Decline of the City
Decades of rapid growth in Athens caused infra-
structural problems and a social-cultural imbalance,
against a background of difficult economic circum-
stances. The decline of the city centre is clearly
visible, low quality of life and a shortage of green
in a severe environment.
The project
Changing the heart of Athens into a true contem-
porary metropolitan city centre requires transforma-
tion of the city triangle into a lively and attractive
part of the city. innovative theories of climate
control, reduction of vehicular movement and pro-
gramming public realm into practice. By creating
an integrated proposal to realize a resilient, acces-
sible and vibrant city, not just limited by its project
borders, but by linking this area to its adjacent
areas and therefore becoming a catalyst for the
whole city. A new network of public and semi-
public spaces will provide new and safe routes,
creating new places where people can enjoy and
ultimately, encourage new developments.
Economical Activation
The regeneration of the city centre will strongly
contribute to the change of Athens. It will improve
the environment of the city plus activating the area
economically
4. Luxury Hotel Apartments – Milos-Cyclades
The landscape
It’s about a sloping landscape, typical of Cyclades with
little water. Although the vegetation is little its formation
is very interesting. The view to the sea towards east is
amazing. There is a path leading to a private beach.
You can find here a local, black rock in small pieces
called “opsidianos”.
The project
The slopping landscape was interpreted in a private
road of colored stone mortar that “flows” and leads the
visitor around. The flow is marked by narrow strips of
black marble (refers to opsidianos). The strips are lighted
in the night and they create the lighting flow.
The interior design is inspired by the Greek light,
the most characteristic element of Hellenic landscape.
Friendly materials to the environment are used and wa-
ter management is one of the biggest challenges
for the design team.

to serve as an outdoor space “entrance” to the new Museum of

its inspiration from Paul Klee’s painting. We coped with the height
difference between the road and the existing square in front of the
church by creating “triangles” which create a green carpet.

.The choice of materials has its own importance.

buried in this time and all the related native vegetation are designating a fragile natural system on
the border of a heavy traffic road.
The project
A delicate approach towards the existing riparian vegetation, the use of the water element in order
to remind the buried stream and the smooth handling of the terrain form the proposal. We coped

20. Dolphins’ Recreational Urban Area and Park Development in Odessa – Ukraine
Facts
• Client: Individual
• Area: 20 ha
• Year: 2005
Completed
• Collaboration: Studio 75 Architects SA

The site
The site of Dolphins’ Recreational urban area and Park development an area of 20Ha
(200.000sq.m.) is situated at a close distance to the city centre of Odessa along the East-
ern coast line. Two central roads cross the site from North to South and a pedestrian road
network is developed within the site along its’ north-south axis, as well as a perpendicular
from west to east connecting the city of Odessa with the coastal line. The existing “telefe-
rique” is adjacent to its’ northern boundary, while the existing tennis court club, meteorologi-
cal station and recreational area (restaurant) are integrated into the development.
The project
The architectural study tries to incorporate the existing condition of the site with the inclina-
tion of the ground and the dense planting, while simultaneously constitutes a self-existent
recreational completed development which can function independently but will not be
isolated from the city of Odessa. The buildings are developed in the eastern part of the
site in a harmonious entity with the configuration of the environment. The direct relation
of Odessa with the sea - as well as the preferential place of the site near the coast line,
constitutes the inspiration of the architectural design proposal. The concept was the creation
of a hurricane, which drifts the waves of the sea as well as the sailing boats to the harbour
– city with its’ lighthouse. This concept was realized with 6 building types. The differentia-
tion of the buildings define the conceptual annotation of the 6 types : ”hurricane” – Type 1,
“waves” – Type 2, “boats” – Type 3, “harbour” – Types 4-5, “lighthouse” – Type 6.

The project
There are two options for the project. One is inspired from the symbol of the
cancer constellation that can be read both ways, representing in a theoretical
level the double reality of Libya: the coexistence of tradition and evolution.
The second solution is inspired from the coil that represents the evolution of
Libya and its progress. The organization of the plan for a typical level with the
central staircase reinforce this choice.
