The Indian Postal System was founded in
1764.
The British Raj was instituted in 1858, when
the rule of the East India Company was
transferred to the Crown.
By 1861, there were 889 post offices handling
nearly 43 million letters and over 4.5 million
newspapers annually.

was appointed in 1870 and based in
Allahabad and in 1876, British India
became the first non-founding member of
the General Postal Union

Register Postal Services
Book post has reasonable price
and wide availability. In case of
Book post flap should be kept
open. It costs Rs. 4/- upto 50
gms. Invitation, wedding cards
can be sent through Book Post.
17. Parcel post
Anything can be sent in a parcel excepting
articles whose transmission is prohibited.
It can contain single communication to the
addressee of the parcel.
If the addressee refuses to pay the charges,
the parcel will be returned to the sender from
whom the charge will not be recovered.

19. Money order
A money order is an order issued by the
Post Office for the payment of a sum
of money to the person whose name
the money order is sent through the
agency of the Post Office. A 'Payee' is the
person named in money order as the
person to whom the money is to be paid .

A service for remitting small
amount of money from one
place to another through Post
Offices.
The Indian Postal Orders are
available in all the Post Offices
across India.

Post office saving account is similar to
a savings account in a bank. It is a safe
instrument to park those funds, which you

India Post offers it’s customers the
facility of a 5-Year Recurring
Deposit (RD) Account which is
essentially a deposit scheme
allowing customers to add to their
savings by investing money which
earns interest over a fixed period
of time.

obviously became quite a hassle ( Disturbance ). The only viable
alternative is/was to have postage prepaid by the sender, and
stamps became the easiest way of proof that postage had been
paid.
