We achieved optical cloaking system using two types of plane
symmetric optics: mirror and dihedral corner reflector array.
Features:
View independence, broadband spectrum, and a large size cloaking.
Limitations:
Color shift eﬀect, luminance shift eﬀect.

Q. Is this the only configuration to achieve cloaking by mirrors and DCRA?
- No. If the virtual view position overlay to the original view position, the cloaking can be
achieved.

Each type of sensor and technique has unique strengths and weaknesses. Debreczeni examines these techniques and their strengths and weaknesses, and shows how multiple techniques using different sensor types can be fused to enable robust distance estimation for a specific automated driving application.

Therefore, VR games should be attractive for players, as well as for bystanders. Current VR systems are still mostly focused on enhancing the experience of the head-mounted display (HMD) users; thus, bystanders without an HMD cannot enjoy the experience together with the HMD users. We propose the "ReverseCAVE": a proof-of-concept prototype for public VR visualization using CAVE-based projection with translucent screens for bystanders toward a shareable VR experience. The screens surround the HMD user and the VR environment is projected onto the screens. This enables the bystanders to see the HMD user and the VR environment simultaneously. We designed and implemented the ReverseCAVE, and evaluated it in terms of the degree of attention, attractiveness, enjoyment, and shareability, assuming that it is used in a public space. Thus, we can make the VR world more accessible and enhance the public VR experience of the bystanders via the ReverseCAVE.

However, wheelchairs need to be accompanied by caregivers. As society ages and the number of care recipients increases, the burden on caregivers is expected to increase. In order to reduce the burden on caregivers, we present Telewheelchair, an electric wheelchair equipped with a remote control function and computational operation assistance function. The caregiver can remotely control the Telewheelchair by means of a head mounted display (HMD). In addition, the proposed system is equipped with a human detection system to stop the wheelchair automatically and avoid collisions. We conducted a user study on the wheelchair in four types of systems and investigated the time taken to achieve tasks. Telewheelchair will enhance geriatric mobility and improve society by combining human intelligence and machine intelligence.

We propose a telepresence system which enables us to provide care from a remote place by installing telepresence function in a wheelchair. The caregiver who drives the wheelchair can see environments around the handicapped person through the omnidirectional camera mounted on wheelchair. The caregiver wears HMD to view this image, and hold controller to control wheelchair. In order to safely operation, we employ Human-detection system by using YOLO. If person come close to the wheelchair, system stop wheelchair and display a caution on HMD. To assist operation in narrow area such like corridor, we employ environment recognition using SLAM. In future work, if a plurality of wheelchairs are connected and one operator person can assist with switching among these wheelchairs, the cost of nursing care can be reduced, and more people can receive the nursing care.

In this study, we aim to realize a protectable projection method that allows people to observe content with their eyes but not record content with camera devices. To achieve this goal, we exploit the difference between the human vision system and the camera vision system. Notably, humans cannot recognize the high-speed changes of light. We were inspired by previous work that used these properties to show on-screen invisible markers. There are several studies that aim to present imperceptible on-screen markers using high-speed projection between the afterimage effect of human eyes and shutter speeds of digital cameras. From another point of view, these techniques show specific content only to the human eye while showing different content to a camera. Thus, we can project images that can be seen by human eyes whereas cameras only capture an incomplete frame. Therefore, this means the projected light is unphotogenic.

The cameras carried in place of puppet's eyes stream live video to the HMD worn by the performer, so that performers can see the images from the puppet's eyes with their own eyes and have a visual understanding of the puppet's ambience. In conventional methods to manipulate a puppet (a hand-puppet, a string-puppet, and a rod-puppet), there is a need to practice manipulating puppets, and there is difficulty carrying out interactions with the audience. Moreover, puppeteers must be positioned exactly where the puppet is. The proposed system addresses these issues by enabling a human performer to manipulate the puppet remotely using his or her body and facial movements. We conducted several user studies with both beginners and professional puppeteers. The results show that, unlike the conventional method, the proposed system facilitates the manipulation of puppets especially for beginners. Moreover, this system allows performers to enjoy puppetry and fascinate audiences.

We call this “perspective gap.” These perspective gaps exist in many situations. To address these problems, we present “ReverseCAVE”, a system for sharing the experiences of people in VR with others (observer). As another application, it is possible to visually recognize the actual appearance of the person performing the act at the motion capture studio and the superimposed character at the same time. ReverseCAVE has four translucent screens surrounding the player. VR environment that the player is experiencing is projected onto the screens. By this, the observer can see both the physical player and the VR environment experienced by the player simultaneously. Also, in the motion capture system, when viewing the actor from the observer outside of ReverseCAVE, the character is superimposed to the actor. This makes it look as if the actor is the actual character from the observer. ReverseCAVE enhances the observers’ experience.

This paper introduces novel methods to add new material properties to a light field display, using computationally designed and fabricated pinholes. Most of the surface materials commonly used for LCDs are limited to smooth, transparent materials, such as glass or plastic. In conventional studies, a pinhole-based parallax barrier is employed in the design light field displays. We redefine these method to transform a non-transparent and non-smooth material, such as wood or stone, into a light field display.
