This presentation is given in-person with the slideshow support sometimes when I travel. For the sake of SlideShare.net, I condensed it and cut out all of the videos that I use through the presentation. Although one image shows a copyright by Answers in Genesis, I was the designer and have full permission to use the imagery.
5. • What is the nature of God?
• What is the origin of life?
• What is the nature of man?
• What happens to a person at death?
• What is the nature of truth and
morality?
6. A secular worldview makes
for good science fiction
but only a biblical
worldview makes sense
of the world
7.
8. • Does God exist?
– Sci-fi: There is no God
– A fool rejects God (Psalm 14:1 & 53:1)
– Creation proclaims God‟s attributes
(Romans 1:20)
• How many gods?
– Sci-fi: there are many “gods”
– Only one God (1 Corinthians 8:5–6;
Deuteronomy 6:4; Ephesians 4:4–6)
9. For even if there are so-called gods
whether in heaven or on earth, as
indeed there are many gods and many
lords, yet for us there is but one God,
the Father, from whom are all things
and we exist for Him; and one Lord,
Jesus Christ, by whom are all things,
and we exist through Him.
10. You believe that God is one.
You do well; the demons
also believe, and shudder.
11. • Is God involved?
– Sci-fi: if “god” exists, he doesn‟t care
– God shows Himself strong
(2 Chronicles 16:9)
– God hears the prayers of the righteous
(Psalm 5:3, Proverbs 15:29,
1 Peter 3:12)
12. The LORD is far from the wicked,
But He hears the prayer of the
righteous.
13. For the eyes of the Lord are
toward the righteous,
And His ears attend to their
prayer,
But the face of the Lord is against
those who do evil.
14. A secular worldview makes
for good science fiction
but only a biblical
worldview makes sense
of the world
15.
16. • How did life arise?
– Sci-fi: life evolved from primitive goo
– Man was created in God‟s image
(Genesis 1:26–27, 2:7; Psalm 139:14)
• Who were Adam and Eve?
– Sci-fi: Adam and Eve myth or metaphor
– Genesis 1 and 2 are historical narrative
– Adam and Eve were made in the
beginning (Matthew 19:4)
17. And He [Jesus] answered and
said, “Have you not read that He
who created them from the
beginning made them male and
female …”
18. A secular worldview makes
for good science fiction
but only a biblical
worldview makes sense
of the world
19.
20. • What is man‟s state?
– Sci-fi: man is perfect
– All creation is cursed (Romans 8:22)
– Man is wicked (Jeremiah 17:9;
John 3:19–20; Romans 3:23)
– But man is special to God (Psalm 8:4–5,
139:17; John 3:16)
21. What is man that You take thought
of him,
And the son of man that You care
for him?
Yet You have made him a little
lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and
majesty!
22. “For God so loved the world,
that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whoever believes in
Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life.”
23. A secular worldview makes
for good science fiction
but only a biblical
worldview makes sense
of the world
24.
25. • What is death‟s place?
– Sci-fi: simple, biological truth
– God created “very good” (Genesis 1:31)
– Death is an enemy (1 Corinthians 15:26)
– Death is the consequence of sin
(Romans 5:12, 6:23)
26. Therefore, just as through one
man sin entered into the world,
and death through sin, and so
death spread to all men,
because all sinned.
27. For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
28. • What is after death?
– Sci-fi: nothingness
– Judgment (Hebrews 9:27)
– Heaven or hell (Matthew 13:41–43)
29. “The Son of Man will send forth His angels,
and they will gather out of His kingdom all
stumbling blocks, and those who commit
lawlessness, and will throw them into the
furnace of fire; in that place there will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the
righteous will shine forth as the sun in the
kingdom of their Father. He who has ears,
let him hear.”
30.
31. • What is after death?
– Sci-fi: nothingness
– Judgment (Hebrews 9:27)
– Heaven or hell (Matthew 13:41–43)
• Should death be feared?
– Sci-fi: humans fear death
– Christ conquered death
(1 Corinthians 15:54–57
1 Thessalonians 4:13–14)
32. “Death is swallowed up in victory. O
death, where is your victory? O death,
where is your sting?” The sting of
death is sin, and the power of sin is
the law; but thanks be to God, who
gives us the victory through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
33. A secular worldview makes
for good science fiction
but only a biblical
worldview makes sense
of the world
34.
35. • What is truth?
– Sci-fi: only what we can observe
– Jesus Christ (John 14:6)
– The Bible (John 8:31–32, John 17:17,
2 Timothy 3:16)
36. … “If you continue in My
word, then you are truly
disciples of Mine; and you will
know the truth, and the truth
will make you free.”
37. All Scripture is inspired by God
and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, for training
in righteousness; so that the man
of God may be adequate,
equipped for every good work.
38. • How to know morality?
– Sci-fi: no absolutes, relative
– God‟s Word is our path (Psalm 119:105)
– Defined by the Law of God
(Romans 3:20b, 7:7)
– Two commands (Mark 12:29–31)
39. Jesus answered, “The foremost is, „Hear,
O Israel! The Lord our God is one
Lord; and you shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all
your strength.‟ The second is this, „You
shall love your neighbor as yourself.‟
There is no other commandment greater
than these.”
40. • What about “religion”?
– Sci-fi: religion discarded for science
– Sci-fi: the Bible is broken
– Sci-fi: faith and knowledge are separate
– Knowledge comes after faith
(Proverbs 9:10; 1 Peter 1:5)
– Inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16)
41. All Scripture is inspired by God
and profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, for training
in righteousness; so that the man
of God may be adequate,
equipped for every good work.
42. A secular worldview makes
for good science fiction
but only a biblical
worldview makes sense
of the world
