2. EVALUATION OVERVIEW
This evaluation form is designed to assist you in the evaluation of your projects.
When using this form it is good practice to:
• Use appropriate terminology.
• Stay concise and focus on key points.
• Evaluate and analyse your statements.
• Focus on judgements about work rather than telling a story of how it was made.
Please find the grading matrix here to help you assess you are working at the right level.

3. PROJECT
OVERVIEW
In this section you will outline the aim of the project/task and
give an overview of the activates you undertook to complete
it.
4. WHAT WAS THE THEME OF YOUR PROJECT
AND WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO IT?
The group theme of the project is that we were going to make a social media for students
where they can showcase their work online, this can range from short films to printworks.
We decided to go for a cyberpunk/vaporwave theme in which we made a colour scheme
for the website and logo. I made the concept logos and the actual logo for the website
itself.
5. WHAT RESEARCH DID YOU UNDERTAKE AND
HOW DID IT HELP DEVELOP YOUR PROJECT?
The thing I researched mostly was the Team Fortress 2 comics that are online. I wanted
to base my character from one of the characters in the Team Fortress 2 comic. I also did
research on this musician called Joey Valance because he’s the one who gave me
inspiration to base my character off him. With the time subject I explored what I thought
about when I thought about Time and one of the things was Back To The Future which
was my main inspiration of making my content for the grid.

7. HOW DID YOU DEVELOP AND IMPROVE
YOUR IDEAS THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT?
As a group we talked about what the theme of the project could be and we decided on a
vaporwave/cyberpunk theme. We first started to look at colour schemes and try and get
the right aesthetic for it. We then decided to do different parts of the project so someone
made the logo, someone else made the website design and someone made the ident.
However I was the one who actually finished their task so I had to go and finish the
website design as well. I don’t even know what happened to the ident at this point, Sam
said it was a working progress but he never got back to me and just forgot about it.
8. WHAT WAS THE OUTCOME OF THE
PROJECT/TASK?
The outcome of the project was an absolute disaster, I was the one who practically did all
the work. I made the logo and finished the website main menu concept. I wanted an
ident but someone else was going to make it but at the end they never made it. I hated
this project because it was supposed to be a group project at first but at the end I had to
do all the work because I didn’t want to fail this project.
9. PERSONAL RESPONSE
This section will explore your thoughts and feelings about the
experience. This will help gain a understand of how your
personal feelings may have impacted the final outcome.
10. HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT THE PROJECT
BEFORE YOU STARTED?
I felt really confused because the original project was scrapped for this new project. When
Scott explained it to us it took me several times to understand it and I still had no fully idea
what it was, so I just went with the flow and what he told us to do, and I developed ideas
from it. When we got put into groups, I knew that I was going to fail. Scott decided to put
me into a group where all 3 of us don’t do much work in class and he thought it would be a
good idea to put us all 3 into a group so we can do work together. I knew from the start this
project was going to be a car crash.
11. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND HOW DID
IT HELP YOU TO REFINE YOUR IDEA?
The project as a group was horrifying but the individual work was actually decent. The
thing that helped me refine my idea for the individual work was a 1 to 1 meeting with
Scott which we talked about my fmp and I decided to do a comic and so I decided to
make a comic for The Grid as a practice run. It went well and honestly I’m proud of what
I made, it was short but it’s fun.
12. DID YOU COLLABORATE ON YOUR PROJECT
OR ENGAGE CONTRIBUTORS, ETC?
The only collab I can think of is talking about my work to my friends and discussing what
we all did. I did get advice from them and I used that in my planning for the group work
and individual work.
13. HOW DID YOU FEEL WHEN THE PROJECT
WAS COMPLETED AND WHY?
I felt relived that it was finally over, this project has been a disaster from the very start
since I got grouped with the people in class who do no work in class so I could actually get
a push to do my work. However this basically took a toll on my mental health as I was
stressed because no one in my group did the work except for me. Ben Manby might’ve
done something but it was the absolute bare minimum and not enough.
14. EVALUATING THE
PROJECT
In the previous sections, you have been commenting upon the project development. The evaluation may include some
similar information but it will also include critical comment.
An evaluation must include information about the good and bad points of the project and it is important to be honest.
Finally, you should make a judgment about the effectiveness of the success of the project
15. WHAT WERE THE GOOD POINTS ABOUT THE
PROJECT/TASK AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM
THEM? [TRY AND THINK OF AT LEAST 3, MORE IF
POSSIBLE]
I learned how to use my drawing software a lot better which produced good artwork for my
project so a positive thing of this project was my logos, I am actually proud of them so I
put them in my uni portfolio. Another good point was that I when I did my individual work
which was a comic I decided to give it a test run so I can see how well I would’ve done
for my fmp and honestly I think I did well. Another thing was how to communicate with
people who don’t do work, it was challenging at first but with enough convincing I
managed to get my group to actually do the work and we discussed really good ideas.
16. WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE AND HOW
DID YOU RESPOND TO THEM? TRY AND THINK
OF AT LEAST 3...
One of my biggest challenges was that I got paired with the worst group ever made and non of them did
work except for me. However I tried my best to communicate with them but they responded with the
bare minimum, we had good ideas but those ideas weren't being made so it was a nightmare so I
decided to just do most of the work and let them do their own thing. Another challenge was that krita
files wouldn’t load on photoshop but photoshop files could load on krita. This was a massive challenge
because I had to constantly made another panels in class and at home, however I had an idea that I
would start a panel in class and I could finish the panel at home and that way I could easily transfer files
around. Another challenge was my home computer, I’ve had my laptop for 6 years now and
downloaded many things so now my laptop runs like it’s constantly fighting for its life to the point where
it made me avoid doing work at home as it’s so slow to switch it on and get it running. I sorted this by
turning on my computer as soon as I get home so by the time I’ve settled in and ready to do work the
laptop is up and running.
17. WHAT WERE THE NEGATIVE POINTS ABOUT
THE EXPERIENCE, AND WHAT COULD YOU
HAVE DONE TO IMPROVE THEM?
The biggest negative thing was the people I got grouped with. It was like you put the worst
people in a group, set them on fire and left them to it, but one of them managed to pat
the fire down on themselves (me), one of them is still on fire (Ben) and the other is just
lying there dead (Sam). It was probably one of the worst group projects I’ve ever done in
my life. However, I could’ve improved the experience by planning ahead more carefully
as my group just left it until last minute which caused a lot of stress for me. Another was
the krita and photoshop file incident as they didn’t let me open them so what I could’ve
done is changed the file types so I could try and figure out if there was another way I
could edit the panels without waiting all day so I can open it at home.
18. HOW WOULD YOU RATE THE FINAL PIECE?
[THINK ALONG THE LINES OF POOR,
SATISFACTORY, GOOD OR
EXCELLENT...JUSTIFY YOUR RATING]
It was satisfactory, to me the individual work was a test run for my fmp and I think it went
well. My comic was made in a week but if I had more time I think I’d able to make a full
and better comic.
19. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION OF YOUR FINAL PIECE?
WHAT ELEMENTS DO YOU THINK ARE
SUCCESSFUL AND WHY?
Honestly I think the final piece was okay, I could’ve done better. But I think the most
successful elements are the storyline, the drawn images and the ending of the comic.
The storyline was actually really creative because it allowed me to explore a different art
style and it fit well into the storyline about time travel. The drawn images were actually
drawn good because I used vector whenever the panel was showing the main
characters face so the drawing looks more clean and smooth. The colours mixed in well
together and the ending of the comic was drawn in a pencil brush so it looks like I drew it
on pencil and paper because the main character accidently got rid of ink in the past
causing ink to never be invented.
20. ANALYSIS
In this section, you will focus on the details of the project and make
sense of what happened in the project. You should demonstrate how
your decisions informed the project development and the success of
the outcome.
21. IN WHAT WAYS WAS THE OVERALL
PROJECT A SUCCESS?
Honestly the whole project was a success because with the marketing and designing
logos and websites went really well and we got the aesthetic we wanted in our logo and
website design. The project we did individually went well because it allowed me to use a
different art style at the end of the comic and it allowed me to experiment art styles for
the future and see which one work the best for a comic design. The logo for the
company was probably my best work because it was so simple yet so detailed if you
looked closer at it and it’s easily recognizable and fits into the theme well.
22. WHAT ELEMENTS DID NOT GO WELL AND
WHY?
Working together as a group went horribly wrong since I got paired up with the worst
people in class and I had to do all the work for my self. It was really stressful because I
kept asking my group to do things and they either didn’t do it or they produced
something really bad to the point it was embarrassing. If my group actually worked
properly we could’ve produced some good work but sadly I was the only one who could
actually produce good work through the production part. Not only that but my group also
didn’t write anything down on the power points. One of them did make a survey which I
liked but that was one minor thing that I could’ve easily done.
23. HOW DID YOUR SKILLS DEVELOP DURING THE
PORTFOLIO? [REMEMBER, SKILLS AREN'T
JUST TECHNICAL, REMEMBER THINGS LIKE
ORGANISATION, TIME MANAGEMENT,
COMMUNICATION, ETC AS WELL]
My skills developed through my art skills and experimentation in my work. One of the
things I did when making the logo was making it vector and using different brushes for it.
In the image you can see what brushed
I experimented with such as the dot
brush and a vector design. There’s also
a slight gradient in the wheels that go
from red to orange in which I put the
orange dot brush over it to give it more
texture.
24. WHAT MEANING AND MESSAGES DID YOU WANT
TO CONVEY AND WERE YOU SUCCESSFUL?
In the comic I made for The Grid was a comedy comic about time travel and its main
purpose was to show that if you make a mistake in the past then it could effect the
future, so basically the butterfly effect. I think it was successful because it allowed me to
show it in a creative and ridiculous way by having a time traveler teaching cavemen how
to fish so they can make civilization grow faster but ended up deleting ink from the
timeline.
25. WHAT FEEDBACK DID YOU GET FROM
YOUR PEERS AND VIEWINGS?
The people I showed my comic too said that it was very creative on how at the end of the
comic it switches art style and it relates to the storyline. My drawings were good but they
said that the speech bubbles could use a bit of work since the text sometimes looks out
of place. The character design was good because they found the time traveler funny
because of his design looking like a 90’s beastie boys rapper and the cavemen looked
like cavemen.
26. WHAT WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENTLY IN
THE FUTURE AND WHY?
I would plan ahead a lot more. Because this project was changed last minute and didn’t
tell us what it was we didn’t really get to plan ahead of it and we also had very limited
time because when we thought we finished one side of the project we started the other
one and everyone was very confused and I struggled to plan ahead because I was
incredibly confused to what we were actually doing and when I figured out what we were
actually doing there wasn’t enough time.
27. WHAT KNOWLEDGE HAVE YOU GAINED THAT
WOULD HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE TO
IMPROVE YOUR PROJECT? ALSO, WHAT
KNOWLEDGE FROM ACADEMIC LITERATURE
AND PROFESSIONALS HAS HELPED AND WHY?
I have gained more knowledge on the software I use called Krita and now I know a lot
more on how to make certain styles such as vector. This new knowledge on the software
is going to help me a lot in the future because I’ve applied for graphic design for uni so
with my new skills I can develop products much easier. The knowledge I gained from
professionals is how they draw things out. I always thought everyone used vector so I
had to teach myself it but most professionals draw a sketch and develop it carefully from
it. When I used to plan ahead I just drew a quick sketch and then quickly developed the
final drawing which caused a lot more stressed.
28. ACTION PLAN
This section will identify what you would do differently in the
future and identify ways you could develop.
29. IF YOU WERE MAKING A SIMILAR PROJECT IN
THE FUTURE, WHAT WOULD YOU DO
DIFFERENTLY?
I would plan ahead a lot more, it takes time to finish a product especially if you draw it.
Planning is like the backbone of the final piece and I should plan carefully instead of
improvising and see how it turns out. In the future, for my final major project I’m going to
make a comic so with my knowledge I gained from The Grid project I’m going to plan
ahead better and know more of what I’m trying to draw out. I’d plan ahead what my
character design is and a script to follow so it would make my work 10 times easier to
produce rather than improvise through it like I have more the past projects.
30. HOW COULD YOU DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS FOR
FUTURE PROJECTS? PLEASE IDENTIFY THE
APPROPRIATE RESOURCES AND COURSES.
FOR EXAMPLE, WEBPAGES, TUTORIALS,
BOOKS, SHORT COURSES AND
QUALIFICATIONS.
I would develop my skills by taking inspiration from different designers and comic creators. So
one example is looking up tutorials on shading and colour theory, there’s many tutorials on
youtube on how colour theory works and shading. Another way to help me are the how to
draw comic books by Scott McCloud. His books explain everything on what a comic needs
and how to develop an art style which can go from very simple to very detailed and how to
set the tone for the comic book using the art styles. The Tumblr FireAlpaca page includes
tutorials on how to do certain things on the FireAlpaca software such as make animation,
how to copy and paste an image and bend it around and other things you can do on the
software. With all these skills suing different softwares I can produce media that is better
than my previous work and improve anything that could be improved.
31. WHAT PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES COULD YOU
DEVELOP TO ENSURE YOU ARE WORKING AT A
PROFESSIONAL LEVEL?
I could plan ahead a lot more carefully and think exactly what I need to plan before I do it
rather than improvise the whole thing with minimal research and actually plan ahead
with a lot of research, character designs, experiments, checking if the final piece actually
fits in well and etc.
