  1. With nearly 2.5 million people incarcerated, the US has a greater proportion of prisoners than any other country.
  2. This problem disproportionately affects Black (4.8% incarcerated) and Latino Americans (1.9% incarcerated) compared to White Americans (0.7% incarcerated).

  4. This not only leads to problems such as social disenfranchisement and institutionalization but also less likelihood of employment.
