23. Women who worked as artists were usually painters´ daughters, so they taught them the profession, but normally they were not admitted in Art Schools or Academies, so they had to paint without living models. So it was difficult for them to paint historical, mythical or religious compositions .

24. As a result of this, they focused on portraits . And they understood self- portraits, as a way to revindicate their value as artists.
