CONTENT CREATION IN SUNDERLAND
Intro : Over the last decade social media has become a key
part of so many people's lives, with studies suggesting that
there is a mighty 4.74 Billion Social media users, that's
59.3% of the worlds population which is absolutely insane.
With the sudden rise of social media, content creators have
appeared all over the world, and all though they all make
different types of content they're all chasing the same goal.
The chance to become a full time content creator.
So, I decided to talk about my own experience with content
creation and go into depth about what it's like to be a
content creator in Sunderland.
Segment 1 (Talking about my own experience with content
creation):
Hi my name is Elliot Daroczy I am currently 17 years old, and
I am from Sunderland England. Content creation is something
I've done for 7 years now and I have made so many different
types of videos over the years.
I started off as a kid making videos on his iPod, and I have
now I now how to comfortably create and edit videos. 1 of my
channels is an active part of the YouTube partner program, so
I now make money from some of my videos. The channel that
makes money is my unboxing channel, On this channel I make
raw videos about Beyblades then edit them to make them more
comedic, This channel actively gains views and subscribers,
so I am very proud of it's progression.
The channel I am currently putting a lot of time and effort
into is my personal channel, I put a lot more time and effort
into those videos, I script them and in my opinion script
writing is my main form of self expression, I love been able
to create these videos and bring my thoughts and feelings to
life in the form of a video. I really enjoy using my
character stills that one of my fans drew for me, it's great
to see that someone likes my work. It's nice to connect with
people online.
My latest addition to my social media pages is my Instagram
account, I originally created it as a way to voice my opinion
about my boyhood football club Sunderland. This Instagram
page has grew a lot over this last year and I now have an
active audience that reads my posts. This Instagram has also
helped open another door for me Journalism.
Recently I started a work placement at popular Sunderland

fanzine A Love Supreme, I write articles for them about the
club, and my articles go on there website. It's great to be
able to work with big companies and produce content for them.
My main goal in life is to become a successful content
creator, I really want to become something in life and
content creation is my main hobby, so it makes sense.
Sometimes I think I'm deluded, but I guess all stars have
that healthy streak of delusion.
Segment 2 (Talking about Sunderland)
So, the big question is does Sunderland enhance or restrict
my creativity? You see when it comes to journalism I would
say it enhances my creativity because the football club gives
me content to talk about on a regular basis, it's rare that a
subject creates ideas for you, so that's really helpful.
But on the other hand, when it comes to creating non football
related videos in the area there isn't really many places to
go and film, so I would say it can restrict your creativity
if that's what your going for. I know I answered that
question like a politician but there isn't one straight
answer, it really depends on what your trying to create.
One thing I have noticed is that there isn't really any big
content creators from Sunderland, which is quite surprising
because Sunderland is historically a creative city that built
it's reputation on shipbuilding, so it's sad to see that many
people are struggling to build their own successful social
media pages.
I think a big reason behind that is people don't put
themselves out there enough, how do you expect to grow a page
if your not even going to try. I do think we will see some
creators come out of Sunderland over this next decade though,
if you look at how quickly social media is growing, there's
bound to be some successful creators eventually.
Segment 3 (Creating a video in Sunderland)
I think the question of whether or not Sunderland as an area
enhances or restricts your creativity is a really interesting
one, so I decided to test things out myself and attempt to
create a video in they area.
The video I'm going to create, is an arcade video I will be
going to the local Bowling alley and playing on the machines.
Sunderland Bowl is one of Sunderland's main places to
socialise for young people, so I thought it would be a
fitting place to film.

They equipment I will need for this video is my current
phone, which I will be using to record most of the video, and
my old phone just so I can get some different shot angles of
me playing on the machines. Without further or do let's give
it ago.

Segment 4 (Analysing My Results)
So, after I finished recording my video I took some time to
reflect and analyze my results. I was
have to say I
pleasantly surprised with my results, for an area that had
been described as bad and restricting, I thought I had made a
cracking little video.
In my opinion this shows that you can create good videos in
Sunderland you just have to try, I think a lot of people give
up when the going gets tough.
I edit my videos using 2 main editing software's, Kinemaster
Diamond and Splice, I use Kinemaster to edit most of the
video, then I use splice to add some better transitions. They
work together nicely, so I use them both. I'll edit this
video up now, you've probably already seen it and I'm sure it
turned out well.
As a whole I really enjoy creating my content, I enjoy seeing
my thoughts and ideas come to life, it really keeps me sane
because I like working towards things, I like knowing that my
work is building something.
Segment 5 (Do you implement your regional identity into your
content)
Well I definitely implement my regional identity into my
journalism and Instagram posts, because I talk about
Sunderland AFC. I think it's good to implement your regional
identity into your content because it's who you are.
I guess when it comes to my YouTube videos, I automatically
implement some regional identity just by speaking, but I
don't make YouTube videos specifically about Sunderland. I
have thought about making videos about the area in the past,
but I guess here we are now.
A lot of creators implement regional identity into their
work, whether it be music artists doing songs about their
local area or even fighters representing their areas on their
gear, it's quite a common thing.

Sometimes it's best not to show your regional identity in
certain areas, for example it's probably best not to wear a
Sunderland top in Newcastle, or even go out in Glasgow
wearing a Rangers or Celtic top, just because some people get
really tribal about where they are from and might try to
cause you bother.
But as a whole I'd say regional identity is definitely a
welcome addition to an artists work.
Segment 6 (Would I recommend content creation in the
Sunderland)
So, would I recommend content creation in the Northeast?
Personally yes because It's a great thing to do in your spare
time, and it provides you with a creative outlet to express
your thoughts and feelings to the world.
I don't think anyone should let their local area restrict
their creativity or knock their confidence, because I think
as long as you create good content and have that self belief
you will do well.
I know that I wouldn't where I am today without content
creation, and I think it's good that people have a hobby to
focus on, so they don't end up going out on the streets and
getting into bother.
I have really enjoyed my content creation journey so far and
I am excited to see what the future holds.
