Goals of these early conferences was to provide an annual opportunity to
network and learn from each other to implement and develop EPI programs
across province.

First Annual OWG province-wide conference
Focus of annual conference is to provide education and training to the new
EPI workforce at over 30 new EPI programs
“Program Policy Framework for Early Intervention in Psychosis”1
developed to guide program implementation across the province
2013
Education and Outreach Think Tank
The purpose was to provide EPI programs an opportunity to explore the
Ontario EPI standard on education and outreach. Results of Survey 1 had
emphasized programs were struggling in this area and wanted new strategies
to make improvements.
2013-2015MATURATION OF EPION
2014
Metabolic and Physical Health Monitoring Think Tank
The goal was to provide representatives from EPI programs an opportunity
to explore the results from Survey 1 related to best practices in monitoring of
clients’ physical health.
Psychological Therapies Webinar
The day-long seminar featured presentations about Cognitive Behaviour
Therapy (CBT) for psychosis, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) for psychosis
and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) as applied to psychosis.
Second province-wide survey
The survey asked about current strategies, impact on quality of care, additional
needs and successful practices for each of the four supportive practices.
Family Worker Think Tank
An opportunity to explore challenges and strengths in working with and
supporting families, the barriers facing programs in meeting Ontario EPI
standards and possible options going forward were addressed.
2015
Celebration of 10 years of EPI program funding in Ontario
We will bring past speakers, Chairs of OWG/EPION, international EPI
leaders with members of EPION to celebrate in October 2015. Keynote
speakers include: Ashok Malla, Patrick McGorry, and David Shiers, plus
over 75 other workshops and presentations.
2012
OWG changes name to EPION: Early Psychosis Intervention Ontario Network)
Community of Interest (CoI) formed
CoI funding was initially supported by EENet for 2 years. The
focus was to engage other provincial sectors/initiatives (e.g., the education
sector) with EPION.
EPION Conference: Mobilizing the Standards and Bringing Them to Life
First province-wide survey3
This survey examined EPI program delivery in relation to recently released
provincial EPI Program Standards, and variations based on geographic context.

Ontario Working Group (OWG) is established under direction of
Mr. John Trainor and a small group of clinicians working in psychotic disorders
with youth. Goal of OWG was to partner with government to improve the
early detection and treatment of psychotic illness in Ontario.

Annualized funding for EPION announced via the Ministry of Health, with
formal partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
Ontario EPI Standards Released2
Standards Implementation Steering Committee (SISC) formed
SISC was formed with the mandata to work collaboratively to develop an
implementation, monitoring and evaluation plan for the EPI program standards.
EPION is a province-wide volunteer network of service providers, persons with lived experience, families, and over 50 Early
Psychosis Intervention programs across Ontario, Canada. The network facilitates collaboration, training and quality improvement,
and was granted annualized funding by the Ministry of Health in 2011.
Our current working groups include: Communities of Interest; Public Education & Outreach; Metabolic Monitoring; Research;
Conference Planning; and the Standards Implementation Steering Committee.
