2. Introduction
“Personal branding is something I am very passionate
about, there are many ways in which you can build your
personal brand however in today's society how you
represent yourself online, is essential when creating an
impression and developing a reputation.”
— As they say first impressions count and this is as
true online as it is in person.
— Focusing solely on LinkedIn, here are my
recommendations for how to ensure you are
creating the best first impression through your
LinkedIn profile

3. Create a full profile
— Many people don’t invest time to look at
their profile level and therefore end up
having incomplete profiles.
— This reflects poorly as it make you appear
like you do not take your profile seriously
and therefore can infer you do not take
other things seriously.

4. Include a profile picture
— People connect better visually and
therefore when you are “faceless” not
only are you missing out on potential
connections/considerations, you are also
featured at the bottom of the LinkedIn
search functionality as the system
relegates these profiles.

5. Get recommendations
— References are key to demonstrating the
success of your previous work and in
effect help sell you to other people.
— If you don’t have any, get some!
5
6. Input the right level of detail
What level of detail is the right level?
— Essentially LinkedIn searches under key
words so it is essential to pull out the
key/important aspects of your role and
list these
— An achievement focus is favorable as
highlights to your employers the results
of your work.
6
7. Update your contact info
This is a must!
— You want people to be able to reach out
to you and connect so make sure you
have up to date relevant information so
people can message you appropriately.
7
8. Personalize your URL
— A lot of people do not do this or don’t
know how to do it and is such a shame as
they are greatly missing out!
— LinkedIn automatically assigns a URL
when setting up your profile however by
personalizing it (I would recommend to
first name/surname) then you become
instantly more searchable.

9. Conclusion
A profile takes time to create and
constantly evolves so make sure it is up to
date and accurate, it is worth every moment
think of it this way, imagine if you were
going to work, you wouldn't go only half
dressed!
