1. Rules for Living with Chronic Pain

2. Most Important Thing!
• Pain is a physical symptom of suffering in your
whole MindBodySpirit system, your whole
self.
• Pain = reminder to check in. How are you
being in this moment?
3. Also Very Important
• The degree of pain does NOT equal the degree
of danger.
• Pain = take a breath and get a grip. Don’t
stress yourself out.
4. Keep in Mind
• Pain now does NOT mean pain later.
• Pain = bring your wandering mind back to the
present moment.
5. Hope for Change
• Do believe in healing.
• Pain = opportunity for self discovery and
growth.
6. Take Care
• Do stay active.
• Pain = freeze response in the body. Don’t stay
stuck.
7. Nourishment
• Do drink a lot of water.
• Pain = cry for help in some regard. Since we
are 75% water, something as simple as
dehydration can cause extreme body anxiety.
8. Mental Stuckness
• Do indulge in the moments when your pain is
gone or has decreased.
• Pain = mental fixation with prevention and
fear or aggravation.
9. Be Kind
• Do NOT talk shit on yourself.
• Pain = suffering don’t make it worse. You
aren’t broken!
10. Live
• Don’t use pain as an excuse to bail on
commitments, unless you really can’t get out
of bed.
• Pain = great excuse to avoid aspects of life you
do not enjoy.
11. Claim Your Power
• Don’t dote on yourself.
• Pain = a sense of victim hood.
12. Claim Your Truth
• Don’t accept the half-baked explanations that
keep you stuck.
• Pain = everyone has an opinion about what
you did wrong and the extent to which you
are capable of healing. Create healthy
boundaries around your beliefs.
