . Bottom line is I wanted to be as updated as the next
generation. With all honesty, what I have learnt at AMSoM - EMBA is truly an eye opener. I realized that I knew just one
perspective to business management really well! The rest were either things I discounted in value or which I had never
explored - even aſter being in business for so long. AMSoM - EMBA offers all that is required to shape students into fine
entrepreneurs – however, students too need to take the initiative and absorb all of it. The Know your business - Grow
your business model is simple but profound. The more you know your business and learn about it, the more you will
earn by bringing in the best of practices. As an EMBA entrepreneur, I call it the ‘Save Money – Earn Money’ model. I can

EMBA to me is a complete

would position me better in
the field of family business.
International exposure at one
of the best universities in the
world, This course has
granted me good industry

enable me to connect the

of professors have made the
learning process simpler and
effective. Being from the field

certain business techniques,
both qualitative and

me. This course helped me

EMBA Batch 2010-2011
The EMBA programmeme has given me a mix of personal and professional growth which in turn will
help me in shaping myself for the long professional life that lies ahead of me. I can see an overall
difference in me and l am confident of my abilities which I would use to take my family business to
newer, unconquered heights. A Light House project in one's own business is a blessing in disguise,
which on completion of the course can be actually applied and developed into a totally new
business. Many concepts have become clearer and I have become strategically sound.
Aayushi Shah, EMBA Batch 2010-2011, Director, Sakar Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.
An MBA degree in itself is of no use until it comes with the proper skills. Education and
networks. These were my exact expectations from this programmeme. The chance to study
at the world renowned Cambridge University is indeed an added advantage. The course has
added to my skill-set, some of the most essential skills needed to become an entrepreneur
not just a businessman. A better understanding of the functions of an organisation as a
whole is what I got by the end of this progamme. Being able to have a holistic view of things
along with better analytical skills and improvement in presentation and communications is
