ClearedJobs.Net is a job board and a job fair company for individuals with security clearances. We’re veteran owned (if at a Marine base such as Henderson Hall tell them we’re MARINE owned! And we’re headquartered in Falls Church so we’re local. We work with recruiters at defense and intel contractors so that is the perspective we bring although much of the information is generic whether you’re going to work for Lockheed Martin or Ralston Purina.
HP’s recruiters. All are unique just as all job seekers are unique. The “right” answer to any question depends to a certain extent on the recruiter you’re talking to and your unique situation. Many transitioning service members ask when as a job seeker they should start talking to recruiters – reaction will depend on the recruiter. Some can only think 30 or 45 days out and only want to deal with the req in hand. Others think more broadly and as a representative of their employer will engage because they want you (or your referrals) to think of their company when it comes time for you to transition.

Your voicemail should be professional as well, a message that you would leave in an office identifying who you are.
Use targeted job boards to gather intel on the job market. No matter your profession or interest, you can find a job board that makes sense for the industry or profession you’re targeting. For example there are job boards for logistics or job boards for geographic areas (such as Maryland) or job boards for people with security clearance. Research you do here is analogous to searching for a house – you’re educating yourself on the market.
Most of our customer service calls are because people are initially to specific when doing searches. At the beginning of the presentation I referenced we work with recruiters. A recruiter may also be known as a talent acquisition manager or an HR specialist. Use job boards and make sure you’ve got the right keywords for your profession. Also we see a lot of geographic issues with jobs – for example Arlington, KY, missing zip codes or challenges with areas such as DC or Norfolk, VA where there are multiple bases, cities and towns.
Employee Referral Programs – MIT study employees who are referred are a better fit for the position, stay with the company longer and perform better. They are the gold. Private industry in general 20-30% of new hires are referrals. Defense and intel contracting even more important. see Booz Allen is 55%, Mitre is nearly 70%.
3 ways social media can help job seekers – validates info on their resume, demonstrates good comm skills, gives the hiring manager a feel for your personality. Ways that it hurts – conflicts with resume, exhibits poor comm skills (spelling errors worse than drinking) and badmouth previous employer
