I know all of us have days when we are
going to get home late or have no idea
what time our loved ones are coming
home.
So, wouldn't it be great if we could have
a meal ready to sit on the table no matter
what time everyone arrived home for
dinner?
Well, you could just hire a cook (not an
option for me) - Or, you can bring out
that slow cooker and prepare a delicious
turkey meal.
Yes, I know turkey is a standby for
holiday meals, but it is also a healthy,
low fat food for all year round.
With that said, I decided to share with
you 5 of my favorite slow cooker turkey
recipes so you can surprise your family
with a new turkey dinner tonight.
2. Slow Cooker Herb Turkey
Breast
Ingredients:
Turkey Breast – 1 (4 -5 lbs,) fresh or
thawed
Butter or Margarine – 2 Tbsp.
Garden Vegetable-Flavored Whipped
Cream Cheese - 1/4 c.
Soy Sauce - 1 Tbsp.
Dry Basil Leaves - 1/2 Tsp.
Rubbed Sage - 1/2 Tsp.
Dry Thyme Leaves - 1/2 Tsp.
Ground Black Pepper - 1/4 Tsp.
Garlic Powder - 1/4 Tsp.
Cooking Directions:
1. First, place turkey in slow cooker.
2. Combine remaining ingredients well
and brush over turkey.
3. Place lid on slow cooker and cook 10
-12 hours on LOW or 5 – 6 hours on
HIGH.
3. Slow Cooker Turkey Stew
Ingredients:
Stewed Tomatoes - 1 (28 oz.can)
White Wine - 1/4 c.
Chicken Bouillon - 6 cubes
Dried Onion Flakes - 1/4 c.
Lemon Pepper Seasoning - 1/2 Tsp.
Dried Italian Seasoning - 1/2 Tsp.
Garlic Powder - 1/4 Tsp.
Dried Thyme Leaves - 1/4 Tsp.
Turkey Thigh Meat - 3 lbs.(cubed)
Cooking Directions:
1. Pour stewed tomatoes and white wine
into slow cooker,
2. Stir in bouillon cubes, onion flakes,
lemon pepper, Italian seasoning, garlic p
owder, and thyme.
3. Add cubed turkey.
4. Place cover on slow cooker, cook on
LOW 8 - 10 hours or until turkey meat
falls apart easily.
4. Italian Turkey Sandwiches
Ingredients:
Turkey Breast - 1 (5 1/2 lb) bone-in,
skinless
Green Pepper - 1/2 c.(chopped)
Onion - 1 medium (chopped)
Chili Sauce - 1/4 c.
White Vinegar - 3 Tbsp.
Dried Oregano or Italian Seasoning - 2
Tbsp.
Beef Bouillon Cubes - 4 Tsp.
Kaiser or Hard Rolls - 11 (split)
Cooking Directions:
1. Cut turkey breast in half along the
bone.
2. Coat 5-qt.slow cooker with nonstick
cooking spray.
3. Add turkey breast, chopped green
pepper and chopped onions to slow
cooker.
4. In a bowl, combine chili sauce, white
vinegar, oregano or seasoning and
bouillon granules.
5. Pour mixture over turkey and
vegetables in slow cooker.
6. Place cover on slow cooker and cook
5 -6 hours on LOW or until meat juices
run clear and vegetables are tender.
7. Remove turkey, reserving cooking
liquid.
8. Using two forks, shred turkey and
return to cooking juices.
9. Spoon 1/2 c. onto each roll.
5. Slow Cooker Turkey W/
Bacon
Ingredients:
Bacon - 5 slices
Turkey Breast - 1 (5 1/2 lb) bone-in,
skinless
Garlic Pepper - 1/2 Tsp.
Turkey Gravy - 1 (10.5 oz.can)
All-Purpose Flour - 2 Tbsp.
Worcestershire Sauce - 1 Tbsp.
Dried Sage - 1 Tsp.
Cooking Directions:
1. Place bacon slices in skillet over
medium-high heat.
2. Cook bacon unt evenly brown, then
drain and crumble.
3. Spray slow cooker with cooking
spray.
4. Add turkey to slow cooker and season
with garlic pepper.
5. Put crumbled bacon, turkey gravy,
flour, Worcestershire sauce and sage in a
bowl and combine well.
6. Pour mixture over turkey in slow
cooker.
7. Place cover on slow cooker and cook
8 hours on LOW.
6. Slow Cooker Turkey Chili
Ingredients:
Vegetable Oil - 1 Tbsp.
Ground Turkey - 1 lb.
Low Sodium Tomato Soup - 2 (10.75 oz.
cans)
Kidney Beans - 2 (15 oz. cans, drained)
Black Beans - 1 (15 oz. can, drained)
Onion - 1/2 medium (chopped)
Chili Powder - 2 Tbsp.
Red Pepper Flakes - 1 Tsp.
Garlic Powder - 1/2 Tbsp.
Ground Cumin - 1/2 Tbsp.
Ground Black Pepper - 1 pinch
Ground Allspice - 1 pinch
Salt to taste
Cooking Directions:
1. Pour oil in a skillet and heat over
medium heat.
2. Add turkey to skillet, cook until
evenly brown, drain thoroughly.
3. Coat inside of slow cooker with
cooking spray.
4. Mix in cooked turkey and remaining
ingredients.
5. Place lid on slow cooker and cook 8
hours on LOW or 4 hours on HIGH.
