RMC

2.  READY MIX CONCRETE (RMC) is a ready-to-
use material, with predetermined mixture of
cement, sand, aggregates and water.
 RMC is a type of concrete manufactured in
factory according to a set recipe or as per
specification of the customer, at centrally
located batching plant.

3.  RMC is delivered to a worksite, often in truck
mixers.
 Truck mixers are capable of mixing the
ingredients of the concrete en route or just
before delivery of the batch.

4.  The second option available to deliver the
mixed concrete to the site is an agitator
truck.
 Agitator trucks receive ready-mixed concrete
from a nearby plant and deliver it to truck-
accessible job sites.

5.  The key difference between this delivery type
and mixer trucks is that agitator trucks do
not mix water with the concrete en route.
 The way the concrete leaves the plant is how
it will be when it's poured into position.

7.  Speedy construction.
 Lower labour and supervisory costs.
 Multi- transportation of raw materials is
eliminated.
 Controlled W/C ratio.
 Use in congested sites or in highway
construction where there is little space for a
mixing plant and aggregate stocking.
 Minimization of cement wastage.

8.  The materials are batched at a central plant, and
the mixing begins at that plant, so the travelling
time from the plant to the site is critical over
longer distances.
 Generation of additional road traffic.
Furthermore, access roads and site access have
to be able to carry the greater weight of the
ready-mix truck plus load. (Green concrete is
approx. 2.5 tonne per m³.)
 Concrete's limited timespan between mixing and
going-off means that ready-mix should be
placed within 210 minutes of batching at the
plant.
