4. Urban
Cycling
If you are an experienced city dweller who likes to
have as much freedom as possible, you may have
noticed that this is not really workable when you are
having to rely on public transport!
However, investing in a bike which is specifically
designed for the urban sphere can make a significant
amount of difference to your life and allows you to use
your own time more effectively. There are some key
considerations to make when you are thinking of
buying your own bike:
• Your bike needs to be reliable
• It must be easy to manoeuvre in low & medium
speeds due to the city environment
• It needs to be lightweight & easy to carry
• It must be strong enough to cope with potholes,
sadly they are all too common in our cities!
• Last but certainly not least, it must have effective
brakes!

6. Road Cycling
If you are looking for speed, style and efficiency, then a road bike, or racers
as they are often know, is most certainly for you! They are designed to take
you as far as your legs can take you in as little of time as possible.
While they may look a lot like the traditional racing bikes that your
grandparents rode in the past, don’t be taken in by their appearance! There is
absolutely nothing traditional about that technology that graces these bikes,
find out more below:
• Road bikes frames are usually made from aluminium or carbon, with
steel and titanium used for more niche models. If you are looking for
something particularly lightweight, you should opt for a carbon road bike
• Due to the road bikes being designed for tarmac, the wheels do not have
to be as robust as other bikes, such as mountain bikes. You can expect
the wheels to be a lot skinner
• Aerodynamics are imperative with road bikes and you therefore find that
that the rims on the wheels are slightly deeper
• Road bikes usually have dropped handlebars that can be adjusted to a
number of different positions. The tops, with your hands positioned on
either side, are ideal for going up steep, never-ending hills.
7. Road Cyclist
There is something special about road cycling that continues to enchant,
surprise & challenge cyclists of any level. However there are some
features of road bikes that can make your ride even more enjoyable
Look for a relaxed seat tube for that extra comfort
when pedalling
Make sure that you are
getting those marginal
gains with carbon fibre
wheels with deep selection
rims. They will provide you
with aerodynamic weight
advantages
Carbon fibre road bikes
offer the most refined &
responsive ride for your
speed & pleasure

riding my bicycle”

Theory of Relativity
9. A Hybrid
If you plan to use your bike to commute to work, with a bit of recreational
riding thrown in at the weekend, then a hybrid bike is the way forward.
They are also ideal if you do not have much of a budget to play with and
are most certainly an affordable option for riders only just getting into
cycling. An added bonus is that they are comfortable handling a variety of
different terrains and conditions.
If you are wondering what I am talking about then don’t worry! A hybrid is
a cross between a road bike and a mountain bike, essentially taking the
best of both and combining them into one.
10. A Little Bit of
This, A Little
Bit of ThatThe frame will usually have a relatively relaxed
geometry, meaning a short top tube and tall
head tube to offer a relaxed and upright riding
position that will not strain your neck and
shoulders
A common feature is to
have flat handle bars as
opposed to drop handlebar.
Again, this offers an upright
riding position, which is
ideal for the less
experienced cyclist
Hybrids tend to have thicker wheels than road bikes, offering improved comfort and
protection from rough or uneven surfaces. There is also the added bonus that they
will offer a greater level of grip on wet surfaces
11. Thank You.
Whatever bicycle you decide is the most
suitable for your needs, I hope that you
are able to experience the joys of cycling
and find it to be as rewarding as possible!
