2. Task 2: Idea Development and Planning U9 2.1
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually
interesting. Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen
style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you
intend to realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
Planning will vary depending on if you are doing a web series, podcast or a fanzine.
Web-series: A script, storyboard, organisational docs and clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
Fanzine: Content outline, visual style, pagination, organisational documents.
Podcast: Script, organisational docs, clearance forms for your contributors/sources.
3. Mood board (or other idea development work):
For footage and
fotos I will add an
old vintage look
such as vhs and
film camera
These are the colours
I will use throughout
the documentary.
They match the Gucci
pallet
4. Risk
Assessment
Risks How to fix them
Tested positive for COVID Quarantine for 10 days or pay for the 5 day
test release to get out of it easier
Camera fails/breaks Ask college for help and get another camera
Can’t film in area Get permission or film somewhere else
Accidently delete footage/audio Make back ups for them so if you do lose them
you can use the backups
Editing software crashes Constantly save all the time so if it does crash
you have your previously saved
Screen recording fails Find an unofficial one you can use for your
laptop that isn’t very known so you can avoid
getting a black screen
6. Equipment
To record my footage with I will use my phone as it’s a lot less hassle and
it’s easily portable. I chose my phone because in editing I’m going to add a
vhs effect on the footage and I wanted to make it more authentic. If it was
recorded by an actual camera it would look out of place.
During my interview I would use lavalier microphones plugged into phones,
it’s a lot easier to use them and transferring the audio files around is a lot
less hassle. It’s simple but effective. The audio on the microphones are
clear and they’re a lot easier to carry around.

9. Locations (Part 1)
Most of the shots for the small shots during the voice over will be inside my
house as they’ll just be small shots mostly focusing on objects that are
related to what I'm talking about. Inside lighting is more effective to use as
you can easily control how much light is let through and change the colours
of it too. Most of the shots will be in my room as I can easily move things
around and make the perfect setting. The shots will me mostly focusing on
objects so you wouldn’t see most of the location.
10. Locations (Part 2)
Some of the shots that I’ll use will be outside and relation to the topic I’m talking
about in the voice over, it would be more difficult to shoot as there’s people
walking around and might not even want to be in the video. I would have to pick
a time when there’s not many people out so I can easily do different shots of
different places outside. Outside locations are also more difficult because I can’t
control the sunlight so I have to be more careful, however I can control it slightly
during editing, but this can also make the lighting feel less natural and more
tacky.
11. Locations (Part 3)
For the interview I would film at my grandma’s house as her house has a lot of
space in it and her furniture is expensive and fits well into the theme of my
documentary. The lighting in her house is mostly sunlight which is risky
because it can either be really good and you can see the face and the
surroundings clearly or the light can be reflected too much to the point it
becomes too bright and you can’t see anything.
12. Facilities
I will edit my video with Cute Cut Pro on my iphone as it makes everything more simple
and I know how to use it well. Since documentaries have easy cuts and not that much of
detailed editing it’ll be easier to use something I’m very familiar with rather than
something that I don’t really know how to use. I remember using Cute Cut Pro for my
previous projects: my music video and my demo game level, it worked great and it was
really easy to use. For the vhs effect I have an app called RAD VHS Camcorder that
does this however I did have to pay £4.99 for it which is a shame but it works really well
and I can control the filter and how intense I want the effects to be.
13. Props/Costume/Consumables
One of the props that I used is a prop realistic gun which I got from Amazon. It cost me £7.99.
I wanted to record the gun as background video for the voice over. The gun will relate to the
thing I’m talking about in the voice over and I will use gun for the outro of the documentary when
Maurizio gets shot. This will make a dramatic ending to the documentary and grab the audience
to see what happened next.
Another prop I will use is fake blood, I got the fake blood from the Halloween section in Asda.
I’ll use the fake blood by making it drip on a table as someone is bleeding. One of the shots I’m
planning to use is having the prop gun on the table and then having drops of blood drip on the
gun, it makes the shot look more interesting and more eerie as the documentary ends in a
murder.
