Overview

• Greatest promise for improving our understanding of development issues
• Puts forth clear, articulate and well researched policy implications to address
development problems
• Substantive merits of submission
• Potential for completion and development of proposal
• Completed research published, Petar Stankov, Bulgaria (2010) as working paper and
submitted for journal publication
• Presentation of findings in international conferences: Chandrasekhar (2011)

Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP)
Overview
• Development project proposals that are innovative and have an original and
innovative approach to an important development need
• Ovver 420 proposals received this year
• Creativity/Innovativeness: what approach is different from existing ones?
• Objective and Measuring Results: What development idea is the project addressing
and presence of clear, measurable results that will have impact on improving lives?
• Social Impact and Sustainability: Does the project contribute to social development?
Is it sustainable? Local ownership?
• Replicability: How easily can the project be replicated? Expanded?
• Cost efficiency: What are the measurable impacts compared to cost of project?
• Brings recognition for further funding
• Bachpan Bachao Andolan (MIDP winner 2010) put 65 children back in school and assigned a
student tracker in villages where child labour is very rampant.
