Robert Mallet was an Irish geophysicist and engineer born in 1810 who made significant contributions to the fields of seismology and engineering. After graduating from Trinity College, he worked for his father's iron foundry and was involved in major projects like lighthouses and bridges. He coined several important seismology terms and was the first to develop an early seismograph. Through his research papers, he helped establish the foundations of modern seismology and proved that volcanic activity causes earthquakes. He also designed effective cannons for use in the Crimean War. Mallet was recognized during his career with honors from scientific institutions and spent his later years in London, passing away in 1881.
