1. ● How exactly can artificial intelligence and analytics boost job creation in India?
Implementation of AI and robotics improved outputs when employees are trained in such a manner that
they themselves think creatively on how to deploy robots to improve productivity. Artificial Intelligence
improves the capabilities of the machine. However, it still requires humans to train the machine to ensure
it behaves as closely as humans. Artificial Intelligence can escalate to multiple levels, but there will always
be the need for for on-site, human skill and expertise when it comes to dealing with machines.
Software could have bugs and flaws which need updates. As we proceed to automating different areas of
work, we require more people with technical skills to maintain, replace, update and fix these systems and
their hardware. While AI can collate and analyse data, it can’t decide how a company or organisation
responds to that information. The decision-making process, hence, still rests in the hands of employees,
which will effectively boost the employability market.
● How are companies leveraging AI and analytics to impact job generation?
The simple role of AI and automation across various sector, where it is present or plans an entry and
expansion, is to ease human work. In some areas they perform the work which were earlier manually done.
However, this does not mean that there are no more jobs left for men. In fact, job creation becomes more
specific as the machines have to be trained continuously when new information arrives.
Enterprises such as Facebook, and closer home, Infosys and Wipro are re-training employees in next-gen
technologies such as self-driving car, engineering analytics, Customer Relation Mgmt, Fraud Detection etc..
AI & AR/VR and have unveiled internal initiatives to upskill employees. Amazon is on its way to become
one of the largest players in AI and analytics and has stepped into every possible field. Its key resource
being AI and data analytics where they are hiring more and more fresh minds. AI hardware leader NVIDIA
is also well-known for its Deep Learning and AI workshops.
In the service sector, jobs such as answering to a query, routine recommendations and searching for
information are performed by AI. But functions such as creativity, personal touch, innovation and critical
thinking continue to be in the hands of humans. This implies that there will be an upskilling of the existing
employees to enhance their skills. At the same time, new entrants in the industry will be trained in more
specific skills.
● Which sectors are the ones to be majorly benefited in terms of job creation as a result of adoption of
AI and analytics?
According to the leading research firm Gartner (2017), AI and automation will eliminate 1.8 million jobs, but
create 2.3 million new jobs by 2020. AI will improve the productivity of many jobs, eliminating millions of
middle- and low-level positions, but also creating millions more new positions of highly skilled, management
and even the entry-level and low-skilled variety. Hence, retail, pharma, agriculture, BSFI, manufacturing
and telecom sectors will be highly benefited by the adoption of AI and analytics. Marketing, finance, supply
chain and HR are some other industries where AI and analytics will be the game changers.
