FMP Context
Initial Idea
• My initial idea for my FMP is to create a documentary/vlog of myself going to the gym and working out.
I would like to do this to show my audience why I go, what I want out of it and how it makes me feel.
Going to the gym tends to boost my mental health positively but also makes me feel better about
myself physically and mentally while also distracting me from anything that may be bothering me, and
it makes me focus on the important thing at the time, which usually is working out and trying to make
myself feel better. I will also be doing a weekly vlog of how I am doing in the week, what I have done
for production and what I will be doing in the following weeks to complete my project and make it be
at its highest standards so that I get the grade that is needed for me to carry on in further education
(university). I think this project will be successful as it is something I am passionate about, I created my
factual project around the same topic but I based it at other people, I think this project will be better as
it will be more personal and I will be able to open up to my audience and I will be able to film
whenever I want instead of relying on a cast and crew as that is a struggle because you have to plan as
a group what days we would be filming or interviewing.
Why I Have Chosen This?
• The reason I have chosen this theme for my FMP is because it is something that is very special and
important in my life. I have had mental health problems for just under a year and they have effected
me majorly through my second year at college, I have tried many ways to cope with my problems but
for ages I couldn’t find anything to help me. I then started going to the gym with a couple of my friends
which started to help me, I turned this into a regular activity so I went to the gym at least 3 times a
week. As I started doing this more often it helped with my mental health and it was a way of relieving
any stress or anxiety that I had building up inside of me. The reason I have chosen the theme of
documenting my mental health and the gym is because it is a major impact on my life and way of living,
it has also affected the way I have been at college and the work I have been doing, and I wanted to
document it to talk about it and let my audience know how much of a struggle it is, but also to show
just how hard I am trying to get back on track, both at college and in my day to day lifestyle. I feel like
there will be a lot to discuss with this topic for my project as it can delve into many stories and facts not
only about me but also others that I may interview. The purpose of this documentary is to explain to
my audience the struggles that myself and others may have and how to work around them and how to
make yourself stronger both physically and mentally. For these ideas I will research some existing work
and some pieces of work that may be similar to what I would like to create, and some inspirational
pieces that speak to me and give me a clearer idea for my final piece.

• This mood board uses images from vlogs, people working out at the
gym, etc. As I would like my FMP to be vlog/documentary based I felt
like these images showed my idea clearly, as it consisted of text and
clear images of the aim of my idea. Throughout these images there is
a clear repetition s it is all based on the same theme, and they all use
the repetition of bright colours this is because it is a happy and fun
environment which I would like to show throughout my piece of
work. This will influence me for my final product as it shows different
shots in each image, uses bright colours, which set the mood to be
happy and joyful, it clearly shows the theme I am going for which is a
happy and joyful piece of work, this will help me with my ideas, shots
and colours for my final piece.

This video inspired me as she talks through her routine
while she is at the gym, the effects each workout has on
you, how to do it right, and how it improves your body and
physique. She includes a mixture of workouts, and creates
a weekly diary of what she will do each day. She shows
each stage of her workout, which includes her warm-up,
workout, break and warm-down. This is very inspiring as it
shows a mixture of ideas I could include in my own project,
such as how to perfect the workout and how it can effect
your body in a positive way.

I see Xeela Fitness's videos as very inspiring as the are all about
body transformation, and it shows peoples strengths and
weaknesses throughout the video. I like the shots and scenic
locations they use in all pieces of their work. They manage to show
that their pieces of work are very cheerful and fun throughout, this
is shown with their music and colour choices, and the activities
they choose to show towards their audience. I like how they show
the struggles that the people have that are aiming for a goal, and
how they reach their goal and are very pleased with themselves
and it encourages them to keep going even though
they have reached their overall aim.

Brittany Lupton
In this video I like the transitions and techniques she uses at
the start of the video, this is very creative and technical, which
is something I would like to incorporate into my own work as it
is very intriguing to the eye, and is something my audience
may like. I also like how she shows her process throughout the
days of how she gets ready, telling her audience what she is
going to do, and her journey to the location in which she is
filming. I like how she adds pieces of text to allow her
audience to see what she is doing and how to do it while
placing it over the piece of footage of her doing the specific
workout.

I have got inspiration from my previous piece of work,
which was a factual piece of work. For this project I
based it around my two friends and their experience of
the gym, this inspired me to create another piece for my
FMP which would be about myself and my personal
goals , aims and feelings towards the gym. I wanted to
expand in this project by using voice overs, statistics and
pieces of footage that can incorporate both o f these
skills.
Strengths Weakness’s
I have gotten strong with my filming and editing skills to
present my work in a good way and up to the standards
that they should be at. This means that there is still room
for improvement which I will be able to use throughout this
project.
My editing skills could be better to make my work more
professional and above the standard that they are at, which
means I need to practice and gain help from others who
may know different techniques and skills.
I have a strong idea of what I would like to create and
produce to my audience, and I have a clear idea of what I
will be doing each week leading towards my final piece of
work.
I may have limitations with locations and equipment when
going to film which means I may not be able to get certain
pieces of footage in which I may have wanted for this piece
of work, which means I may also need a backup plan.

  • 2. Initial Idea • My initial idea for my FMP is to create a documentary/vlog of myself going to the gym and working out. I would like to do this to show my audience why I go, what I want out of it and how it makes me feel. Going to the gym tends to boost my mental health positively but also makes me feel better about myself physically and mentally while also distracting me from anything that may be bothering me, and it makes me focus on the important thing at the time, which usually is working out and trying to make myself feel better. I will also be doing a weekly vlog of how I am doing in the week, what I have done for production and what I will be doing in the following weeks to complete my project and make it be at its highest standards so that I get the grade that is needed for me to carry on in further education (university). I think this project will be successful as it is something I am passionate about, I created my factual project around the same topic but I based it at other people, I think this project will be better as it will be more personal and I will be able to open up to my audience and I will be able to film whenever I want instead of relying on a cast and crew as that is a struggle because you have to plan as a group what days we would be filming or interviewing.
  • 3. Why I Have Chosen This? • The reason I have chosen this theme for my FMP is because it is something that is very special and important in my life. I have had mental health problems for just under a year and they have effected me majorly through my second year at college, I have tried many ways to cope with my problems but for ages I couldn’t find anything to help me. I then started going to the gym with a couple of my friends which started to help me, I turned this into a regular activity so I went to the gym at least 3 times a week. As I started doing this more often it helped with my mental health and it was a way of relieving any stress or anxiety that I had building up inside of me. The reason I have chosen the theme of documenting my mental health and the gym is because it is a major impact on my life and way of living, it has also affected the way I have been at college and the work I have been doing, and I wanted to document it to talk about it and let my audience know how much of a struggle it is, but also to show just how hard I am trying to get back on track, both at college and in my day to day lifestyle. I feel like there will be a lot to discuss with this topic for my project as it can delve into many stories and facts not only about me but also others that I may interview. The purpose of this documentary is to explain to my audience the struggles that myself and others may have and how to work around them and how to make yourself stronger both physically and mentally. For these ideas I will research some existing work and some pieces of work that may be similar to what I would like to create, and some inspirational pieces that speak to me and give me a clearer idea for my final piece.
  • 6. Mood Board Analysis • This mood board uses images from vlogs, people working out at the gym, etc. As I would like my FMP to be vlog/documentary based I felt like these images showed my idea clearly, as it consisted of text and clear images of the aim of my idea. Throughout these images there is a clear repetition s it is all based on the same theme, and they all use the repetition of bright colours this is because it is a happy and fun environment which I would like to show throughout my piece of work. This will influence me for my final product as it shows different shots in each image, uses bright colours, which set the mood to be happy and joyful, it clearly shows the theme I am going for which is a happy and joyful piece of work, this will help me with my ideas, shots and colours for my final piece.

Inspiration/Influence Libby Christensen This video inspired me as she talks through her routine while she is at the gym, the effects each workout has on you, how to do it right, and how it improves your body and physique. She includes a mixture of workouts, and creates a weekly diary of what she will do each day. She shows each stage of her workout, which includes her warm-up, workout, break and warm-down. Inspiration/Influence Xeela Fitness https://www.youtube.com/watc h?v=_VYqksya-78 I see Xeela Fitness's videos as very inspiring as the are all about body transformation, and it shows peoples strengths and weaknesses throughout the video. I like the shots and scenic locations they use in all pieces of their work. They manage to show that their pieces of work are very cheerful and fun throughout, this is shown with their music and colour choices, and the activities they choose to show towards their audience. I like how they show the struggles that the people have that are aiming for a goal, and how they reach their goal and are very pleased with themselves and it encourages them to keep going even though they have reached their overall aim.

Inspiration/Influence Brittany Lupton In this video I like the transitions and techniques she uses at the start of the video, this is very creative and technical, which is something I would like to incorporate into my own work as it is very intriguing to the eye, and is something my audience may like. I also like how she shows her process throughout the days of how she gets ready, telling her audience what she is going to do, and her journey to the location in which she is filming. For this project I based it around my two friends and their experience of the gym, this inspired me to create another piece for my FMP which would be about myself and my personal goals , aims and feelings towards the gym. I wanted to expand in this project by using voice overs, statistics and pieces of footage that can incorporate both o f these skills.
  • 11. Strengths Weakness’s I have gotten strong with my filming and editing skills to present my work in a good way and up to the standards that they should be at. This means that there is still room for improvement which I will be able to use throughout this project. My editing skills could be better to make my work more professional and above the standard that they are at, which means I need to practice and gain help from others who may know different techniques and skills. I have a strong idea of what I would like to create and produce to my audience, and I have a clear idea of what I will be doing each week leading towards my final piece of work. I may have limitations with locations and equipment when going to film which means I may not be able to get certain pieces of footage in which I may have wanted for this piece of work, which means I may also need a backup plan.
