July 2010, 11,360 teens in program)
• Mostly Hispanic females pregnant or parenting teens
• Some males
• Live in urban and rural areas
• Live with guardian/or alone
• If over 18 years old some live w/boyfriends

Vision: To lead an integrated network of
community partners that support, protects, and
strengthen children and families.
Mission: To promote a system of best practice
in partnership with the community, committed
to prevention and early intervention, that
ensures child safety, permanence and stability,
family well-being that is proactive, strategic,
outcomes based and fiscally responsible to the
children and families served.

 Satisfactory progress in school
 Graduate before twenty

Nonparticipants in Cal-Learn Have
a Right to be Deferred or Exempt
 Deferred- Participant has a documented “special
need” which affects her ability to meet program
requirements for no more than ninety days.

which affects her ability to meet program requirements
for more than ninety days.
Significance of the agency in term of social
justice, social work, and human rights
 Social Justice: Social workers challenge social injustice by helping student
talk to school administrators ands counselors
 Service: Social worker’s primary goal is to help people in need and to
address social problems - to help student with resources such as parenting
classes for teens.
 Importance of Human relationship: Social workers recognize the central
importance of human relationships - by understanding all clients are different
but equal.
 Dignity and worth: Social workers respect the dignity and worth of person -
by social workers doing this, they develop a trusting relationship with clients.
 Integrity: Social workers behave in a trust worthy manner - when social
workers say they will help students, they follow through
 Competence: Social workers practice within their areas of competence and
develop and enhance their professional expertise while working with teens.
