2. FROM THE
PRINCIPAL’S DESK
At Lotus Valley International School, Noida, we believe that there is no substitute for
‘Education Through Action’ and that exploring people, places, cultures, economic
opportunities, and technological advancements through travel, complements and
completes the educational experience. This philosophy matches our endeavor to create
responsible and dynamic global leaders and global citizens by bringing the knowledge
of the world to the classroom as well as encouraging students to go out into the world.
These two methods are essential to create empathy, understanding and International
collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to France and Spain. We
chose this program for its focus on exposing students to the rich culture and history
of two of Europe’s most-sought after destinations, France and Spain. To augment the
broader program, we selected the Young Authors Program, which ensured students’
engagement and experience. This Student Travel Chronicle (Photo book) is an outcome
of this collaborative and exploratory module. It captures the entire journey in students’
own words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from the intense, seven-
day interaction with the world’s most successful democratic nations.
I would also like to recognize the efforts of EdTerra Edventures; a Truly Educational
School Trips company that is well aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals
and developmental needs of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff,
especially their on-journey educator, the Journey Mentor and Visa Assistance Services.
Their professionalism made the journey effortless, safe and enriching for each one of us.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the students, who participated and engaged with
the program enthusiastically. I hope that each parent may feel proud of this highly
demonstrable publication that will keep reminding their daughters of their achievement
and capabilities, lifelong.
With best wishes,
Dr. Ruchi Seth
Principal

3. LETTER FROM EDTERRA
TM
A journey to foreign soil is always replete with learning and excitement for any young and
inquisitive mind. When the destinations are as rich as Spain and France, one can only imagine
the myriad ways in which Indian students may absorb and construct learning out of the many
differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of these great nations vis-à-vis our
own.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge through a
meaningful encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement or restricting
their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program Development Team
(PDT), which is comprised of both Indian and international experts. The PDT carefully designs
culturally neutral tools that enable students to meaningfully observe, record and articulate their
impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that encourages teamwork, meaningful
discussions, recording observations through digital media and finally synthesizing all this into a
media product that showcases the ideas and learning of the students.
This publication, France & Spain, is one such media product that captures the eight day journey
of learning of the gifted students of Lotus Valley International School, Noida, to Paris, Madrid,
Zaragoza and Barcelona, in images and words. This beautiful book serves as a window into two of
the most beautiful countries of Europe – France and Spain, for those students, peers and parents
who could not be a part of the journey. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the
students, credit for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Lotus Valley International School, Noida, for their
efforts and support which made this journey of discovery possible, with a special mention to the
Principal, Dr. Ruchi Seth, for guiding us throughout the process of finalizing our journey plans and
undertaking the journey as well. EdTerra would also like to thank the accompanying teachers,
for their sense of adventure and dynamism that the French call joie de vivre. Their energy made
our jobs easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We
encourage you to read on and re-live the learning and adventures of these students through the
words and photographs that follow.
Sincerely,
Christine Massey
Senior Manager, Program Development Team

Beginning with Paris,‘the City of Light’, this term
doesnotjustrefertoelectricityandthebeautifully
illuminated city, but also the bright minds that
did the impossible, possible. This modern city
has all the facilities a person can dream about.
From spectacular infrastructure to breathtaking
sights, Paris is one of the best places to spend a
holiday. It has rightfully reserved its place as the
most visited city on Earth. The Louvre Museum,
one of the most famous and largest museums
in the world, houses the world’s most famous
painting, the Mona Lisa. The Eiffel Tower, which
was the tallest building in the world when built in
1889, is considered as the beacon of Paris.
The city of Paris overall includes world class
museums and buildings showcasing both the
city’s past and present, including the Notre-
Dame Cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe which
attracts an international audience. We enjoyed
sitting next by the window of our big coach and
observing this beautiful city.
After all the sightseeig in Paris, we flew to Spain
and enjoyed exploring the capital city of Spain.
Madrid, one of the best cities in Europe, was an
amazing experience. We got to know a lot about
the country’s history, culture and traditions,
which were limitless. The main structures in
Madrid that we visited included the Santiago
Bernabeu Stadium and the Royal Palace. They
were marvellous and unforgettable.The Santiago
Bernabeu Stadium, on one hand, showed us the
history of the most popular game in the world,
quite obviously football. We learnt how the
‘Real Madrid’ originated and slowly developed
into the best football club in the world. On the
other hand, the Royal Palace showcased the
royal history of Madrid; we learnt about the
royal family of Spain, and we got to explore one
of the finest palaces in the world as well. This
experience was truely unforgettable.
After Madrid, we embarked on a long drive to
Barcelona, via Zaragoza. The drive was long and
fun. We entered the autonomous community of
Aragon and we were amazed by what we saw.
Zaragoza lies by the Ebro River. Later on, we
went to the Lady of the Pillar which is the second
most visited pilgrimage destination in Madrid.
Thousands of pilgrims come every year to kiss
the small statue of ‘Our Lady’. The church had
priceless artefacts which were really beautiful.
Moving on to Barcelona, the City of Gaudi is
not only famous for football fans but also for
people who like adventure and thrill. Our visit
to the Camp Nou Stadium enthralled all the
football lovers among us. Everybody enjoyed
the visit a lot. We enjoyed touring the spots of
interest in Barcelona, especially the La Sagrada
Famillia which is a church that has been under
construction from 1882.We had an enjoyable trip
and learnt a lot.We had an awesome experience
and would like to go on other trips with the same
friends.

As soon as we reached Paris, we were awed by
the beauty of the ‘City of Light’ and love. It is a
very interesting city that is highly fashionable
and has a lot to offer to tourists and art lovers.
Slowly and gradually as we were exploring the
city, we were left speechless with its romantic
style of apartments, the royalty of the Arc De
Triomphe, the oceanic depth of knowledge at the
Louvre Museum and we were overwhelmed by
the lovely view from the spectacular Eiffel Tower.
Isn’t it ironic that the hard exterior of the Eiffel
Tower successfully made a soft corner for itself
in our hearts?
Well, Paris had a kind of magic in its air which
entered our souls, making us crave to learn about
its culture. Standing before the Eiffel Tower was
a dream come true for us. The view was simply
breathtaking and we were awestruck by the
beauty of it. Visiting the Louvre Museum was
an “out of the world” experience for us. We saw
many famous paintings that were simply jaw-
dropping. Our experience at Disneyland was a
blend of fun, patience and a lot of joyfulness with
all our friends. We enjoyed all the rides and the
characters we saw on our way. It was a magical
experience interacting,attending and witnessing
the flabbergasting Disney characters and story-
telling rides, and dining at the restaurants was so
lovely and mesmerizing. Clicking group pictures
in front of the Disney Castle is a memory we will
cherish forever.
We will truly cherish the moments we spent at
Champs – Elysees and Musee du Louvre.
Paris is a superb destination that no one should
miss an opportunity to visit. It offers the best of
food, culture, art and fashion. EdTerra fulfilled
our dream of seeing this amazing city.

A TOURIST’S DELIGHT
Written and Photographed by: Atulya, Shreyansh and Tunav
We are going to talk about one of the world’s
most famous and visited cities, Paris. We went
to three major places in Paris. The sheer beauty
of these places left us dumbfounded. Firstly, the
Eiffel Tower was the main attraction for us in
this beautiful city. It had three floors, amongst
which the second level had an amazing view
of the landscape of the city. Even the Louvre
Museum was visible from the second floor. The
breathtaking views were amazing and a sight we
will never forget. Unfortunately, we could not go
to the third floor, but the magnificent view from
both the first and second floors made up for it.
No wonder the Eiffel Tower is an architectural
delight.
The Louvre Museum that we visited on the
second day was amazing. In spite of not being
big fans of art,it was still a wonderful experience
and a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity to visit an
amazing museum like this. The art and sculpture
in the place was simply fascinating, especially
the art on the ceiling and the painting of Da
Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
‘Bienvenue Disneyland’, were the first words we
heard in Disneyland, which literally translates
to ‘Welcome to Disneyland’. Once we entered
through the gates of this much-awaited magical
world, we knew that we had entered the happiest
place on Earth. Going to one of Disney’s magical
theme parks is always an amazing experience.
Seeing our favourite Disney characters right
before us, getting clicked with them and the
amazing rides added to our excitement. We
made sure we went on all the rides, especially
roller coasters like ‘Space Mountain’, which was
mind-blowing. Disneyland was the highlight of
our journey and the visit was thoroughly enjoyed
by all of us.We created memories for a lifetime.

32. MADRID

Hello friends. Our chapter is about Madrid and
we would like to share our experiences with you.
Madrid is the third largest city in the European
Union and is located on the banks of the river
Manzanares. The symbol of Madrid is a bear
eating from a fruit tree which is called‘El OsoY El
Madrono’. Originally, Madrid was called Mayred
which means ‘rich in water’. The crowds on the
streets and the lights on the billboards were
simply delightful.Madrid was very interesting for
us because it is a city which is the home ground
of our favourite football club, the Real Madrid
C.F. We were very excited about it because we
would be covering a city that has a lot of history
related to football. We also had a great time here
because the hotel, the buses, and the restaurants,
everything was good.
Madrid happened to be the best part of our trip
and it was truly enjoyable. The best thing about
Madrid is the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium of Real
Madrid Club football. We learnt a lot about the
stadium and its history and different players. It
was a fascinating experience. The second most
enjoyable aspect of our visit to Madrid was the
Royal Palace. It is the largest palace in Western
Europe and the official residence of the Spanish
Royal family. The Royal family belonged to the
house of Bourbon. It was built in the sixteenth
century and has more than three thousand rooms.
All of us were very enthusiastic about exploring
the palace. We learned about different variations
and types of arts, paintings and heritage. We must
say the palace and the stadium were the two most
enjoyable parts of this trip.
The visit to Madrid was worth all the excitement
and anxiousness that we had before arriving
in the city. It was a great learning experience
for us. We look forward to coming back to this
amazing place.

40. BARCELONA

Barcelona, the city of football, is a spectacular
place to visit. A person who visits Barcelona
will get addicted to the place and it was a really
nice experience travelling with EdTerra and our
lovely teachers. They made our journey much
better than we thought. They kept us happy
throughout the journey. The people of Barcelona
were also very friendly and polite.
It was a really long journey to Barcelona from
Madrid;we halted midway at Zaragoza. As the bus
was moving towards its destination, we enjoyed
the scenic views from the bus windows. It was
fantastic. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience
which we really enjoyed. In Barcelona, our first
destination was the Holy Family Church, which
is locally known as the Sagrada Familia. Our
guide told us many interesting facts about the
construction and history of this church. On the
central doorway of the church is depicted the
nativity scene with Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
beneath the star of Bethlehem. It is one of the
most extraordinary churches, and the largest
church we had ever seen. The construction of
the church was started in 1882, by Antoni Gaudi,
and even after so many years, it is still under
construction. It is said that the construction of the
church will be completed by 2026.We learnt a lot
about the place. Many generations have seen the
construction of this great church. It was the most
fascinating building we had ever seen.
Next on our list was Barrio Gothico. It is located
at the center of the city of Barcelona and has
beautiful buildings that date back to the Roman
era. The cable car ride to Montjuic Hill gave
us stunning views of the city of Barcelona and
the sea as well. The students spent time at
Poble Espanyol, a traditional Spanish village.
It includes over 100 buildings, an open-air
museum and art and crafts shopping. We clicked
really good pictures over there. Even the photo
stop at Parque Guell was really very beautiful.
It is also a site built by Antoni Gaudi. People
come from different places to visit this place. It
is a beautiful landscaped park decorated with
playful modernist mosaics.
A highlight of our visit to Barcelona was the
heart-stopping Flamenco dance performance
that we watched! It was the best part of our
journey. We really liked the fact that they served
us Indian food.
We still miss this trip and want to go back again
with our friends and teachers. We are really
thankful to EdTerra for providing us with Indian
food in Europe as well. We would never miss a
chance to go on a trip with EdTerra again.
