As part of my Audience research, we gathered pieces of information from our target demographic and created a mood-board, focus group and a survey. This compiles the research that helped us to choose who would be the audience for our media product.
4. AUDIENCE SURVEY
As you can see from our results, our demographic is male and females, aged 16-18, who watch teen dramas
more often than not. Teen drama programmes like 'Skins' and 'Pretty Little Liars' are highlighted as being quite
popular amongst our audience. The main archetypal character that is seen most in a teen drama, is the 'popular'
one, which relates to our opening, as we will centre the opening around the main character 'Lola' and the
connection between her and her friends. The most popular hobby from our multiple choice question was, that
our demographic enjoys to 'hang out with their friends', showing the importance of friendship, which is the main
theme that will run the thought the heart of the opening.
The common criticism of this genre (according to our demographic) is that teen dramas are 'stereotypical' and
'predictable', lacking an exciting enigmatic structure, adding intensified scenes to grip the audience. As a result
of this, we have chosen to tackle the lack of enigma, by creating an opening, reflecting a hybrid genre (teen
thriller/drama). This will hopefully help us to engage with our teen demographic, but also increase the sense of
enigma, that you would normally see in an opening for a thriller.
