Good Stuff Happens in 1:1 Meetings: Why you need them and how to do them well
Cd manufacturing
1. Title – Brief Introduction to CD Manufacturing
Content:
CD Manufacturing plants all around the world have
seen a large fall in demand for their services due to
ever improving internet speeds and downloading
capabilities. Probably the main industry affected is
the music industry which of course has always
demanded high volume of CD production. Prior to
the ability to download music, pretty much all
released was on CD whether it be an album or just a
single. Now with the download market place, most
singles are downloaded hence reducing the
requirement of the physical format.
Many people seem to think this is the end of CD
manufacturing requirements altogether but when
you look at statistics and all factors involved it is
simply the reduced demand needing to meet the
actual capacity available. Using the music industry
alone as a model, considering how many singles are
released each month and prior to download the
volume of units pressed and sold of all singles, the
volume is quite substantial so when this requirement
is removed it is inevitable there becomes a big
excess in capacity over demand. Albums are also
available as download however the demand for the
physical CD is still far greater than the download
probably due to consumers feeling better value for
2. money and also to get more than just the music
itself.
As a direct result of this fall in demand, many
factories around the world have closed which
naturally reduces the available capacity towards to
actual demand. With album sales still holding strong
and no apparent demand for high definition audio to
replace the standard audio CD, there is no reason to
believe the physical CD is going to disappear
altogether anytime in the near future. There have
been attempts to offer alternatives such as flash
drives but again the consumer chooses the CD.
It is wrong to assume people care less about the
quality of products and music they buy now. Of
course there are certain genres of music that is
aimed at younger people who probably aren’t so
concerned but the majority of album sales are by
people who want the best available. When you
consider it is simple to rip the audio from the CD to
your portable player anyway it makes sense to work
from the best quality and also retain the best version
rather than download an inferior copy due to
compression in the first place. Why not have the best
of both options rather than pay the same for the
lower quality? Artists would not go to such great
lengths to be sure of the best recording, best mix
and best master if they did not think it would benefit
so as long as there is the demand for the best
available quality there will be a demand for CD
manufacturing.
