3. FINAL CUT PRO
This is a very professional editing software what helped me construct my
work to a high standard. This software enabled me to take the long clips
used from filming and edit them in chronological order. This type of
software is easy to get your hands on and is usually used with low
budget/independent film.
The software has many different editing tools. These include; the blade tool
what enables me to cut small segments, the trim tool what allowed me
to match the actors mouth with the audio and the shuttle interface what
allowed me to speed up scenes or slow them down. These were the
three main tools used during the editing process of the film.
Final cut pro also allowed me to up the contrast of the film, add many
effects such as “prism” what enabled me to use the unique 3D effect
what was liked in my audience feedback and allowed me to add key
frames to add or take away effects in a “smooth” way. I was also able to
add sound effects such as “heartbeat” what was featured in the opening
sequence of the film.
4. PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop was used to create the unique ancillary tasks. These included
the digipack and poster for the digipack. I used many graphics to try
and match the conventions included with the Hip-Hop genre.
In order to create the “minimalistic” approach within the digipack, I aimed
for the poster and digipack to have the same color scheme. Photoshop
had the tools to achieve the pixilated effect by clicking on the mosaic
tool and changing the pixel size. I also used many tools such as the
magnetic lasso and the refine edge tool in order to achieve a
professional looking image on the background.
Photoshop was great as it was easy to download fonts from tools such as
1001 fonts from the internet. This helped the overall package standout
as the default fonts do no look as professional. I was also able to
download these fonts and use them in final cut pro.
5. WORDPRESS
Wordpress is the tool in which I used to document all of my work. This is
the hub of all my learning activities and has all of the coursework in
which I have worked on throughout the year. This was used for my
planning, research and evaluations.
Wordpress allowed me to post different types of media texts such as
images of different music videos, images of digipacks and so on. This
enabled the blog itself to look more visual and interesting.
6. YOUTUBE
Youtube was predominately used for research of current music videos. This
helped me choose which genre I was aiming for and also helped me
research more on the Andrew Goodwin conventions. Thanks to
YouTube I was able to receive inspiration from the current music videos
what have been released.
YouTube was also used to upload the music video I created and the
audience feedback video.
7. POWERPOINT
This was used to present some of the questions. Powerpoint is a useful
format as it is easy to use and easy to create interesting pieces of work.
Powerpoint has been useful as it enabled me to breakdown questions
and go into plenty of detail using images and videos.
8. LIST OF HARDWARE USED
Backdrop and Soft Boxes
Tripod
Canon Legria HF R506
Canon DSLR
9. CAMERA
The camera was used to film the music video is called “Canon Legria HF
R506”. This enabled me to shoot the film in High Definition with 3.2
Megapixels, 57x advanced zoom and 32x optical zoom.
The camera used to take images for the digipack was the Canon DS. This
produced a very high quality standard of images and enabled the
images to have a professional look. This piece of equipment was easy
to use and was responsive to performance.
10. TRIPOD
The tripod was used to enable the camera to look still and stop the
shakiness. This enabled a solid base for the camera to stand on. The
three legs was easily extended via straps on the bottom of each leg.
There is also a camera clip on the base to enable the camera to stay in
place without shaking when there are vigorous camera movements.
This was one of the most essential pieces of equipment as it enabled me to
make many smooth transitions, without the tripod the video will look
very unprofessional.
11. SOFT BOXES AND BACKDROP
The soft box is the photographic lighting device to make the backdrop and
subject to be seen better. Various soft light types create an even light
source and diffuses the light by directing it through the material used
on these products.
The soft boxes was used for taking images for the digipack package. This
was useful as it gave me the correct amount of professional standard
light needed to enable the package to come across as a high standard.
The white backdrop allowed the light to bounce off the backdrop. This
enabled a good balance of light between the model and camera. This
also enabled the image to be a lot easier to edit in photoshop.
12. APPLE MAC
This is the most important piece of equipment used. This computer a as a 2
GHz core Duo. This high standard processor means that is a lot faster
than most conventional computers and was able to handle large tasks
such as final cut and photoshop, this was seen as extremely efficient.
The Mac also contains two USB ports and fire wires. This enabled me to
easily upload my footage from the camera and to quickly upload my
work to platforms such as YouTube and Wordpress.
The keyboard was also used and is a very important part of the Mac itself. It
was very easy to use.
The mouse was used a lot to edit footage and edit imagery in photoshop.
The mouse has a small LED for the optical tracking system meaning
that a mouse pad wasn’t needed.
