Agenda
4. 4
I’ve worked in about every area of Software starting with a high school
internship in 1980 working on Dr Pepper bottling reports. One of the
things I hated as an intern was when I had to look up bottler numbers
and write them on a sheet of paper.
I quickly decided that I hated doing repetitive tasks and started
automating anything that I could.
For many years I traveled as a consultant and got to see some cool
places.
I was in automated testing prior to doing RPA. I have worked with
several different RPA tools.
Today I work for UiPath – an RPA software company.

6. What is
Robotic Process
Automation
(RPA)?
Robotic Process Automation allows
anyone to configure computer
software, or a “robot” to emulate and
integrate the actions of a human
interacting within digital systems to
execute a business process.
RPA robots utilize the user interface to
capture data and manipulate
applications just like humans do.
They interpret, trigger responses, and
communicate with other systems in
order to perform a vast variety of
repetitive tasks.

Book Review Extractor
My aunt ran a bookstore and wrote book reviews for her local newspaper. I wrote an
automation that would:
• Search through the newspaper’s archive site for any occurrence of her name
• Download the referenced pages as JPEG
Email Organizer
My personal email is full of messages from stores. I wrote an automation that identifies
these senders and creates a rule to push those messages to a specific folder.
Timecard Helper
My manager expects us to track time spent with each customer. Our group wrote an
automation that pulls calendar/meetings and emails to pre-populate the timecard
system for us.

Recommendations / What I Wish I Would
Have Known
• Be diligent with your Work/Personal life balance.
• Value your skills and experience – keep adding to your toolbox. You never know when an
“old skill” will prove helpful.
• Don’t panic if you get laid off. If you take something below your skills/salary it takes a long
time to recover.
• The best computer/software/company may not last – don’t stay tied to one too long
• Keep up with your contacts - Cynthia Libby LinkedIn
• Always keep backups!
