Unit 28 Production Diary – Task 3
Group – Chelsie, Dylan, Destinee & Ashley
Production Diary by Chelsie Brandrick
February 23rd
2017
Once we formed our group we decided to start work straight away.
First, I created a Whatsapp group and added everyone to it so we can discuss the unit when
we need to.
Next we had a discussion via the chat to assign the production roles.
It was decided that Dylan will produce, I will direct, Destinee will be the camera operator and
Ashley will be in charge of sound.
Then we had another discussion to decide and confirm which script we will be using. As all
of our scripts apart from Ashley’s feature different settings that are unavailable or will be too
hard to create,we chose to make Ashley’s. Her script is set in a high school and only includes
a few characters that are of the same age range to us. To make a trailer for her script, it’ll be
best to change the location to a college rather than a high school and use some actors from the
performing arts department.
Lastly, I requested the finished script from Ashley so I could start to make a shooting script
that we will later use when filming.
March 3rd
2017
We met today to allocate which parts of the assignment we will each do, decide on a name
and think more about the trailer we need to produce.
We came to the conclusion that Dylan should do the budget, call sheets and schedule as he’s
the producer, Destinee will do the research, actor release forms and location report. Ashley
agreed to help me with producing a trailer script from hers by explaining what her vision for
the script was and providing me with more detail about the story. Ashley will complete the
storyboard and health and safety report whilst I shall be working on the script, shooting script
and research. Our discussion went smoothly as the group is easy to get along and work with.
When I got home I had the idea to produce a logo for our production group after we decided
on the name Dragon Fire Productions. I made 4 logos and sent them to the group via the
Whatsapp group chat so everyone could pick the best logo.
March 9th
2017
We had a meeting this afternoon (minus Dylan) to confirm the idea for the trailer so we can
start to make a shooting script and progress with the project. It took us a while to try and
figure out how we could film Ashley’s idea whilst taking our location, budget and skill sets
into consideration. After a lengthy brainstorm I suggested that we change the genre of the
By Chelsie Brandrick Page 2
movie from horror to thriller, as it would be more realistic for us to complete a trailer in that
genre within our timescale and budget. The group agreed that the genre change was a good
idea. Then we roughly planned out what content, actors and effects the trailer will include.
As Destinee hadn’t created a survey yet, I made a questionnaire and sent it out to the public so
we could get the data back before we started production. Once we received the survey’s back
I took the data and created some graphs and pie charts that we can use at a later date in our
proposal.
We ended the session by looking at a variety of thriller film trailers online to get a better idea
of what we need to create and what editing and filming techniques we can use to
professionally capture our vision.
March 14th
2017
I presented my idea for the new trailer to the group and they liked what I had in mind. I told
them I would write up the script and shot list.
We discussed when to film and how long we thought it would take and we came to the
conclusion that the 20th
– 24th
would be best as it would leave us enough time to edit. I asked
Destinee when the actors are free and she said that they couldn’t do Tuesday’s so I left it up to
Dylan (as he is the producer) to arrange when we need the actors and when we will film.
March 16th
2017
I let the group know that the script and shot list were complete and that they were both on our
group Google drive. Dylan said he would start to work on the schedule and arrange when we
need the actors. Ashley told us she had started work on the storyboard and Destinee presented
the completed actor release forms to us.
March 23rd
2017
Today in our meeting Dylan presented a finished budget and Destinee completed the location
release forms we needed. I also wrote up the roles and responsibilities we each had so we all
knew what work we needed to complete.
We initially wanted to film from March 20th
-24th
but Destinee didn’t organise the actors nor
did she update us on the status of the situation so we are now unable to film at such short
notice without any actors. We ended the meeting by discussing what we will all do over the
holiday.
April 20th
2017
Today was our first meeting back after the holiday. I expected our group to attend the meeting
equipped with the work they should’ve completed over the holiday but that wasn’t the case.
By Chelsie Brandrick Page 3
Dylan still hasn’t done the schedule, Destinee still hasn’t arranged for any more actors and
Ashley hasn’t done the storyboard or health and safety report. I found this meeting really
infuriating as we have had a month off but no work has been completed, which is really going
to put us behind. In the meeting, I told the group to complete the work that they should’ve
done over the holiday and they agreed that they would get it done as soon as possible.
April 25th
2017
We met today to decide when we should film the trailer. As a group we established that it
needed to be done this week so we worked out that we could book the drama theatre for
Thursday night to film and we would have to act in it ourselves with the help of a few friends.
April 27th
2017
Today we met up and filmed the production group interviews that we need for our proposal.
We managed to film them in under an hour and they turned out well. However,I had to take
control and help the group with their answers (as they requested me to help) to the questions.
The group is starting to become hard to work with as the work is not being completed and
they seem to not be interested in the project anymore.
After filming the interviews we went down to the drama theatre and started to film the trailer.
This process was frustrating as the group constantly messed around which lost us valuable
time and resulted in Dylan’s camera running out of battery. Even after 2 hours of filming we
didn’t manage to film everything we needed.
April 29th
2017
I volunteered to edit the trailer to try and save us some time and Dylan said he would edit the
interviews. Dylan later said that he wouldn’t have time to edit them so I should do it instead.
Once I had edited the interviews and trailer I sent a finished copy to the group via our
Whatsapp group so they could approve it.
The editing process for the interviews was simple as the footage and content was good.
Editing the footage for the trailer was difficult and stressful as we had only filmed
approximately 30% of our initial idea and the quality of the footage and acting was dire.
I also messaged the group to see if they had completed the pre-production work from before
the holiday and the proposal and they still hadn’t, but Ashley reassured me she would start the
proposal.
May 3rd
2017
We are meant to pitch our proposal today but Ashley still hasn’t done it. At this stage in the
project I find it stressful to work with the group as they are not completing their workload and
they constantly look to me to do it for them. We evenly allocated the workload two months
By Chelsie Brandrick Page 4
ago and the group haven’t done their share yet I have completed more than I originally should
have.
May 5th
2017
We managed to set another date to pitch the proposal, which is in 5 days time. Ashley sent me
a link on Google Drive to what she had done so far on the proposal and I completed the rest
so I knew it was done in time for the pitch. In addition to this, I sent the group a list of the
remaining work they haven’t completed and they all assured me they would complete it this
weekend.
May 9th
2017
Today we met to present our finished proposal and hand in all of the work we completed on
this project.

Dylan later said that he wouldn’t have time to edit them so I should do it instead. Once I had edited the interviews and trailer I sent a finished copy to the group via our Whatsapp group so they could approve it. The editing process for the interviews was simple as the footage and content was good. Editing the footage for the trailer was difficult and stressful as we had only filmed approximately 30% of our initial idea and the quality of the footage and acting was dire. I also messaged the group to see if they had completed the pre-production work from before the holiday and the proposal and they still hadn’t, but Ashley reassured me she would start the proposal. May 3rd 2017 We are meant to pitch our proposal today but Ashley still hasn’t done it. At this stage in the project I find it stressful to work with the group as they are not completing their workload and they constantly look to me to do it for them. We evenly allocated the workload two months

May 5th 2017 We managed to set another date to pitch the proposal, which is in 5 days time. Ashley sent me a link on Google Drive to what she had done so far on the proposal and I completed the rest so I knew it was done in time for the pitch. In addition to this, I sent the group a list of the remaining work they haven’t completed and they all assured me they would complete it this weekend. May 9th 2017 Today we met to present our finished proposal and hand in all of the work we completed on this project. Word Count: 1472.
