We may need to call it “Black Thursday”:
Thanksgiving has emerged as a huge
day for ecommerce in the US with some
physical stores closing and shoppers
choosing to spend the day with family and
friends rather than in stores
The number of shoppers increased 5.1%
year over year while the number of
purchasers increased 26.2%
The relatively higher increase in
purchasers compared to shoppers
indicates that people had already shopped
around for goods and were ready to buy
Purchasing peaked online at 9 PM EST
and 46% of all purchases occurred on
mobile phones, the highest amount of
the season
There is a mid afternoon “Turkey Dip” in
purchasing that occurs during the
traditional eating hours
Thanksgiving Day showed the biggest
cart sizes of the season thus far: $180 -
- $24 more than the average for the month
