6. INTRODUCTION
This is a picture of damptowels on
a towel rack.
On Week 1, the rack of damp towels
was placed in an enclosed, cool
room.
On Week 2, the rack of damp towels
was placed on the patio, on a sunny,
windyday.
On which week do you think the
towels dried faster?
Suggest why in your notebook.

8. EXPLANATION
DRYING: The process by which moisture is removed from a material or substance. (Chung,
2017)
The rate of drying depends on several conditions.
Click the link below to see what these conditions are. It is a collection of flashcards.

Copy the answers on each flashcard into your notebook.
9. A CLOTHES DRYER
A clothes dryer replicates
these ideal conditions by maintaining
high temperatures, and low humidity,
while constantly moving the clothes
around.
Some clothes dryers even blow hot air
over the clothes.
That is why a clothes dryer works so
fast!
10. SUMMARY
● Drying is the process by which moisture is removed from a material or substance
● This moisture is removed via evaporation.
● The rate of drying depends on conditions that will either speed up or slow down
evaporation.
● The main factors affecting the rate of drying are: temperature, air movement, humidity and
weather.
● Hot temperatures, windy conditions and low humidity are ideal for the drying of clothes.
● A sunny day is best for drying clothes.
● A clothes dryer replicates these ideal conditions by maintaining high temperatures, and low
humidity, while constantly moving the clothes around. Some clothes dryers even blow hot
air over the clothes. That is how a clothes dryer works so fast!
