two forms: Summer Olympics and Winter

The original games date back to 776 BC when
the ancient Greeks began to celebrate in the city
of Olympia. They were religious festivals,
cultural and sporting events held in honor of the
gods

taken up by the
French nobleman
Pierre Fredy, Baron
de Coubertin, giving
rise to the modern
Olympic Games in the
Greek capital of
Athens

were held every four
years since 1896,
except 1916, 1940
and 1944, due to the

World War. Greece
and Australia are the
only countries to have
attended all the
games

In the closing ceremony doves are released to symbolize
