SUMMARY
David is a senior geotechnical engineer with over 30 years of experience. He has worked on a wide
variety of small, medium and larger projects in the commercial, residential, infrastructure,
transportation, power distribution and mining sectors. His areas of expertise include geotechnical
engineering, construction monitoring, materials testing and project management, in the design and
construction of building foundations, earthworks, slope stabilization / retaining systems, roadways and
landfills.
David has worked in BC and Alberta, with some project involvement in the Northwest Territories. He
has professional designation in both provinces as well as the Northwest Territories. In 2006, David
successfully managed an engineering office and materials testing laboratory in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Recently, David managed large geotechnical investigation and materials testing projects for the
expansion and improvement of a series of electrical distribution systems, including substations and
transmission lines in the province of Alberta. At present, David is a report and proposal reviewer.

2. SELECTED PROJECT EXPERIENCE
SNC Lavalin – AltaLink, AB; Project manager for approximately 100 substation and transmission line
sites involving geotechnical investigations and materials testing contracts totaling several million dollars
between 2011 and 2013. The sites were located throughout Alberta.
Various building sites and subdivisions, City of Calgary, design and report review, shoring design,
materials testing reviews and letters of compliance.
Highways, AB; Functional Planning studies involving route selection feasibility analysis from a high level
overview.
Grande Cache Coal, Grande Cache, AB; Engineer of Record for berm and pond earthworks construction
for environmental protection purposes, involving field test pitting work, design and report preparation.
This was followed up by field reviews and managing the earthworks quality control (QC) compaction
testing during the construction of several earth berms.
Suncor, Fort McMurray, AB; Stream Crossing at Fee Lot 6 (May, June 2014) – site monitoring and
reporting of remedial works to mitigate erosion and reduce siltation and turbidity in fish bearing stream.
Kearl Oilsands, Imperial Oil, North Eastern Alberta; Geotechnical Site Manager for drilling and
instrumentation installation works, providing guidance and direction to my team for borehole drilling
and installation of various instruments for monitoring movements and deformations within a dyke of
the East ETA (External Tailings Area) project.
Syncrude Sulphur Storage Project, Fort McMurray, AB; Field Engineer & Construction Monitor for the
Syncrude sulphur storage project. Responsibilities included involvement in design, construction and
field monitoring for long term storage of the sulphur resource, where several prototypical scenarios
were developed and built to observe the long term performance of the sulphur by-product obtained
from tarsand processing.
Supertest Hill, Fort McMurray, AB; Field Engineer & Construction Monitor for surface erosion repairs at
Supertest Hill, just north of Fort McMurray, AB. Duties on the $1M+ Alberta Transportation project
included monitoring, evaluating, approving, measuring and documenting contractor’s installation of
various protective works such as erosion matting, gabion structures, culverts and channelized flows;
liaising with the project design engineer, the contractor and AT representatives.
Turtle Dam, Southeast Kelowna Irrigation District (SEKID), southeast of Kelowna, BC; Geotechnical
Engineer of Record for an Earth Fill Dam – dam construction material selection, evaluation and approval.
"The Brick", Shopping Center, Vernon, BC, Foundation Design Report; Engineer of Record;
Bell Communications Towers - involved in foundation design for approximately 20 cell phone towers
throughout northeast BC (north of Fort St. John, BC).
Fort McMurray area project work: Conoco Phillips - Surmont Phase 1; Suncor Firebag - Cogen Expansion;
Fort McMurray Water Reclamation Facility (FMWRF) - Project Engineer; McDonald Island Re-

Construction monitoring for the landfill construction at Pembina Area Landfill, west of Drayton Valley,

3. SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Construction monitoring: many years of site (inspection) review experience including field compaction testing,
drill hole monitoring and instrumentation installation, effectively and efficiently deal with site / field conditions,
client / contractor concerns and trouble-shoot problems, with strong communication skills provide timely, viable
solutions. Substantial experience leads to multi-level, multidimensional perspectives, approaches and overview.
Report writing: concisely convey the important information regarding site characterization that pertains to the
desired development, regarding design and constructability concerns, offering conceptual or detailed design
based on field data, site and development constraints.
Project management: administered and coordinated many scopes of work for drilling, testing and engineering
programs with typical budgets in excess of $50K, providing quality service, timely reporting, coordinating staff,
and positively communicating with client, set realistic budgets, scopes and project trends, following up on invoice
payment.
Laboratory and field testing: understand and implement the appropriate field and laboratory testing schedule
from a geotechnical engineering point of view, so as to meet the contractual / client needs during construction.
With over 30 years of geotechnical consulting and construction monitoring experience able to identify /
