Lesson Flow Level 3 (3A, 3B, 3C) Mastery Passage Warm up 5 minutes Greetings & Breathing Exercises, then ● The Sound Focus should have been chosen after referencing your HB PLANNER ● Review essential tongue positions for the chosen sound focus, *mouth positions are supplementary* ● Have students do essential tongue exercises for the corresponding sounds Sound Focus 1 20 minutes Play the chosen Sound Focus (SF) and display it on screen from among pages 26-62 Top phrases (TP) then bottom phrases (BP) (no need to complete them all, stay within time limits. Note the last phrase completed in shinkyouho notes: ex. BP #1- 10) * input activity completed on DB sheets 20 minutes Play audio, sentence by sentence, and have students recite Match MP recitation to SF as much as possible Pages 81-88 *input activity completed on DB sheets Speech Samples 5 minutes Practice 2-3 Speech Samples: Play audio, sentence by sentence, and have students recite Pages 65-67 *no need to input this activity on your DB sheet

Level 3 Goals (Sublevels are about 20 lessons each on average): 3A - One Phrase = One Breath; focus on accented sounds (4-5 words) 3B - Mastery Passages 81-88: Read each sentence smoothly (8-10 words) 3C - Mastery Passages 81-88: Read the whole passage smoothly without struggling. (Speed is not important here)

Focus ● Highlight focal points so the students know what they studied in the session. ● Encourage students to identify the accented sounds ● Minimize time that any one student is silent. ● Ensure each student speaks as much as possible (again and again until you/ they can point out the mistake) ● Exact mouth shapes are not so important if we can get them to say the phrase or sentence naturally ● Focus on accuracy over fluency. If a student is saying the phrase too quickly and making a lot of mistakes, get them to slow down.

Lesson Flow Level 4 Mastery Passage Warm up 10- 15 minutes Additional Conversations 83-95: Natural Speed Speeches Speech Sample 4 20-25 minutes Have students recite Speech Samples from among pages 65-67 (Natural Speed) Remaining time Play faster versions of audio tracks. Have students recite passages from among pages 81-88 at natural speed

Level 4 Goals ● Students will be able to properly pronounce and use Schwa, /i/, R/L-related, B/V-related, and S/Th-related sounds using appropriate intonation. ● Students will be able to express the meaning of the text instead of reading mechanically. ● Proficiency will be consistent ● Students will be able to produce a Speech Sample that passes the FIT test.
