believe it. For there must also be factions

13. The Lamb of God
For Christ our Passover also
has been sacrificed.
1 Corinthians 5:7 13
14. Jesus is no doubt the Lamb
Hebrews 7:27 says, “He sacrificed for sins, once for all,
when he offered himself”, and Hebrews 9:28, ”Christ was
sacrificed to take away the sins of many people.” John the
Baptizer said, ”Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away
the sin of the world.” Peter, in 1 Peter 1:19 says, ”You were
redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb
without blemish or spot.” In the book of Revelation twenty
or more times it refers to Christ as the Lamb. Revelation
5:6 says, “Then I saw a lamb, looking as if it had been slain,
standing in the center of the throne…”. Revelation 12:11 –
”They overcame by the blood of the Lamb…”

Now you shall eat it in this manner:

it is the LORD’S Passover.

22. Judgment and Grace
For I will go through the land of Egypt on that
night, and will strike down all the firstborn in
the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and
against all the gods of Egypt I will execute
judgments—I am the LORD. The blood shall
be a sign for you on the houses where you

LORD; throughout your generations you
are to celebrate it as a permanent
ordinance.

And when your children say to you, ‘What
does this rite mean to you?’ you shall say, ‘It

Mark 14:12–16 (NASB95)
12 On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was
being sacrificed, His disciples said to Him, “Where do You want us to go
and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 13 And He sent two of His
disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you
carrying a pitcher of water; follow him; 14 and wherever he enters, say
to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My guest
room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 15 “And he
himself will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; prepare
for us there.” 16 The disciples went out and came to the city, and found
it just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.

36. Foot washing
John 13:3–20 (NASB95)
3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going
back to God, 4 got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. 5 Then He poured
water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 So
He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do
not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.” 8 Peter said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him,
“If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” 9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my
hands and my head.” 10 Jesus said to him, “He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you
are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, “Not all of you are
clean.” 12 So when He had washed their feet, and taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do
you know what I have done to you? 13 “You call Me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. 14 “If I then, the Lord
and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 “For I gave you an example that you also
should do as I did to you. 16 “Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater
than the one who sent him. 17 “If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them. 18 “I do not speak of all of you. I
know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL
AGAINST ME.’ 19 “From now on I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that when it does occur, you may believe that I
am He. 20 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him
who sent Me.”

37. The Betrayal
Matthew 26:21–25 (NASB95)
21 As they were eating, He said, “Truly I say to you that
one of you will betray Me.” 22 Being deeply grieved, they
each one began to say to Him, “Surely not I, Lord?” 23 And
He answered, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the
bowl is the one who will betray Me. 24 “The Son of Man is
to go, just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by
whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been
good for that man if he had not been born.” 25 And Judas,
who was betraying Him, said, “Surely it is not I, Rabbi?”
Jesus said to him, “You have said it yourself.”

Matthew 26:21–25
38. The Supper
And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this
Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall
never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17
And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, “Take
this and share it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, I will not
drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of
God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and given
thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body
which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in
the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying,
“This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My

42. The Seriousness of Communion
Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the
cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be
guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But a
man must examine himself, and in so doing he is
to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he
who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to
himself if he does not judge the body rightly.
1 Corinthians 11:27–29 42
44. Severe
How much severer punishment do you
think he will deserve who has trampled
under foot the Son of God, and has
regarded as unclean the blood of the
covenant by which he was sanctified, and
has insulted the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 10:29 44
45. Judgement
For this reason many among
you are weak and sick, and a
number sleep.
1 Corinthians 11:30 45
47. We need this
But if we judged ourselves rightly, we
would not be judged. But when we are
judged, we are disciplined by the Lord
so that we will not be condemned
along with the world.
1 Corinthians 11:31–32 47
48. Judging ourselves is a discipline
Test yourselves to see if you are in the
faith; examine yourselves! Or do you
not recognize this about yourselves,
that Jesus Christ is in you—unless
indeed you fail the test?

He was betrayed took bread; and when
He had given thanks, He broke it and

53. The bread his body
For communion Jesus did not identify as the lamb
perhaps too close to the old covenant. He chose
instead the bread to symbolize unity.
1 Corinthians 10:16–17…Is not the cup of blessing
which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not
the bread which we break a sharing in the body of
Christ? Since there is one bread, we who are many
are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.

55. The Cup
In the same way He took the cup also after
supper, saying, “This cup is the new
covenant in My blood; do this, as often as
you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

56. The Cup of the New Covenant
Jeremiah 31:31–34 (NASB95)
31 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 32 not like the
covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to
bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I
was a husband to them,” declares the LORD. 33 “But this is the covenant which I
will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the LORD, “I will
put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God,
and they shall be My people. 34 “They will not teach again, each man his
neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all
know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the LORD,
“for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
