1. Tell me in no more than20 words,
what is yourFMP idea? An all-in-onebrand, which stretches its influence towards
written articles, videosandits social media platform.
Why have youdecided to makeit?
Point(Or the idea) has been in the back of my head for the
last 2 yearsof my media course. An accumulation of all the
learning from my pastprojects all summedupinto onelast
push.
Every personbelow the age of 20 has grownup aroundthe
golden age of the internet as YouTubeand otherplatforms
began tograb a footholdon the world wide web. When I was
younger, I looked upto the people who hadtheir own
channelswhere they couldpost entertainingvideosand live
off it. I donot intendto dothe samemyself, butI want to dip
my toe into the surface andunderstandwhatit takes to have
one of my own, makingvideosaboutwhat I love.
Insteadof just focusing my attentionto one area, I want to
divert someof my attentionto other areas of production
which could help boostmy brandfurther. Written articles (like
my previousproject) andsocial media advertisementswill
enhance the emotionbehindmy brand. Italso allows me to
experiment with several types of production, beingvideo,
articles andadvertisement. All in one big packagecalled;
Point.
What aboutyourproject makesit
importanttoyou? Being the last project, it summarisesmy learning. Out of every
project, I founda commontheme; being thatI lost production
time due to ineffective planningand experimentation. Know
thatthis was my weakness, I havecome into this project
knowingwhat I need to improve. The capitalisationon my
strengthswhile workingwhere I am weak is what is important
to me consideringthis project and its value to my course.
Outline someof the initial influences
on youridea/work andsome
potentialresearch targets
(remember, research is notjust a
paper basedactivity)
Influences
I see 4 main influences on my project:
Racing as a sport
Other channels/contentcreators onYouTube
2. People I watched growing up on YouTube
The current political climate we live in
Racing
I havegrown up lovingracing. Fromthe age of 3 when the
Disney Cars movie was released in 2006. Itintroducedintothe
emotionsandenergy involved.
To me, racing is not just a sport. buta fine connection
between man andmachine. Reflecting this, is a massive
influence onmy production. Beingthe primary subject I want
to cover in this project.
Other ContentCreators
In 2020 and2021 YouTubehasshiftedtowardsa more
personalisedconnectionbetween audience andcreator. From
the perspective of someonewho has been on YouTubefor 10
years, I have seen all the ages the platformhas gonethrough.
Knowingthis, I want to bring my personality into the equation.
Pointwill be thatpersonality I have, putinto video andarticle
form. The personalisationof my contentwill be one of the
areas of focus for myself. I want to constantly reflect onhow I
feel aboutthe content I recorded andwhat feelings the
audience will experience when watching/readingwhat I make.
PastYouTube
Growing up with hugely influential channelslike PewDiePie
and Jacksepticeye was my childhoodwas built watching the
early YouTubecontent. As I have already spokenabout, the
developmentandshift away from gaming topersonalisation
was what happenedto mostcreators onYouTube.
Pointbrings back that connectionbetween gaming and
emotion, as I knowhow andwhy I enjoy racing/gaming, it is
just reflecting that in the contentwhich is the difficulty.
Being myself while creating what I want to in the optimum
workingcondition which I hopewill reflect the emotionsI
want to produceon Point.
Politics
Being a male dominatedsport. Racinghas its injustices. One of
my subtle aims is to connectthe gender barrier. If notthough
a subliminal colourscheme, to specifically includingfemales to
equate for the inequality foundwithin the sport.

Research Targets
For my FMP I have two separateareas of research.
1. Primary (Audience) – Primary research will be focused
at understandingmy targetaudience.
2. Secondary (Product)– My secondary research will be
lookingat pastand present productscurrently within
the marketI want to enter. This again is to graspwhat
my potential target audience already enjoys.
1 – Primary Audience Research
I have3 areas of which my primary research shouldtouchon.
A. Questionnaires – Purely Audience Research
The First area of primary research I wantto use is a
questionnaire. Oneaspect which highly shifts the processof a
questionnaireis COVID-19. WhenI want to carry outthis
questionnaireis still within the 3rd
UK Lockdown. Sothe
approachof printing outa list of questionsI will haveto take a
different approachwhich does notinvolveface to face
interactions.
I believe I could make a questionnaireonline with a service
like Google Formsor SurveyMonkey. Insteadoflimitingmyself
to people within my local area, I will use my connectionson
the social media, discord. Which will gather a variety of results
from across Europe. Soinstead of askingpeople directly,
runningthe risk of catching COVID-19 I will sendthem the
questionnaireto answer it in their owntime.
I hopefor 20+responsesto my questionnairewhich would
give enoughresults for an evaluationof my target audience.
B. Interviews – Audience Research andIdea Generation
Unlikequestionnaires, interviews allow for Indepth
explanationsof people's opinions. Quality over quantity. But
with the extra quality comes extra work.
Again, I believe that discordwill be my go-toappfor
interviewing people. I knowplenty of people who fit within my
4. target marketonline and in my college class whoall use
discord.
Because people have the possibility of explaining their
opinions, they couldfire outsuggestionsfor myself.
I aim to interview a minimumof 3 people who would fit within
my target market. I could even ask those who fall outsideof
thatbracket to ask them what I coulddo to makemy content
more enjoyable andentertaining for them
C. Focusgroups for evaluation – Reflection and
evaluationfrom the audience’sperspective.
Where interviews allow for oneopinionat a time, focus
groupsallow for a social groupmentality. What do people
think of my product individually will be different to what they
think of it when with their friends.
The main aim for the focus group is evaluation. I want multiple
people to watch, read andview the contentI havecreated
finding everythingpositiveand negativewhen it comes to
what these people WANT to see.
Notonly does it allow me to build uponmy production's
negatives, butit also displaystomyself the difference
between how I view my productandwhat others see.
2 – Secondary Product Research
I knowthat my secondary research will look at products
currently in public domainfrom channelsI visualise to be like
myself. Primely Racing in general, Racing gameplay andracing
news. I already personally watch many channelswhich fit into
thosecategories, its just a case of finding the brandswhich
will guide me the mosttowards the productI want tocreate.
Secondary Research Subjects
A. Magazines – Pre-internetmagazineswere the go-to
for news otherthan a TV. For racing news, I can
immediately think of Autosportmagazineas a
candidate for secondary research. Havingdominated
the racing news market for years.
B. Websites – Post2018, newshas shifted online. This is
more the area I believe my content will stray towards.
I want to see how current racing news organisations
5. layouttheir websites to be user friendly, while also
keeping a brandedlook. It is a modernmarket born
from the ever-expandinginternet.
C. YouTubeVideos – YouTubebeing the size it is, has a
large numberof candidatesto review. I aim tolook at
3 different individualsor organisations. Beingonthe
internet, YouTubehassaved plenty of statistics about
viewers analytics, sothe potential for this secondary
research is high. With platformslike SocialBlade being
of use to gather even more informationabouta
channel andits growth.
D. Social Medias – Being in the 21st
centry, every
business, channelor influences hasits own social
media. Butfor beneficial use. I have seen the potential
for social medias possibility for advertisementand
audience engagement. So notonly will I look at the
YouTubechannel, but also its social media andhow
they use it.
Overall, the maintakeaway from bothtypesof research, will
be audience perspectives. I want to understandtoas much
detail as possible. Leaving no rock unturned.
What effect do youwant to haveon
youraudience when they see your
project?
Audience Influence andthe College Back-Bone
I see the brand Pointhavingan identity crisis once college has
been completed. This is due to the fact thatthis project is only
coming tofruition because of it.
Currently, Pointcan be viewed from 2 separate angels:
1. With the course (Present)
At this time, college will be the influence on Point. Because my
grade is fully basedon thisproject, Point’ssole purposeis
aimed towardsmeeting that criteria.
Notto say that the current audience hasno effect onPoint.
The Questionnairesandinterviews are perfect examples
where my audience will impact the product, allowing them to
give me ideas which I can carry forward to my final content.
2. Withoutthe course (Future)
6. Pointhas 2 possible directionspost college. The first being I
leave it andmove ontootherwork, or it is continuedinto
more.
A. Leaving the Possibility
Knowthat Pointwill take a lot of time to plan, prepare and
create. And once I have the final productandresult from my
media course, I could leave Pointthere. This would completely
free up my time and allow me to moveontofuture projects.
B. Taking Control
If I decide to keepup with point, the channels audience will fill
the void where college left off. Where I would wantto take
Point, post-collegeis in a direction of possibility. I would not
rely on it being anythingmore thana hobby, butit is
somethingI can keep goingonce college has finished.
This is because Pointwill have all the buildingblock necessary
for me tocontinue it. All I wouldneed to continue is the
productionof videosand articles. Droppingthe areas, I do not
need. Like the social medias for example.
Describe the tone/mood/styleofyour
project [which production
techniques/characteristics are you
employing?]
BehavioursandCharacteristics
Male, precise, clean while also being professionaland
personal.
When I imagine Point, I see these characteristics. Creating
these factors is the challenge. Here are someideas Ive already
come up with to further this:
Camera Footage– Videos onmy channelshouldfeature
footage of myself, andthat’sto include thatpersonalisation
behaviourwhich I want to come throughthevideo.
Branding– PointsbrandingI envisionto be extremely male
focused. With sharplikes cuttingdown whatever document
the logo sitsupon. At this pointI do not knowwhat my logo
will look like, butI do knowthatit will be simplistic yet unseen.
Social Medias – To promoteand brand build pointonmultiple
platforms.
Preparationand Planning– Forethought isgoing to aid me
with maintainingthe characteristics andstyle throughoutthe
project.
7. Why have youdecided to makeyour
project in thisstyle? The whole reasonI picked racing as the subject which I will
cover is purely downto the emotionsit brings tothe table
duringa race. The Channel Pointis a manifestationof what I
love aboutracing. The Tension, dedication, precision etc. Will
all be reflected.
To me, Pointis also a second personality. It’stheside of me
which is dedicatedto creating something I'mhappy with. This
dedication is anothercontributingfactor.
