Music Distribution...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
The Foundation of a Complete Distribution Portfolio!
Over the past 30 years, Sugo Music Group has built cutting-edge delivery systems for music licensors, labels
and artists around the world. We were one of the first to integrate digital and physical distribution, recognizing
the importance of distributing across all channels and formats—all with superior asset management protocol.
Whether it’s a full length on iTunes and Amazon, a stream on Deezer and Rhapsody, an MPL placement for
film and TV, a UGC track and CiD on YouTube or a ringtone through Nokia and Telefonica, we supply
hundreds of outlets around the world through our proprietary Delivery & Operations Database (DOD). We’ve
distributed music products through every imaginable channel: music stores, gift shops, big box retailers,
wholesalers, TV, Internet and mobile. Most importantly, we pride ourselves on keeping abreast of the ever-
changing entertainment landscape: technology, social media, hardware, legal rulings, RIAA, distributors,
collection agencies, labels, artists, music trends and more.
Building Long-Term Relationships for Our Label Partners
Sugo Music Group has established relationships and partnerships with the top online and mobile retailers,
aggregators and distributors in the world. We fine tune and expand these affiliations on a daily basis to ensure
that your audio masters are being delivered to listeners, viewers and industry professionals in as many territories
as possible. Unlike other distributors which might only submit your music to a handful of retailers (and might
also charge up-front annual fees to do so), Sugo Music Group will assure that your Masters will be available,
accessible and beheld by consumers throughout the world. We have developed significant outreach programs to
thousands of industry partners—including sub-licensees, music supervisors for film and TV, advertising and
commercial agencies, sync brokers, monetization brokers, sub-publishers, video game licensees, broadcasters,
performance rights organizations, distributors, retailers, labels and more. We might be able to secure overseas
Master Use Licensing deals with various regional distribution companies, and we qualify emerging online and
mobile outlets on a daily basis. In addition, our international mobile telecom database is growing every year, for
both mobile download and streaming services.
Why Us?
Our company was founded in 1983 by artists, musicians and savvy business entrepreneurs. From the first day in
the office, we decided to build our business acumen from the proverbial “one brick at a time” premise. Today,
after 30 years of research, development, implementation and expansion, we firmly stand behind our philosophy
of providing complete distribution portfolio solutions for our label partners. Get plugged In! Contact us today!

Radio Airplay...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
Radio Airplay Overview
Over the past 5 years, we’ve witnessed a significant increase in digital radio broadcasts. This increase is
triggered by new hardware, new DMS providers, consumer preferences and emerging territories. As a result,
our Label Partner’s broadcast royalties have skyrocketed, yet it has not been “a snap of the fingers”. Each
broadcaster, whether it’s Pandora, Sirius XM, Spotify, iRadio, Deezer or Beats Music, requires proper content
protocol, A&R expertise, meticulous metadata management, and insightful territory know-how! Our Radio
Ingestion Team listens and hand-assembles every master we receive to ensure that each track is delivered with
100% effectiveness. It’s time to get your music assets prepared for the future. Soon, Digital Radio royalties will
surpass both digital album downloads and digital track downloads (see below).
The Emerging Streaming Radio Marketplace
Sugo Music Group has established relationships with all of the top Internet, mobile, satellite and cable broadcast
providers. Revenues generated by master performance radio streams are increasing every day. For instance,
Internet radio is now responsible for nearly 80% of listening hours. In addition, nearly 70% of digital radio
usage now comes from the mobile market. This type of usage is not just from smart phones. You can access
many internet radio brands from hundreds of different devices, including cars, countertop devices, alarm clocks,
apps and more. In addition, apps have been the single largest growth driver for Internet radio in the past few
years and the phenomenon has a lot of room for growth. Substantial engineering efforts have been put forth by
all the major Internet, mobile and satellite radio companies to bring the service to hundreds of different devices.
Sugo Music Group guarantees that your music will be broadcasted across the existing and emerging digital
radio eco-system!
Not a Few Radio Stations … How About All of Them?
Music distributors only deliver to a subset of major radio stations and broadcasters. There’s a reason for this: all
music distributors are automated. Automation is not a bad thing. In fact, we use automation for certain services
as well. Yet we realized early on that to deliver a complete broadcasting package, much of the work needed to
be done by hand because it was the only way to get it done right! There was no way around it. You cannot cut
corners and hope for the best. If you want music delivered to every major radio broadcaster, it mandates both
manual labor and automation. Over the past 10 years, our business development team has been solidifying
partnerships with all major radio broadcasters, brokers and agents. We are the only distributor that provides a
complete broadcasting package, including Pandora, SiriusXM, Spotify, iRadio, Deezer, Google Play and many
more!
4
What Is a Complete Broadcasting Package?
Early on we realized that the only way to provide a complete broadcast package for our label partners was to
dedicate a lot of time, effort and resources to the service. Because many of the top broadcasters such as
Pandora, and SiriusXM—and even in-store media broadcasters such as Mood Media, Stingray, Music Choice
and Play Network—do not accept automated submissions, we needed to dedicate an ongoing team of workers to
prepare each product for manual submission. That’s right! The only way to get it done right was by real
people—one album, one song and one artist at a time. This process does not utilize bulk uploads with one-click
transmissions. In fact, the most successful broadcasters still use “old-school” methods and demand that all
music be delivered by traditional methods. It’s true: Pandora and SiriusXM still require CD submissions to get
your music approved and available for broadcast. That’s right! And in those cases our ingestion team actually
burns CDs on your behalf and mails them to such providers—all at no extra charge. That’s right! Get plugged in

Synchronization...GET PLUGGED IN!
Your Music Should Be in the Movies!
Have you ever wondered if your music could be licensed for film, TV, commercials and advertisements? Well,
it should be, and Sugo Music Group can help! Through the years, we have meticulously fostered relationships
with the largest synchronization aggregators in the world, and we also work with a multitude of independent
sync agents, brokers, music supervisors and film editors. In addition, we have an executive enterprise
relationship with Rumblefish, the leading synchronization aggregator. Music “Sync” Licensing is time-intensive
work, yet when your music is finally placed, it not only generates significant revenue, but also champions the
word about your brand, artists and creative talent.
What Is Synchronization?
The use of music in film, TV, video and webcast production involves two aspects of copyright law:
synchronization rights and performance rights. Performance Rights come into play when a production is shown
to the public, typically via broadcast or cablecast. Performance rights are primarily of concern to film
distributors and TV and cable stations. Synchronization, or “sync” rights, in contrast, are involved whenever
recorded music is used in combination with visual images in a production. Sugo Music Group manages both
your Performance Rights and Sync Rights portfolio for any and all broadcasts. Since the use of music in film,
TV, video and webcast is not covered by the compulsory license provisions of the Copyright Act, sync licenses
for these uses must be negotiated on an individual basis with each broadcast affiliate.

Choose the Right Partner!
About: Sugo Music Group is a pioneer in music licensing and has been a trusted provider of music for top TV
shows, major Hollywood films, commercials and video games for over two decades.
Objective: Artists and labels are our priority, and we’ve paid consistent royalties to copyright owners for the
licensed usage of their music. Our goal for both label partners and artists is to connect their music with as many
interesting projects and creators as possible, charge a fair price and pay a fair royalty.
Make More Money: With Sugo Music Group, your songs are made available for placement with a wide array
of sync opportunities, including businesses, websites and applications. Licensing music has the potential to
generate new revenue streams for owners of sound recordings and compositions.
Channels: Sugo Music Group ensures that your music not only is available for film, TV, video games and
commercials, but also is licensable for the unlimited amount of user generated YouTube videos. The demand
for independent music in existing and emerging video channels has exploded recently, and it’s increasing every
month—see below.
YouTube: Hundreds of millions of people are uploading videos, photos and all sorts of user generated content.
We’ll track and monitor when your recordings are being used on YouTube for videos (e.g., online videos,
presentations, photo slideshows, etc.) and collect licensing fees and ad placement revenue for those usages. This
is called Content Identification (CiD), aka User Generated Content (UCG). No matter who is using your music,
we’ll monitor the usage and collect payments on your behalf!
Searchability: Sugo Music Group will “tag” all your sound recordings with metadata attributes, including
genre, mood, tempo, date added, primary instrument, etc., so that your recordings and songs are easily found by
music supervisors, video editors, film houses, agents and brokers around the world.
Experience and Partners: Sugo Music Group is proud to be licensing music to some of the most diversified
companies and creative business professionals on the planet. The next wave of licensing for social media, ads,
film and TV promises to be the most interesting yet.
The Time Is Now: Contact us today, and we’ll show you how your music can be licensed and synchronized for
video, motion pictures and the television industry. Get plugged in with Sugo Music Group!
SUGO MUSIC GROUP is now Celebrating 30 Year Anniversary!
We’ve built our distribution business on four cornerstones of industry excellence: premium service,
uncompromising quality, unquestionable integrity, and great results. Over the past 30 years, our team here at
Sugo Music Group has distributed, sold and manufactured every type of music media: digital, CDs, cassette &
vinyl. We’ve distributed music products through every imaginable channel: internet, mobile, satellite, cable,
music stores, gift shops, big box retailers, licensees and wholesalers. Most importantly, we pride ourselves on
keeping abreast of the ever-changing entertainment landscape: technology, social media, hardware, RIAA and
legislation, distributors, collection agencies, labels, artists, music trends and more.

Complete Distribution Portfolio
Through all of this we’ve discovered that not one single distributor provides a complete music distribution
portfolio. Most, if not all, distributors offer basic services such as a handful of Internet retailers, a fraction of
available mobile retailers, a few radio broadcasters and little or nothing else.
Most music distributors offer:
 LIMITED digital distribution
 NO major radio stations such as Pandora and SiriusXM
 NO significant film and TV synch services
 NO sub-licensing agreements
 NO album compilations
 NO video placements
 NO compact disc manufacturing and more…
Sugo Music Group delivers the total package:
 YES—All digital music stores
 YES—Pandora, SiriusXM and all major broadcasters
 YES—Major film, TV, games and commercial synch providers
 YES—International sub-licensee affiliates
 YES—New album compilations
 YES—Video distribution and monetization
 YES—Manufactured CDs
 YES—In-store media broadcasters
 YES—All Content Identification and User Generated Content tracking
 YES—Social Media promotions, Digital Music Marketing, and Online Music Promotion services
 YES—All Performance Rights Collection Agencies
Built from the Ground Up
Sugo Music Group is a full-service music & multimedia distributor and one of the top music publishing
companies in the world. We ensure that your content will be delivered, registered, formatted, monetized and
protected throughout the world—all with leading industry experience and personalized customer care. Our
distribution roster features artists, labels, licensors, audio libraries, and 30 years of distribution, publishing and
licensing excellence. We’ve traveled the world to discover some of the most inspirational music and multimedia
archives of our time, including Grammy winners, platinum sellers, and some of the most respected artists in the
industry today! Our products are currently delivered to up to 120 countries and we service all major online sites
and mobile carriers. Our company was founded in 1983 by artists, musicians and a savvy business
entertainment team—and was built from the ground up. To this day, we still study the ever-changing music
landscape, still research the newest trends, and still deeply care for our partners’ assets.
We do not accept all submissions. Yes, we are selective, which means that your music will be distributed by
real people… with real ears, hands, minds, hearts and the utmost integrity. Welcome to Sugo Music Group.

Switch Your Distributor or Choose Our A-La-Carte Service Menu!
Sugo Music Group will assist you in changing your current distribution package over to our distribution
network or you can choose our A-La-Carte Service Menu. Yes, that’s right! It’s always a more seamless process
to switch your entire distribution over to one account—and it’s a lot easier than you may think. Often times it’ll
take less than a week. That said, some content owners may prefer our A-La-Carte menu whereas you can
choose services which your current distributor is not offering. For instance, if you need global performance
rights registration and collections (ASCAP, BMI, Sound Exchange and global PRO’s) or if you want your
master tracks licensed onto other albums (for increased exposure and revenue) or possibly synchronization (film
& TV), content identification (YouTube & the Internet) or a more robust radio streaming portfolio, just contact
us and we’ll set you up using our A-La-Carte Service!
Innovation Prevails
Sugo Music Group was the first to integrate digital and physical distribution, recognizing the importance of
distributing across all channels and formats—all with superior asset management protocol. Whether it’s an
album download on iTunes or Amazon, a stream on Deezer or Rhapsody, a production music library placement
for film or TV, a UGC track or CiD on YouTube, or a ringtone through Nokia or Telefonica, we supply
hundreds of outlets around the world through our proprietary Delivery & Operations Database (DOD). With 30
years of experience, our team will help you sell music online the right way!
We Do the Work for You
There are a number of reasons why other distributors will not offer a complete music distribution portfolio. The
primary reason is that most distributors are automated.
With other distributors:
 YOU are required to upload your music
 YOU are required to upload your art
 YOU are required to upload your metadata
 YOU are required to pay submission and account fees.
This is not the case with Mervilton Records/Sugo Music Group:
 WE do not charge you any fees for setting up your account
 WE do not charge fees for your music submissions
 WE monetize, register, and safeguard your music
 WE listen to your music to ensure proper placement
 WE provide the ‘one and only’ complete music distribution portfolio in the industry today

Have Distribution Questions? We Have Answers!
QCan’t I just contact digital download sites myself to get my music out there?
A:Yes you can, of course, yet there are hundreds of sites and new sites emerge on a monthly, weekly and
sometimes on a daily basis. Most of these sites are international and can be difficult to communicate with
relevant to language barriers, time zones and such. Sugo Music Group provides a one-stop global solution for
all major digital retailers, digital distribution companies, audio video distributors and channels, and various
music distribution services. This way you can tend to other important responsibilities—like creating music or
promoting your artists!
QTo where does Sugo Music Group distribute? Where in the world are the retailers and stores located? Do you
service all online music distribution companies?
A:Sugo Music Group distributes to every qualified retailer, distributor, region and country in the world.
New territories are emerging and new digital distribution deals are being secured as we speak. Regarding
outlets, well, quite a few… OK, here’s some, yet don’t tell anybody!

QWhat if I am already working with a distributor and my music is already on digital download sites, but I want
to make a switch to Sugo Music Group?
A:It’s actually more simple than you might think. It’s often just a matter of “flipping the switch” on your
current distributor’s website or contacting your distributor directly to terminate your agreement. Also remember
that we are the only distributor offering A-La-Carte distribution services! If you already have a distribution deal
in place, no problem. Just let us know and we’ll fill in the gaps! Either way, we can help—just contact us.
QDo I need to own the rights to my music?
A:Yes, you need to either own, control or administer the master sound recording rights in order to sign a
distribution agreement with any distributor—especially with us. It’s OK if you did not write any of the songs on
your music albums or in your archive, but you must have authority to license the master audio recordings for us
to provide universal music distribution for your works.
QHow long does it take for my music to go live in the stores?
A:Sugo Music Group is known for having the fastest turnaround time for any major music distributor.
Depending on the size of your archive and how much processing we need to take on, the time can range
from one week to four weeks.
QHow do I get my music and information to you and secure digital music distribution?
A:First, please contact us by email by filling out the “Contact Us” form in the right sidebar of this page.
Once an agreement is in place, you will be able to send your files in several different ways. Typically label
partners simply upload files to our secure FTP site, or sometimes they choose to send us a hard drive. Either
way is fine. We’ll always send a Welcome Package to you via email and guide you through the process. We’ve
simplified the process in a way that will help set up your account with us with minimal effort.
QWhat if I don’t have physical CDs of my music?
12
A:That’s perfectly fine. Many licensors do not manufacture CDs these days and focus solely on online audio
distribution. Digital files are preferred anyway. Our Welcome Package will explain it all. Also, if you want, we
can produce and manufacture CDs for you using our CD On-Demand system.
QCan I still sell my music on my site?
A:Sure, that’s fine! Sugo Music Group’s mission is to provide a Complete Distribution Portfolio for each of
our label partners. This is an ongoing commitment. Figuring out how to distribute music is an art form and takes
years of practice, just like practicing your music for live performances. Our distribution networks and delivery
systems are monitored, reviewed and refined on a daily basis. It is important that all of our label partners are
successful and thriving. If you want to sell your music on your site—CDs or downloads—we completely
support those efforts. It is important to us that this is a win-win situation for both parties!
QWhen will I receive royalties?
A:We send statements and royalty payments out to you on a quarterly basis. We’ll send your statements via
email, and your royalty checks can be by mail or direct deposit—you choose.
QWhat if I submit a cover song?
A:Cover songs are great! In fact, some of the most successful songs that we distribute, relevant to
downloads and streams, are cover songs. Cover songs are an easy way to attract new audiences and to expand
your fan base, demographics and psychographics. We will even handle all the third party composer/publishing
payments for you.
QWhat if I find a mistake associated with one of my songs/albums on a download site or if I want to remove a
song down from a site?
A:That’s fine and it happens occasionally. Just contact us, and we’ll fix it or, we’ll take it down for you.
What is streaming radio airplay?
A:There are two primary ways to deliver audio these days: downloads and streaming. In downloads, an
audio file is stored on the user’s computer. Streaming audio is not stored, only played. In the early days of
streaming media—the mid-to-late 1990s—listening to music online wasn’t always fun. It was a little like
driving in stop-and-go traffic during a heavy rain. Streaming audio (and video) has come a long way since then.
The success of streaming media is fairly recent, but the idea behind it has been around as long as people have.
When someone talks to you, information travels toward you in the form of a sound wave. Your ears and brain
decode this information, allowing you to understand it. This is also what happens when you watch TV or listen
to the radio. Information travels to an electronic device in the form of a cable signal, a satellite signal or radio
waves. Your device decodes and plays the signal.
13
Do I really need radio airplay or radio music promotion? Don’t radio broadcasts erode my download revenue?
A:Yes and no! Yes, you need radio play for numerous reasons. No, it is industry consensus that streaming
does NOT erode download revenue. This is so because people listen to streaming digital radio because they are
in a “listening mode,” not necessarily a “purchasing mode”. At that moment, a person is not visiting a download
store and trying to buy downloads; instead that person is engaged with a radio station and simply trying to listen
to music. Thus, if content owners (i.e. music labels and artists) do not offer their music to digital radio stations,
they are missing out on two vital benefits. First, they are missing out on exposure, radio music promotion, viral
marketing, brand building, artist awareness, etc. Second, many digital radio stations provide a “Buy” button that
listeners can click to purchase the corresponding track to which they are listening; thus content owners are also
missing out on potential downloads that were originated by the radio stream. In conclusion, it is a widely
accepted fact that streaming encourages more downloads.
Are you actually saying that the fractions of pennies I’ll earn from each digital radio stream are worth it?
A:Yes, absolutely. Think of it this way: First, streaming radio is trending worldwide at a high rate of
consumption and is affordable for almost everyone. It will be available in most countries, for most people and at
a cost-effective consumer rate—and it’s becoming widely available in cars! Think about that for a moment.
Second, if your music is not available on digital radio stations, then you are simply missing out on ancillary
revenue, as well as incremental free radio music promotions. Third, and most important, when someone
downloads your music, it is typically a one-time purchase, which is fine … sort of. In contrast with digital radio,
someone can listen to that same recording hundreds or maybe thousands of times along the way. The
incremental revenue earned from multiple streams can outdistance downloads in many cases.
To what radio stations does Sugo Music Group distribute?
A:Sugo Music Group distributes to all major and secondary radio stations on Internet, mobile, satellite and
cable channels. We even distribute to broadcasters that are difficult to reach and require significant time and
effort to do so such as SiriusXM, Deezer, rDio, Slacker and especially Pandora! The following is a list of our
primary radio stations and radio aggregators. Keep in mind that some of these affiliates are larger international
companies with numerous stations within their database: 24/7, Aspiro, Beats Music, Deezer, FNAC Direct,
Google, iTunes Radio, JbHifiMusic, LaLa, Last-FM, MediaNet, Microsoft Zune Music, MOG, MusicLoad,
MUZ.RU CJSC, Myspace, Napster, Neowiz Bugs, NMusic, Omnifone, Pandora, rDio, Rhapsody, simfy GmbH,
SiriusXM, Slacker, Spotify, Synacor, Telus, Turntable.fm, Verizon, WE7, Xbox Music, Zune/Xbox Music, and
more.
QHow long will it take to get radio airplay and get my music accepted on these stations?
A:Typically we will have your music prepped and delivered within 30 days, depending on the size and
condition of your archive. In some instances, we’ve had music up and broadcasted within a week or even a few
days. Other stations such as Pandora and SiriusXM are different (they are not automated), and thus our delivery
protocol is manual. Also, Pandora and SiriusXM reserve the rights to accept or reject all submissions—yes, they
are picky! That said, we have a good success rate with our manually delivered submissions.
14
Tell me how to get music copyrighted, how to copyright songs, and how to copyright music online.
A:First, let’s start with some important info regarding US copyright. Copyright law defines much of the
music business, influencing the practices of recording, touring and distribution deals. Congress understands the
importance of the music business, passing and amending copyright laws for decades to help manage the music
industry. Still, many artists have very little information regarding copyright and rely on knowledge about laws
that have changed dramatically through the years. Keep in mind that “song” copyright is distinct from the
“sound recording” copyright. As a rule, the sound recording can be thought of as the “master” (the recorded
performance of the song). That said, registration is not required for a valid copyright. That’s right! You actually
do not need to register your copyright with the United States Copyright Office in order to have a valid
copyright. You have a valid copyright as soon as your song or sound recording is “fixed in a tangible medium
of expression”. This is a term used by the Copyright Act and means that your song or sound recording must be
recorded (e.g. released on CD, digital stores, YouTube, etc.). While not mandatory, physical copyright
registration of published music or recordings still has some benefits such as filing a lawsuit to enforce the
copyright or receiving statutory damages. Getting your music copyrighted (masters and songs) by simply
recording and distributing them is important, yet accurately registering them with “master” Performance Rights
Organizations and “song” Performance Rights Organizations are imperative! Contact us and we’ll evaluate your
assets and get set you up the right way.
QHow often will I receive these royalties?
A:All your streaming royalties will be included in your statement along with your download sales and other
revenues generated. We send statements and royalty payments out to you on a quarterly basis. We’ll send your
statements via email, and your royalty checks can be by mail or direct deposit—you choose.

it not only generates significant revenue, but also champions the word about your brand, artists and creative
talent.
What Is Synchronization?
Music licensing for film, TV, video and webcast production involves two aspects of copyright law:
synchronization rights and performance rights. Performance Rights come into play when a production is shown
to the public, typically via broadcast or cablecast. Performance rights are primarily of concern to film
distributors and TV and cable stations. Synchronization, or “sync” rights, in contrast, is involved whenever
recorded music is used in combination with visual images in a production.

Music licensing has the potential to
generate new revenue streams for owners of sound recordings and compositions.
QWhat is Sync Licensing?
A:See above. A Synchronization, or “sync,” right is when recorded music is used in combination with visual
images in a production. Since the use of music in film, TV, video, game, webcast or other various entertainment
and business usages is not covered by the compulsory license provisions of the Copyright Act, sync licenses for
these uses must be negotiated on an individual basis with each broadcast affiliate.
QWhy should I license my music?
A:Licensing your music for various means (e.g., downloads, radio play, synchronization, etc.) is the primary
strategy to generate revenue. Think of your music as a product that needs to be brought to the public’s eye
through marketing and distribution and that numerous channels of distribution act as vehicles to transport your
product to the public. Licensing your music for film, TV and other synchronization applications is one of those
channels.
QHow much money will I make?
A:Licenses range from $100 for small website usages to $50,000 for major motion picture placements. The
amount depends on the type of placement. The best way to look at it is to set up a robust sync portfolio with as
many tracks and as many placements as possible—with the best distributor. This is where Sugo Music Group
can definitely help. We’ll build your metatag docket for all of your tracks and submit and expose those masters
to the right agents and brokers.
16
QHow much does SMG charge for this service?
A:Synchronization deals are always split 50/50. You, the licensor, receive half of the revenue, and Sugo
Music Group, the licensee, receives the other half.

Have Distribution Questions? We Have Answers!
Let’s Get Started!
For most music labels, content owners, recordings artists and songwriters, initial success almost always comes
from activity within their respective territory or country. Downloads, digital radio, television, Internet
performances, album sales (both physical sales and downloads), sync licenses for songs in films, television,
video games, and advertising commercials are the typical applications. All of these methods and channels can
generate royalties—sometimes large, as in the case of a hit song, good-selling compilation album or television
theme, and other times minimal, as in the case of a webcast performance or small one-time usages.
A Shot Heard Around the World!
But what happens when your audio recording or song is licensed by a licensee in a foreign territory—say, in
Taiwan, Ireland, South Africa, USA or any other country, for that matter? How will royalties be collected, and
by whom? What do you have to do to get paid? Those are the questions you need answers to when dealing with
any activity in the foreign marketplace. The good news is that Sugo Music Group specializes in Global Sub-
Licensing. See below.
Your Complete Distribution Portfolio
Global Sub-Licensing is often ignored, yet there are many foreign music licensing opportunities and it helps
round out your Complete Distribution Portfolio. We are proud to announce that new distribution partners have
joined our expanding distribution database in various emerging territories including China, India, Philippines
and Taiwan. Although we control the majority of our international distribution efforts from our U.S. base
operations and affiliates, our sub-licensing partners and new emerging music licensing companies and agents
also will help promote, distribute and sell your music through strategic, ancillary channels.
Not Cut from the Same Cloth
Each territory has its own procedures, policies and laws governing the licensing, performance and sale of music
in its territory—and this affects how to license your music abroad. In addition, every country has its own
collection societies for the negotiation, collection and distribution of performance and mechanical monies—for
both copyright owners and writer and publishing registrants. These foreign collection societies and
organizations have payment rules very different from those in your territory or in the U.S.—in addition to
sometimes taking significant deductions from royalties of master owners, writers and publishers prior to
statements and payments. Some of these societies are very transparent, whereas others are not.
17
Our Foreign Collection Society Partners
Sugo Music Group collects on Global Sub-Licensing efforts in two ways: a) Master Use Licensing and b)
Performance Royalties. Sugo Music Group negotiates Master Use licenses for the usage of the master sound
recording. In addition, we will also register and collect royalties for the public broadcast performances of both
your master and your original songs! Though most songwriters receive modest or little royalties for their songs
performed outside the U.S., successful writers can make millions of dollars over the life of a song for foreign
country performances and sales. To give an example of the type of monies being collected, in 2009 over $600
million was forwarded to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC for foreign performances of U.S. works. Most of the
money is writer money as many publishers collect their money directly from each foreign collection society. As
to individual activity, a major worldwide hit song can generate well over $1,000,000 in foreign radio and
television performance monies, with a blockbuster feature film generating in excess of $500,000 composer
royalties for foreign theatrical (movie theatre) performances alone during the initial year of activity. Putting
these high-end figures aside, it is important to know that tens of thousands of U.S. copyright owners, writers
and publishers receive between $1 and $100,000 in foreign royalties each year for performances of their works
on radio and television stations, live performances and website transmissions, among many other types of uses.
Never forget: real success is worldwide, and you need to know how the business works outside of your territory.
Welcome to Sugo Music Group. We’ll help you get it done! Get plugged in!
QWhat is sub-licensing?
A:See above. Global Sub-Licensing is one of the more important services we offer and helps round out your
Complete Distribution Portfolio. Although a significant portion of our international distribution efforts is based
from our U.S. headquarters, we also work with our foreign sub-licensing partners to help promote, distribute
and sell your music through strategic, ancillary channels in their respective territories.
QWhy should I sub-license my music?
A:Sub-licensing should be an integral part of every distribution portfolio. Most, if not all, music distributors
do not provide Global Sub-Licensing services and solutions. They don’t because they are 100% automated.
Automated services have some benefits, yet they also have limitations. Global Sub-Licensing can be time
consuming and require extra resources, yet once your music is licensed into a foreign territory with one of our
affiliate partners, then your assets can be professionally marketed in ancillary channels that we cannot oversee
from our U.S.-based headquarters.
QWhat do you charge for this service?
A:There are no additional charges, fees, charge-backs, etc. This is a win-win situation for both of us. We’ve
been working with international licensing affiliates for 30 years now. From day one, we were setting up
vinyl and cassette manufacturing and unique production deals in international territories. Years later, we set up
CD manufacturing and various synchronization deals. Currently we manage digital asset ingestion with our
foreign partners, yet some partners still like to manufacture CDs as well.
Q
18
How can I guarantee my music is protected?
A:Sugo Music Group works with some of the most respected licensees in the industry. Although many of
our partners have been around for decades, we still interview, qualify and sign on new potential partners when
applicable.
QCan I copyright music online for foreign territories?
A:Most countries have copyright laws similar to those in the USA or in your own territory. If your work is
protected in your territory, it will also be protected in most other territories under the local laws. International
copyright treaties require certain minimum protections and enforcement of copyright law for artists.
International collection agencies operate under the principal of “national treatment,” meaning foreign societies
administer the rights in their territories in the same way as they treat their own members’ works. Use of your
music overseas is however subject to the laws and policies of each society in question. If you wish to copyright
your music online, it’s fairly simple. For example only, the US Copyright Office encourages users to file
electronically. Registration should be done on Form-CO. This form is used for both the “composition” and the
“sound recording”. The cost of filing is $35.00 for electronic filing or $45.00 for paper filing. Paper filing takes
the Copyright Office significantly longer to complete. With this in mind, Sugo Music Group is a full-service
global distributor and rights management company and we will register and distribute your musical works
around the world and in up to 120 countries. We work closely with all Performance Rights Organizations to
ensure that your music is not only copyrighted through our distribution system, yet also we will accurately
register and manage your masters and songs with global Performance Rights Organizations and collection
agencies. Contact us and get started!
Q
When will I get paid?
A:We send statements and royalty payments on a quarterly basis.

songs embodied on recorded music masters, such as CDs or digital downloads, paid by the Harry Fox Agency
and the American Mechanical Rights Agency in the U.S.; b) Performance Royalties, which are collected and
paid by a Performing Rights Organization (PRO) such as SESAC, BMI, ASCAP or PRS and are paid to the
PRO by radio stations and other entities that broadcast your songs; and c) Synchronization Royalties, which are
paid when your songs are used in a film or television soundtrack. Sugo Music Group will ensure proper
registration, negotiations and collections on your behalf.
Collection Societies
Sugo Music Group provides a consolidated global solution for the collection of song performance rights from
global Performing Rights Organizations for performances of works on radio, television, live concerts, websites,
airlines and more. Our PRO affiliates include:
Australasia: AMCOS; Australia: APRA; Belgium: SABAM; Brazil: UBC; Britain: MCPS; Canada: CMRRA
and SOCAN; Chile: SCD; Colombia: SAYCO; Denmark: KODA; Finland: TEOSTO; France: SACD and
SACEM; Hungaria: ARTISJUS; Germany: GEMA; Ireland: IMRO; Italy: SIAE; Japan: JASRAC;

QWhat is music publishing and what is a music publishing company?
A:The business of music publishing is concerned with developing, protecting and valuing music
compositions. The publishing business is diverse and demands a variety of skills. Music publishers play a vital
role in the development of new music and in taking care of the business side, allowing composers and
songwriters to concentrate on their creative work. A good publisher seeks out great music and great composers
and songwriters, supports composers and songwriters in the creative process, promotes their catalogues across a
variety of platforms, manages the business exploitation of the catalogues (including the registration of works
and the collection and onward payment of all due royalties) and generally seeks to protect and enhance the
value of their works with passion and professional commitment.
What are Performing Rights Organizations, and what do they do?
A:A Performing Rights Organization (or PRO) helps songwriters and publishers get paid for the usage of
their music by collecting one of the most important forms of publishing revenue: Performance Royalties. As a
songwriter, composer or lyricist, you’re owed what is called a “Performance Royalty” any time your music is
played on radio stations (terrestrial, satellite and Internet), used on TV shows or commercials or performed in
live venues. Those Performance Royalties are paid by radio stations, venues and TV networks to PROs such as
ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SOCAN (in Canada) and more (see above).
QWhat if I’m already registered with a Performing Rights Organization such as ASCAP, BMI or SESAC?
A:As a composer, you should be registered with a PRO in your territory. If you are not, then we can help. In
addition, you should seek a publisher who will help manage and exploit your catalog. This is where Sugo Music
Group’s publishing divisions can help.
23
What if I already have a music publishing company?
A:If you already have a music publishing company, you need to ask, “What is it doing for me and has it
secured any music publishing deals?” If the answer is “very little,” then you need to make a change. If you are a
composer and the publisher (all in one) or if you are a music label that has publishing rights of your artists’
songs and want to generate more revenues, then please contact us, and we’ll set you up the right way!
I need to know how to get music published with song publishing companies. Is it difficult? Can I do it myself?
A:When searching for music publishing companies, you’ll want to find one that has a lot of experience and
genuinely wants to protect the writer’s interest and property. Yet figuring out how to publish your music can
takes years, possibly decades, and that is valuable time that you could be putting towards your music and, well,
writing songs. The business of music publishing requires proper registration and worldwide tracking of when
the song is performed publicly through broadcasts and synchronization usages. How to get music published and
performed on radio, film, TV, commercials, businesses, and even the Internet is a vital component of your
Complete Distribution Portfolio. Contact us and we’ll help set you up the right way!
Do I retain rights to my music?
A:Yes, all composers under a publishing agreement with Mervilton Records/Sugo Music Group will retain
100% rights of their music. Period.

QWhat is In-Store Media?
A:You can experience how In-Store Media works by simply walking into almost every store or business
environment that plays music. Music, videos and other various multimedia are broadcasted within commercial
environments to provide a satisfying, inspiring and artistic ambience. For certain retailers, studies show that
playing the right music can increase sales up to 50%—and also creates supplementary revenue annuities for
artists!
QWhy should I make my music available to Sugo Music Group for In-Store Media?
A:In-store and other business broadcasts enable musicians, music labels, multimedia archives and content
owners to garner increased revenues while promoting your brand, bands and artists and garnering incremental
sales through supplemental music distribution services! Think of it as an actor or actress doing a voice-over or
having their photo in an advertisement. It’s just another way to increase your audience base, engage new fans,
promote your artwork, earn new royalties, and round out your Complete Distribution Portfolio.
QWho are Sugo Music Group’s retail business broadcasting partners?
A:Sugo Music Group works with the leading In-Store Media providers such as Mood Media, Play Network,
Stingray, Music Choice and Galaxie, among others. This is just another way that we differentiate ourselves
from our other distributors, another way how to license your music, and another way how to distribute music in
general within your Complete Music Distribution Portfolio.
QWhy can’t I just submit my music to stores myself?
A:Building enterprise relations with In-Store Media groups, formatting audio and metadata, and delivering
assets and quality control checks are a full-time job. Through the years, our In-Store Media division has
developed those relationships and systems. This allows you to do what you do best: creating and marketing your
music!

Content Identification...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
Overview
In today’s digital world, a growing number of authorized and unauthorized third party users make use of
copyrighted material every day. These might include the usage of your audio and audiovisual masters for
commercial and private applications (e.g. uploading audio and videos on social media sites for weddings,
corporate events, commercials or slide shows) in which your masters might be used with or without proper
authorization and licensing. Sugo Music Group and its CiD affiliates register, reformat, submit, monitor,
manage, monetize, collect revenue and provide Content Identification services on behalf of our label partners
using various technological means.
Day by Day
Sugo Music Group’s CiD department routinely monitors and monetizes multiple types of unlicensed User
Generated Content (UGC) uses of your music masters on social media websites, Internet broadcasters and
various other websites, as well as new technologies, channels and platforms that arise, whether now known or
existing in the future.
Watch What Happens: YouTube Content Identification
When Sugo Music Group identifies a match between your music recording and a video file on the Internet, we
then monetize that UGC video using various advertisement techniques. We serve as an intermediary between
artists and the people who might use an artist’s work for, say, a YouTube video. Every time a new video is
uploaded, it’s automatically compared against YouTube’s Content Identification library for a match. We
constantly monitor and update your musical works within YouTube’s ID library. If we find a match, we can
take one of three actions: remove the content, leave it alone or monetize the video. Typically we choose to
monetize the video because it generates incremental revenue that we collect on your behalf. It also expands your
broadcast portfolio. In some instances, when the video is not suitable, we will issue a takedown.
We’ll make Content ID simple for you—so you can start earning the money you deserve! Get plugged into
Content Identification … with Sugo Music Group!
QWhat is Content ID, and why does CiD exist?
A:Content ID is a technology that exists for a couple of reasons: a) it allows content providers to identify
when videos incorporate their content, and b) it allows revenue to be generated (and collected by Sugo Music
Group) by placing advertising next to content that has been included in the Content ID program and identified in
uploaded videos. This is just another way of how to sell music online through state-of-the-art digital music
distribution!
QWhy is CiD on YouTube so important?
A:Over 60 hours of new video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. That’s a lot of people who need
good tunes to match up with those crazy cat videos and glamorous wedding slideshows they’re posting.
27
QWhat’s the CiD process and do I need to do anything?
A:Sugo Music Group and its CiD affiliates will handle everything for you. We will format and deliver your
music to YouTube’s Content ID system and various other channels that are emerging. This is an important step
and must be done right. Then YouTube will scan your tracks with fingerprinting, watermarking and proprietary
algorithms and register an exact sonic “fingerprint” for each and every one of your songs into respective
databases. User Generated Content matches will then occur. We monitor the matches, monetize the videos and
collect revenue. From that point on, any time someone out there in the YouTube universe uploads a video that
uses one of your songs, you will make money from the ad revenue generated by that video. With Sugo Music
Group’s CiD program, you’ll get paid for the usage of your music on the Internet, especially YouTube, and is
another important way how to sell your music online.
QI’m still totally confused and don’t get Content ID because it’s really complicated.
A:Don’t worry, we totally understand. This stuff gets complicated really quickly, especially when dealing
with digital fingerprinting, watermarking, advanced Boolean search and data-basing algorithms! Don’t worry
because we’re here to help. The most important thing is to get it done … and get it done right. After your music
is entered into our CiD database, you’ll be collecting revenue that is legally and rightfully yours. This is just
another way how to market your music, how to promote your music, how to publish your music, and how to
build a Complete Distribution Portfolio. Contact us, and we’ll do our best to answer your questions quickly and
accurately.
Video Monetization...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
Your Video Network
Over the past five years we’ve developed a video distribution and monetization network that is one of the
largest in the world. Sugo Music Group manages hundreds of video channels within the Internet, YouTube and
social media sites. We have partnerships with the leading ad placement, content monetization, and audio video
distributors in the world. Together we supervise and monetize a growing network of channels on a daily basis.
The technology we are using is some of the most advanced in the world today for optimizing the monetization
process and is designed to yield the highest possible revenue cost per thousand impressions (CPM).
Monetize All Your Videos
Think of Sugo Music Group’s Video Monetization program as an annuity—a stipend where your revenue grows
with time and your brand garners significant exposure in a competitive digital marketplace. Our audiovisual
deployment team will provide full optimization, protection, processing and monetization on most major DMS
partner video sites. Sugo Music Group can add significant dollars to your royalty checks as a direct result of our
advertising sales and trafficking expertise for your videos—even if your videos are homemade, concert footage
or slideshows. Our video distribution services will add additional revenue streams to your portfolio.
28
Choose the Right Partner
There are alternate solutions for Video Monetization, yet they are not optimal. For instance, sites such as
YouTube use their advertising company for ad placements on video channels. YouTube’s sales team primarily
focuses on monetizing YouTube’s home page and top-level domains (e.g., Eminem’s video channel). Why? The
math is simple: the home page is worth $500K per day! Why would they sell used cars when they can have a
brand new Rolls Royce people are clamoring to buy? However, there is still a market for the remaining ad
inventory for smaller independent video channels like yours—and Sugo Music Group and our advertisement
partners know how to monetize it!
Costs and Time
Sugo Music Group and its Video Monetization affiliates will aggregate, segment and sell advertising inventory
around your content that we have licensed to the social media websites on the Internet. These websites, along
with our monetization partners, collect a revenue share on behalf of your content assets. We bear all of the
expenses out of our share, with no hidden fees or chargebacks to you. All revenues are tracked on a CPM basis,
and we meticulously report on how much money each one of your assets generates in each accounting period.
There is typically a nine-month lead time before your first reporting because we and our monetization partners
have to process your content, ingest it into the system, build your Content ID docket, distribute, manage the ad
inventory online, sell and traffic the ads and get paid by the advertisers.
Quality Control
You can rest assured that all advertising sold around your content must conform to family friendly guidelines.
You will never see ads for adult content, alcohol, tobacco, weapons or other products or services that are not
family friendly when working with Sugo Music Group. If you have video assets—however big or small—there
might be untapped potential revenue to be earned via proper exploitation. Join the Sugo Music Group’s team,
and we’ll take a look at what can be done! Get plugged in!
QCan you explain more simply what Video Monetization is?
A:Sure. First, we’ll help get your videos up onto, say, YouTube to start. Then our team will monetize each
video with several different ad placements: In-Stream Ads, In-Video Overlay Ads and/or Standard Banner Ads.
Consumers are accustomed to video ads throughout YouTube. For each stream that is viewed, you’ll generate
income.
QOK. Can you now explain in more detail what Video Monetization is and how your video distribution
services work? What are the revenue rates?
A:Rates can vary from $1 to as high as $300 per 1,000 views. The current payout CPM on average is about
$2.75 to $3.50 per 1,000 views (this is conservative). For channels and videos that develop higher viewership,
higher dollar ad values are sold—for example, $18 to $30 per 1,000 views for videos with 100,000 or more
29
views. If channels or videos go viral and exceed 800,000+ views, significantly higher “paid product placement”
ads are sold, and they can reach as high as $90 to $300 per 1,000 views.
QAre there different types or tiers of payout rates? Can you be more specific about these?
A:Three classifications of advertisement inventory are available:
Run of Content: Advertisers purchase ads targeted across the entire content network without regard to any
individual piece of category of content. These are generally direct response advertisers looking for performance.
The ads are often sold by advertising networks and exchanges. Rates are commonly around $1 CPM and consist
mostly of banner ads and sponsored links.
Run of Audience: Advertisers purchase video or display ads around content segmented into categories that
correspond to general audience appeal. An example could be “auto” or “basketball.” This inventory may be sold
by our advertising partner, the publisher or an affiliate. Rates are commonly $4 to $12 CMP for video preroll or
in video overlays.
Direct Sold: Brand advertises purchase premium: 15- and 30-second video prerolls (movie trailers, premium
commercials, etc.) directly from our advertising partner with stringent targeting and tracking requirements.
Rates are commonly $15+ CPM for video prerolls.
QWhy is your company better at this service than other companies?
A:Our video optimization process drives average monetization lift from 28% to near 90%—a 3x increase in
content available for monetization on these types of DMS channels. Our system strives to fill 100% of all
available inventories at the highest possible rate. Sugo Music Group and our monetization partners are
dedicated, on a daily basis, to actively growing this side of the business with significant opportunity to generate
additional revenues for you.
QCan I opt out of advertising at any time?
A:Yes, absolutely. Most, if not all, label partners choose to stay in the program because this service
increases overall earnings.

Group is an Enterprise Partner with Amazon’s On-Demand CD and DVD Manufacturing, Printing &
Distribution service. We provide an incomparable service that puts powerful new physical publishing options in
the hands of music labels, licensors and musicians, even as the world goes increasingly digital. If you are a
music label or a single artist, you now hold the option of having limitless physical CD/DVD inventory,
manufactured on demand, with no upfront costs and global distribution to anyone who orders it at
Amazon.com!
No Costs! No Inventory!
Typically, there are considerable up-front costs and various charges for this type of service, yet Sugo Music
Group offers all of our pre-production services for free. That’s right, free! We’ll handle a multi-track CD and
DVD from pressing to delivery. In other words, our service promises to remove nearly all of the risks of short-
run CD and DVD manufacturing, which can cost musicians hundreds or even thousands of dollars for discs that
rarely sell enough to cover expenses.
Complete Your Distribution Portfolio
Although physical music sales are decreasing and artists seeking to evolve to more of a digital model, there is
definitely life left in good old physical storage media, with a slight twist. Sugo Music Group’s On-Demand CD
and DVD Manufacturing, Printing & Distribution service is a great way to earn ancillary sales revenue while
satisfying consumers worldwide.
Our Mission
This unparalleled service has enabled Sugo Music Group to expand its primary business of helping music
labels and indie artists get digital distribution through online outlets such as iTunes, eMusic and Amazon MP3,
while competing directly with CDBaby—all with no extra costs or chargebacks. Yes, that’s right!
Be a part of Sugo Music Group and enjoy a Complete Distribution Portfolio, including CDs and DVDs! Get
plugged in … now!
QWhat is On-Demand Manufacturing?
A:Our On-Demand CD/DVD service provides consumers around the world the opportunity to buy your
music album or multimedia project on Amazon.com. Sugo Music Group’s On-Demand CD/DVD
Manufacturing & Virtual Inventory department will format your digital music and front cover art files and
provide a complete door-to-door service: production, formatting, pressing, handling and delivery. It’s perfectly
fine if you only need music CD manufacturing!
31
QHow much money will I make for each sale?
A:You will earn the same royalty rate per your licensing agreement with Sugo Music Group that you would
earn with our other services. You will not be charged any setup fees or additional costs. Only Amazon charges a
fee for their manufacturing and delivery.
QWhen will I get paid?
A:We send statements and royalty payments out to you on a quarterly basis. We’ll send your statements via
email, and your royalty checks can be sent by mail, PayPal or direct deposit—you choose.
QIf I am already manufacturing my CDs and DVDs, why would this benefit me?
A:That’s fine if you are already manufacturing CDs or DVDs. Many labels and artists still want to
manufacture short-run CDs/DVDs for their promotions, websites and gigs. Yet manufacturing for the global
community audience is another story. It takes time, commitment and human & cash resources to do so correctly.
These days, labels and artists are seeking creative methods of managing their cash flow, especially if they have
multiple albums, let alone an archive of hundreds of albums. This is a one-stop solution for consumer
distribution!
QIs it true that On-Demand Manufacturing can take a long time to confirm products?
A:Yes, On-Demand CD/DVD is a time-intensive project. Yet Sugo Music Group has an Enterprise
Partnership with Amazon.com, and we will have your products available and up & running more quickly than
anyone else!
QDo I need to get a UPC to work with On Demand Manufacturing?
A:Yes. We’ll supply the UPC for you—at no extra cost!

Album Compilations...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
What?
Compilation products are the single most effective way of how to promote your music, how to significantly
increase digital music distribution, how to sell your music online and to build a Complete Music Distribution
Portfolio.
Album Compilations is a general term used to refer to a music product made of up of songs not intended to be
seen as a single work. Compilation albums—frequently referred to as “comp(s)”—are often made up of tracks
by various artists, though they can sometimes feature a single artist, a collection of works from a music label or
targeted lifestyle themes. A comp can be a retrospective, greatest hits or a sampler of an artist’s career, a
collection of unreleased tracks or some combination of these. Comp tracks are usually collected according to a
common characteristic, such as popularity, genre, source or subject matter. Compilation albums may also
employ traditional product bundling strategies.
How?
Compilation products can be challenging to assemble because the production company that releases the comp
must secure permission from all of the parties involved. This can mean juggling demands of a long list of
publishers, labels and musicians, who sometimes have divergent interests. This fact is true even of single-artist
compilation albums for artists who have worked with more than one label over the course of their career. In
addition, there are graphic design work, metadata consistency, UPCs, quality control, audio level consistency,
promotions and more.
Why?
Compilations serve a purpose—especially now, during this digital era. Comps provide “pathways” for
consumers to discover and embrace the work of new and even established artists. For instance, with a 10-artist
targeted album compilation, each artist is exposed to 10x the potential consumer base as with a single-artist
album. Some of those artists might have a larger fan base as well, increasing the potential fan base
exponentially. In addition, when an artist is discovered on a compilation, then the consumer can easily discover
the artist’s original albums—whereas this form of album promotion and discovery would never have happened
without the compilation!
Who?
That said, Sugo Music Group has a dedicated product development and A&R department that works directly
with our label partners to ensure that the sound recording compilations are of the highest quality. Sugo Music
Group has produced thousands of compilations over the past 30 years and is highly regarded in the industry for
doing so. Currently we produce 100 album compilations per month. Through the years, Sugo Music Group has
created private label compilations for some of the most brand-conscious companies in the world such as Hard
Rock Hotel, National Geographic, Sharper Image, Starwood and Kimpton Hotels, Banana Republic, Pottery
Barn, Google, eBay, Discovery Channel, Bravo TV, and numerous more!
33
Common Types of Compilations:
Greatest Hits, Best Of or Singles collection albums—These are comps that gather together an artist’s or a
group’s best-known songs. If the artist or group continues to record, compilers commonly include one or more
previously unreleased tracks as an incentive for fans to buy the album, even if they already have the other
material on the compilation.
Single-Artist, Rarities or B-Side collections: These are albums compiled from radio sessions, songs performed
by an artist exclusively for a film soundtrack or collections that combine multiple releases. Such compilations
generally target existing fans of the artist and have diminished mainstream appeal.
Various Artist-Themed compilations: These comps could be love songs, Christmas songs, etc. featuring a
particular instrument (such as saxophone or piano), and countless other variations.
Various Genre-Themed compilations: e.g. jazz, synth-pop, rock, etc. These might be from the same time
period (year, decade or era, for example), or incorporate a common theme.
Various Artist Hit compilations: This has been a very successful part of the album market since the early
1970s. Hit singles are gathered together on one comp.
Promotional compilations or samplers: These are creative, successful forms of promotion for artists and/or
record labels to promote their music.
Private Label promotional compilations: Promotional compilation CDs can be private labeled for products,
retail outlets, commercial organizations or non-profit organizations. Some artists and labels like to co-brand
themselves with well-known brands for marketing purposes, and transversely, well-known brands like to co-
brand themselves with artists.
Composer/Producer albums: Many hip-hop and reggaeton producers will release a compilation album that
features various artists, but with each track composed by the same producer.
Join the Sugo Music Group and contact us today. See how Album Compilations will round out your Complete
Distribution Portfolio! Get plugged in!
34
QSomeone told me a long time ago that compilations will dilute my original album sales. Is that true?
A:That might have been true a long time ago, yet the industry consensus is that compilations ONLY benefit
music labels and artists here in the digital era. Comps will dramatically increase your overall sales revenue,
your exposure, your popularity and also the amount of channels in which your music can be available.
QWhat do you mean when you say that compilations will increase the amount of channels available to me?
A:An artist’s album has the potential to be available for many different types of channels and markets:
broadcast (Pandora, SiriusXM, etc.), territory sub-licensees and sub-distributors (Canada, India, USA, Japan,
etc.), production libraries (Rumblefish, APM, etc.) and more. Yet some of these entities are choosey. In fact,
each entity could reject your original album—it happens every day. For instance, Pandora accepts only a small
amount of submissions—definitely not 100% (more like 30%). Targeted album compilations increase your
chances of acceptance. Recent example: We submitted works from one of our label partners to various
licensees and sub-licensees, and almost none of their works were accepted. We were not discouraged, and
instead we created and submitted multiple “best of,” “artistic,” “genre-based” and “thematic” compilations of
the label’s works. the licensees selected most of these new compilations because they were targeted and
individually prepared by our experienced A&R staff for those specific channels.
QDoes it cost me any money for you to make compilations or to include my music on various compilations?
A:No, we do not charge any additional fees, charge-backs or any sort of added-on costs. We are the only
company in the world—that we know of—that produces quality compilations for our label partners!

  • 2. 2 Music Distribution...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION The Foundation of a Complete Distribution Portfolio! Over the past 30 years, Sugo Music Group has built cutting-edge delivery systems for music licensors, labels and artists around the world. We were one of the first to integrate digital and physical distribution, recognizing the importance of distributing across all channels and formats—all with superior asset management protocol. Whether it’s a full length on iTunes and Amazon, a stream on Deezer and Rhapsody, an MPL placement for film and TV, a UGC track and CiD on YouTube or a ringtone through Nokia and Telefonica, we supply hundreds of outlets around the world through our proprietary Delivery & Operations Database (DOD). We’ve distributed music products through every imaginable channel: music stores, gift shops, big box retailers, wholesalers, TV, Internet and mobile. Most importantly, we pride ourselves on keeping abreast of the ever- changing entertainment landscape: technology, social media, hardware, legal rulings, RIAA, distributors, collection agencies, labels, artists, music trends and more. Building Long-Term Relationships for Our Label Partners Sugo Music Group has established relationships and partnerships with the top online and mobile retailers, aggregators and distributors in the world. We fine tune and expand these affiliations on a daily basis to ensure that your audio masters are being delivered to listeners, viewers and industry professionals in as many territories as possible. Unlike other distributors which might only submit your music to a handful of retailers (and might also charge up-front annual fees to do so), Sugo Music Group will assure that your Masters will be available, accessible and beheld by consumers throughout the world. We have developed significant outreach programs to thousands of industry partners—including sub-licensees, music supervisors for film and TV, advertising and commercial agencies, sync brokers, monetization brokers, sub-publishers, video game licensees, broadcasters, performance rights organizations, distributors, retailers, labels and more. We might be able to secure overseas Master Use Licensing deals with various regional distribution companies, and we qualify emerging online and mobile outlets on a daily basis. In addition, our international mobile telecom database is growing every year, for both mobile download and streaming services. Why Us? Our company was founded in 1983 by artists, musicians and savvy business entrepreneurs. From the first day in the office, we decided to build our business acumen from the proverbial “one brick at a time” premise. Today, after 30 years of research, development, implementation and expansion, we firmly stand behind our philosophy of providing complete distribution portfolio solutions for our label partners. Get plugged In! Contact us today!
  • 3. 3 Radio Airplay...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION Radio Airplay Overview Over the past 5 years, we’ve witnessed a significant increase in digital radio broadcasts. This increase is triggered by new hardware, new DMS providers, consumer preferences and emerging territories. As a result, our Label Partner’s broadcast royalties have skyrocketed, yet it has not been “a snap of the fingers”. Each broadcaster, whether it’s Pandora, Sirius XM, Spotify, iRadio, Deezer or Beats Music, requires proper content protocol, A&R expertise, meticulous metadata management, and insightful territory know-how! Our Radio Ingestion Team listens and hand-assembles every master we receive to ensure that each track is delivered with 100% effectiveness. It’s time to get your music assets prepared for the future. Soon, Digital Radio royalties will surpass both digital album downloads and digital track downloads (see below). The Emerging Streaming Radio Marketplace Sugo Music Group has established relationships with all of the top Internet, mobile, satellite and cable broadcast providers. Revenues generated by master performance radio streams are increasing every day. For instance, Internet radio is now responsible for nearly 80% of listening hours. In addition, nearly 70% of digital radio usage now comes from the mobile market. This type of usage is not just from smart phones. You can access many internet radio brands from hundreds of different devices, including cars, countertop devices, alarm clocks, apps and more. In addition, apps have been the single largest growth driver for Internet radio in the past few years and the phenomenon has a lot of room for growth. Substantial engineering efforts have been put forth by all the major Internet, mobile and satellite radio companies to bring the service to hundreds of different devices. Sugo Music Group guarantees that your music will be broadcasted across the existing and emerging digital radio eco-system! Not a Few Radio Stations … How About All of Them? Music distributors only deliver to a subset of major radio stations and broadcasters. There’s a reason for this: all music distributors are automated. Automation is not a bad thing. In fact, we use automation for certain services as well. Yet we realized early on that to deliver a complete broadcasting package, much of the work needed to be done by hand because it was the only way to get it done right! There was no way around it. You cannot cut corners and hope for the best. If you want music delivered to every major radio broadcaster, it mandates both manual labor and automation. Over the past 10 years, our business development team has been solidifying partnerships with all major radio broadcasters, brokers and agents. We are the only distributor that provides a complete broadcasting package, including Pandora, SiriusXM, Spotify, iRadio, Deezer, Google Play and many more!
  • 4. 4 What Is a Complete Broadcasting Package? Early on we realized that the only way to provide a complete broadcast package for our label partners was to dedicate a lot of time, effort and resources to the service. Because many of the top broadcasters such as Pandora, and SiriusXM—and even in-store media broadcasters such as Mood Media, Stingray, Music Choice and Play Network—do not accept automated submissions, we needed to dedicate an ongoing team of workers to prepare each product for manual submission. That’s right! The only way to get it done right was by real people—one album, one song and one artist at a time. This process does not utilize bulk uploads with one-click transmissions. In fact, the most successful broadcasters still use “old-school” methods and demand that all music be delivered by traditional methods. It’s true: Pandora and SiriusXM still require CD submissions to get your music approved and available for broadcast. That’s right! And in those cases our ingestion team actually burns CDs on your behalf and mails them to such providers—all at no extra charge. That’s right! Get plugged in … contact a Mervilton Records today! Synchronization...GET PLUGGED IN! Your Music Should Be in the Movies! Have you ever wondered if your music could be licensed for film, TV, commercials and advertisements? Well, it should be, and Sugo Music Group can help! Through the years, we have meticulously fostered relationships with the largest synchronization aggregators in the world, and we also work with a multitude of independent sync agents, brokers, music supervisors and film editors. In addition, we have an executive enterprise relationship with Rumblefish, the leading synchronization aggregator. Music “Sync” Licensing is time-intensive work, yet when your music is finally placed, it not only generates significant revenue, but also champions the word about your brand, artists and creative talent. What Is Synchronization? The use of music in film, TV, video and webcast production involves two aspects of copyright law: synchronization rights and performance rights. Performance Rights come into play when a production is shown to the public, typically via broadcast or cablecast. Performance rights are primarily of concern to film distributors and TV and cable stations. Synchronization, or “sync” rights, in contrast, are involved whenever recorded music is used in combination with visual images in a production. Sugo Music Group manages both your Performance Rights and Sync Rights portfolio for any and all broadcasts. Since the use of music in film, TV, video and webcast is not covered by the compulsory license provisions of the Copyright Act, sync licenses for these uses must be negotiated on an individual basis with each broadcast affiliate.

  • 6. 6 Complete Distribution Portfolio Through all of this we’ve discovered that not one single distributor provides a complete music distribution portfolio. Most, if not all, distributors offer basic services such as a handful of Internet retailers, a fraction of available mobile retailers, a few radio broadcasters and little or nothing else. Most music distributors offer:  LIMITED digital distribution  NO major radio stations such as Pandora and SiriusXM  NO significant film and TV synch services  NO sub-licensing agreements  NO album compilations  NO video placements  NO compact disc manufacturing and more… Sugo Music Group delivers the total package:  YES—All digital music stores  YES—Pandora, SiriusXM and all major broadcasters  YES—Major film, TV, games and commercial synch providers  YES—International sub-licensee affiliates  YES—New album compilations  YES—Video distribution and monetization  YES—Manufactured CDs  YES—In-store media broadcasters  YES—All Content Identification and User Generated Content tracking  YES—Social Media promotions, Digital Music Marketing, and Online Music Promotion services  YES—All Performance Rights Collection Agencies Built from the Ground Up Sugo Music Group is a full-service music & multimedia distributor and one of the top music publishing companies in the world. • 7. 7 Switch Your Distributor or Choose Our A-La-Carte Service Menu! Sugo Music Group will assist you in changing your current distribution package over to our distribution network or you can choose our A-La-Carte Service Menu. Yes, that’s right! It’s always a more seamless process to switch your entire distribution over to one account—and it’s a lot easier than you may think. Often times it’ll take less than a week. That said, some content owners may prefer our A-La-Carte menu whereas you can choose services which your current distributor is not offering. For instance, if you need global performance rights registration and collections (ASCAP, BMI, Sound Exchange and global PRO’s) or if you want your master tracks licensed onto other albums (for increased exposure and revenue) or possibly synchronization (film & TV), content identification (YouTube & the Internet) or a more robust radio streaming portfolio, just contact us and we’ll set you up using our A-La-Carte Service! Innovation Prevails Sugo Music Group was the first to integrate digital and physical distribution, recognizing the importance of distributing across all channels and formats—all with superior asset management protocol. Whether it’s an album download on iTunes or Amazon, a stream on Deezer or Rhapsody, a production music library placement for film or TV, a UGC track or CiD on YouTube, or a ringtone through Nokia or Telefonica, we supply hundreds of outlets around the world through our proprietary Delivery & Operations Database (DOD). With 30 years of experience, our team will help you sell music online the right way! We Do the Work for You There are a number of reasons why other distributors will not offer a complete music distribution portfolio. The primary reason is that most distributors are automated. With other distributors:  YOU are required to upload your music  YOU are required to upload your art  YOU are required to upload your metadata  YOU are required to pay submission and account fees. This is not the case with Mervilton Records/Sugo Music Group:  WE do not charge you any fees for setting up your account  WE do not charge fees for your music submissions  WE monetize, register, and safeguard your music  WE listen to your music to ensure proper placement  WE provide the ‘one and only’ complete music distribution portfolio in the industry today

  • 10. 10 Have Distribution Questions? We Have Answers! QCan’t I just contact digital download sites myself to get my music out there? QWhat if I am already working with a distributor and my music is already on digital download sites, but I want to make a switch to Sugo Music Group? A:It’s actually more simple than you might think. It’s often just a matter of “flipping the switch” on your current distributor’s website or contacting your distributor directly to terminate your agreement. Also remember that we are the only distributor offering A-La-Carte distribution services! If you already have a distribution deal in place, no problem. Just let us know and we’ll fill in the gaps! Either way, we can help—just contact us. QDo I need to own the rights to my music? A:Yes, you need to either own, control or administer the master sound recording rights in order to sign a distribution agreement with any distributor—especially with us. It’s OK if you did not write any of the songs on your music albums or in your archive, but you must have authority to license the master audio recordings for us to provide universal music distribution for your works. QHow long does it take for my music to go live in the stores? A:Sugo Music Group is known for having the fastest turnaround time for any major music distributor. Depending on the size of your archive and how much processing we need to take on, the time can range from one week to four weeks. QHow do I get my music and information to you and secure digital music distribution? A:First, please contact us by email by filling out the “Contact Us” form in the right sidebar of this page. Once an agreement is in place, you will be able to send your files in several different ways. Typically label partners simply upload files to our secure FTP site, or sometimes they choose to send us a hard drive. Either way is fine. We’ll always send a Welcome Package to you via email and guide you through the process. We’ve simplified the process in a way that will help set up your account with us with minimal effort. QWhat if I don’t have physical CDs of my music?
  • 12. 12 A:That’s perfectly fine. Many licensors do not manufacture CDs these days and focus solely on online audio distribution. Digital files are preferred anyway. Our Welcome Package will explain it all. Also, if you want, we can produce and manufacture CDs for you using our CD On-Demand system. QCan I still sell my music on my site? A:Sure, that’s fine! Sugo Music Group’s mission is to provide a Complete Distribution Portfolio for each of our label partners. This is an ongoing commitment. Figuring out how to distribute music is an art form and takes years of practice, just like practicing your music for live performances. Our distribution networks and delivery systems are monitored, reviewed and refined on a daily basis. It is important that all of our label partners are successful and thriving. If you want to sell your music on your site—CDs or downloads—we completely support those efforts. It is important to us that this is a win-win situation for both parties! QWhen will I receive royalties? A:We send statements and royalty payments out to you on a quarterly basis. We’ll send your statements via email, and your royalty checks can be by mail or direct deposit—you choose. QWhat if I submit a cover song? A:Cover songs are great! In fact, some of the most successful songs that we distribute, relevant to downloads and streams, are cover songs. Cover songs are an easy way to attract new audiences and to expand your fan base, demographics and psychographics. We will even handle all the third party composer/publishing payments for you. QWhat if I find a mistake associated with one of my songs/albums on a download site or if I want to remove a song down from a site? A:That’s fine and it happens occasionally. Just contact us, and we’ll fix it or, we’ll take it down for you. What is streaming radio airplay? A:There are two primary ways to deliver audio these days: downloads and streaming. In downloads, an audio file is stored on the user’s computer. Streaming audio is not stored, only played. In the early days of streaming media—the mid-to-late 1990s—listening to music online wasn’t always fun. It was a little like driving in stop-and-go traffic during a heavy rain. Streaming audio (and video) has come a long way since then. The success of streaming media is fairly recent, but the idea behind it has been around as long as people have. When someone talks to you, information travels toward you in the form of a sound wave. Your ears and brain decode this information, allowing you to understand it. This is also what happens when you watch TV or listen to the radio. Information travels to an electronic device in the form of a cable signal, a satellite signal or radio waves. Your device decodes and plays the signal.
  • 13. 13 Do I really need radio airplay or radio music promotion? Don’t radio broadcasts erode my download revenue? A:Yes and no! Yes, you need radio play for numerous reasons. No, it is industry consensus that streaming does NOT erode download revenue. This is so because people listen to streaming digital radio because they are in a “listening mode,” not necessarily a “purchasing mode”. At that moment, a person is not visiting a download store and trying to buy downloads; instead that person is engaged with a radio station and simply trying to listen to music. Thus, if content owners (i.e. music labels and artists) do not offer their music to digital radio stations, they are missing out on two vital benefits. First, they are missing out on exposure, radio music promotion, viral marketing, brand building, artist awareness, etc. Second, many digital radio stations provide a “Buy” button that listeners can click to purchase the corresponding track to which they are listening; thus content owners are also missing out on potential downloads that were originated by the radio stream. In conclusion, it is a widely accepted fact that streaming encourages more downloads. Are you actually saying that the fractions of pennies I’ll earn from each digital radio stream are worth it? A:Yes, absolutely. Think of it this way: First, streaming radio is trending worldwide at a high rate of consumption and is affordable for almost everyone. It will be available in most countries, for most people and at a cost-effective consumer rate—and it’s becoming widely available in cars! Think about that for a moment. Second, if your music is not available on digital radio stations, then you are simply missing out on ancillary revenue, as well as incremental free radio music promotions. Third, and most important, when someone downloads your music, it is typically a one-time purchase, which is fine … sort of. In contrast with digital radio, someone can listen to that same recording hundreds or maybe thousands of times along the way. The incremental revenue earned from multiple streams can outdistance downloads in many cases. To what radio stations does Sugo Music Group distribute? A:Sugo Music Group distributes to all major and secondary radio stations on Internet, mobile, satellite and cable channels. We even distribute to broadcasters that are difficult to reach and require significant time and effort to do so such as SiriusXM, Deezer, rDio, Slacker and especially Pandora! The following is a list of our primary radio stations and radio aggregators. Keep in mind that some of these affiliates are larger international companies with numerous stations within their database: 24/7, Aspiro, Beats Music, Deezer, FNAC Direct, Google, iTunes Radio, JbHifiMusic, LaLa, Last-FM, MediaNet, Microsoft Zune Music, MOG, MusicLoad, MUZ.RU CJSC, Myspace, Napster, Neowiz Bugs, NMusic, Omnifone, Pandora, rDio, Rhapsody, simfy GmbH, SiriusXM, Slacker, Spotify, Synacor, Telus, Turntable.fm, Verizon, WE7, Xbox Music, Zune/Xbox Music, and more. QHow long will it take to get radio airplay and get my music accepted on these stations? A:Typically we will have your music prepped and delivered within 30 days, depending on the size and condition of your archive. In some instances, we’ve had music up and broadcasted within a week or even a few days. Other stations such as Pandora and SiriusXM are different (they are not automated), and thus our delivery protocol is manual. Also, Pandora and SiriusXM reserve the rights to accept or reject all submissions—yes, they are picky! That said, we have a good success rate with our manually delivered submissions.
  • 14. 14 Tell me how to get music copyrighted, how to copyright songs, and how to copyright music online. A:First, let’s start with some important info regarding US copyright. Copyright law defines much of the music business, influencing the practices of recording, touring and distribution deals. Congress understands the importance of the music business, passing and amending copyright laws for decades to help manage the music industry. Still, many artists have very little information regarding copyright and rely on knowledge about laws that have changed dramatically through the years. Keep in mind that “song” copyright is distinct from the “sound recording” copyright. As a rule, the sound recording can be thought of as the “master” (the recorded performance of the song). That said, registration is not required for a valid copyright. That’s right! You actually do not need to register your copyright with the United States Copyright Office in order to have a valid copyright. You have a valid copyright as soon as your song or sound recording is “fixed in a tangible medium of expression”. This is a term used by the Copyright Act and means that your song or sound recording must be recorded (e.g. released on CD, digital stores, YouTube, etc.). While not mandatory, physical copyright registration of published music or recordings still has some benefits such as filing a lawsuit to enforce the copyright or receiving statutory damages. Getting your music copyrighted (masters and songs) by simply recording and distributing them is important, yet accurately registering them with “master” Performance Rights Organizations and “song” Performance Rights Organizations are imperative! Contact us and we’ll evaluate your assets and get set you up the right way. QHow often will I receive these royalties? A:All your streaming royalties will be included in your statement along with your download sales and other revenues generated. We send statements and royalty payments out to you on a quarterly basis. We’ll send your statements via email, and your royalty checks can be by mail or direct deposit—you choose. Your Music Should Be in the Movies! QWhat is Sync Licensing? A:See above. A Synchronization, or “sync,” right is when recorded music is used in combination with visual images in a production. Since the use of music in film, TV, video, game, webcast or other various entertainment and business usages is not covered by the compulsory license provisions of the Copyright Act, sync licenses for these uses must be negotiated on an individual basis with each broadcast affiliate. QWhy should I license my music? A:Licensing your music for various means (e.g., downloads, radio play, synchronization, etc.) is the primary strategy to generate revenue. Think of your music as a product that needs to be brought to the public’s eye through marketing and distribution and that numerous channels of distribution act as vehicles to transport your product to the public. Licensing your music for film, TV and other synchronization applications is one of those channels. QHow much money will I make? A:Licenses range from $100 for small website usages to $50,000 for major motion picture placements. The amount depends on the type of placement. The best way to look at it is to set up a robust sync portfolio with as many tracks and as many placements as possible—with the best distributor. This is where Sugo Music Group can definitely help. We’ll build your metatag docket for all of your tracks and submit and expose those masters to the right agents and brokers.
  • 16. 16 QHow much does SMG charge for this service? A:Synchronization deals are always split 50/50. You, the licensor, receive half of the revenue, and Sugo Music Group, the licensee, receives the other half. Have Distribution Questions? We Have Answers! Let’s Get Started! For most music labels, content owners, recordings artists and songwriters, initial success almost always comes from activity within their respective territory or country. Downloads, digital radio, television, Internet performances, album sales (both physical sales and downloads), sync licenses for songs in films, television, video games, and advertising commercials are the typical applications. All of these methods and channels can generate royalties—sometimes large, as in the case of a hit song, good-selling compilation album or television theme, and other times minimal, as in the case of a webcast performance or small one-time usages. A Shot Heard Around the World! But what happens when your audio recording or song is licensed by a licensee in a foreign territory—say, in Taiwan, Ireland, South Africa, USA or any other country, for that matter? How will royalties be collected, and by whom? What do you have to do to get paid? Those are the questions you need answers to when dealing with any activity in the foreign marketplace. The good news is that Sugo Music Group specializes in Global Sub- Licensing. See below. Your Complete Distribution Portfolio Global Sub-Licensing is often ignored, yet there are many foreign music licensing opportunities and it helps round out your Complete Distribution Portfolio. We are proud to announce that new distribution partners have joined our expanding distribution database in various emerging territories including China, India, Philippines and Taiwan. Although we control the majority of our international distribution efforts from our U.S. base operations and affiliates, our sub-licensing partners and new emerging music licensing companies and agents also will help promote, distribute and sell your music through strategic, ancillary channels. Not Cut from the Same Cloth Each territory has its own procedures, policies and laws governing the licensing, performance and sale of music in its territory—and this affects how to license your music abroad. In addition, every country has its own collection societies for the negotiation, collection and distribution of performance and mechanical monies—for both copyright owners and writer and publishing registrants. These foreign collection societies and organizations have payment rules very different from those in your territory or in the U.S.—in addition to sometimes taking significant deductions from royalties of master owners, writers and publishers prior to statements and payments. Some of these societies are very transparent, whereas others are not.
  • 17. 17 Our Foreign Collection Society Partners Sugo Music Group collects on Global Sub-Licensing efforts in two ways: a) Master Use Licensing and b) Performance Royalties. Sugo Music Group negotiates Master Use licenses for the usage of the master sound recording. In addition, we will also register and collect royalties for the public broadcast performances of both your master and your original songs! Though most songwriters receive modest or little royalties for their songs performed outside the U.S., successful writers can make millions of dollars over the life of a song for foreign country performances and sales. To give an example of the type of monies being collected, in 2009 over $600 million was forwarded to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC for foreign performances of U.S. works. Most of the money is writer money as many publishers collect their money directly from each foreign collection society. As to individual activity, a major worldwide hit song can generate well over $1,000,000 in foreign radio and television performance monies, with a blockbuster feature film generating in excess of $500,000 composer royalties for foreign theatrical (movie theatre) performances alone during the initial year of activity. Putting these high-end figures aside, it is important to know that tens of thousands of U.S. copyright owners, writers and publishers receive between $1 and $100,000 in foreign royalties each year for performances of their works on radio and television stations, live performances and website transmissions, among many other types of uses. Never forget: real success is worldwide, and you need to know how the business works outside of your territory. Welcome to Sugo Music Group. We’ll help you get it done! Get plugged in! QWhat is sub-licensing? A:See above. Global Sub-Licensing is one of the more important services we offer and helps round out your Complete Distribution Portfolio. Although a significant portion of our international distribution efforts is based from our U.S. headquarters, we also work with our foreign sub-licensing partners to help promote, distribute and sell your music through strategic, ancillary channels in their respective territories. QWhy should I sub-license my music? A:Sub-licensing should be an integral part of every distribution portfolio. Most, if not all, music distributors do not provide Global Sub-Licensing services and solutions. They don’t because they are 100% automated. Automated services have some benefits, yet they also have limitations. Global Sub-Licensing can be time consuming and require extra resources, yet once your music is licensed into a foreign territory with one of our affiliate partners, then your assets can be professionally marketed in ancillary channels that we cannot oversee from our U.S.-based headquarters. QWhat do you charge for this service? A:There are no additional charges, fees, charge-backs, etc. This is a win-win situation for both of us. We’ve been working with international licensing affiliates for 30 years now. From day one, we were setting up vinyl and cassette manufacturing and unique production deals in international territories. Years later, we set up CD manufacturing and various synchronization deals. Currently we manage digital asset ingestion with our foreign partners, yet some partners still like to manufacture CDs as well. Q
  • 18. 18 How can I guarantee my music is protected? A:Sugo Music Group works with some of the most respected licensees in the industry. Although many of our partners have been around for decades, we still interview, qualify and sign on new potential partners when applicable. QCan I copyright music online for foreign territories? A:Most countries have copyright laws similar to those in the USA or in your own territory. If your work is protected in your territory, it will also be protected in most other territories under the local laws. International copyright treaties require certain minimum protections and enforcement of copyright law for artists. International collection agencies operate under the principal of “national treatment,” meaning foreign societies administer the rights in their territories in the same way as they treat their own members’ works. Use of your music overseas is however subject to the laws and policies of each society in question. If you wish to copyright your music online, it’s fairly simple. For example only, the US Copyright Office encourages users to file electronically. Registration should be done on Form-CO. This form is used for both the “composition” and the “sound recording”. The cost of filing is $35.00 for electronic filing or $45.00 for paper filing. Paper filing takes the Copyright Office significantly longer to complete. With this in mind, Sugo Music Group is a full-service global distributor and rights management company and we will register and distribute your musical works around the world and in up to 120 countries. We work closely with all Performance Rights Organizations to ensure that your music is not only copyrighted through our distribution system, yet also we will accurately register and manage your masters and songs with global Performance Rights Organizations and collection agencies. Contact us and get started! Q When will I get paid? A:We send statements and royalty payments on a quarterly basis. See below.

Sugo Music Group will ensure proper registration, negotiations and collections on your behalf. • 22. 22 Get plugged in to your songs with Mervilton Records/Sugo Music Group! QWhat is music publishing and what is a music publishing company? A:The business of music publishing is concerned with developing, protecting and valuing music compositions. The publishing business is diverse and demands a variety of skills. Music publishers play a vital role in the development of new music and in taking care of the business side, allowing composers and songwriters to concentrate on their creative work. A good publisher seeks out great music and great composers and songwriters, supports composers and songwriters in the creative process, promotes their catalogues across a variety of platforms, manages the business exploitation of the catalogues (including the registration of works and the collection and onward payment of all due royalties) and generally seeks to protect and enhance the value of their works with passion and professional commitment. What are Performing Rights Organizations, and what do they do? A:A Performing Rights Organization (or PRO) helps songwriters and publishers get paid for the usage of their music by collecting one of the most important forms of publishing revenue: Performance Royalties. As a songwriter, composer or lyricist, you’re owed what is called a “Performance Royalty” any time your music is played on radio stations (terrestrial, satellite and Internet), used on TV shows or commercials or performed in live venues. Those Performance Royalties are paid by radio stations, venues and TV networks to PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SOCAN (in Canada) and more (see above). QWhat if I’m already registered with a Performing Rights Organization such as ASCAP, BMI or SESAC? A:As a composer, you should be registered with a PRO in your territory. If you are not, then we can help. In addition, you should seek a publisher who will help manage and exploit your catalog. This is where Sugo Music Group’s publishing divisions can help.
  • 23. 23 What if I already have a music publishing company? A:If you already have a music publishing company, you need to ask, “What is it doing for me and has it secured any music publishing deals?” If the answer is “very little,” then you need to make a change. If you are a composer and the publisher (all in one) or if you are a music label that has publishing rights of your artists’ songs and want to generate more revenues, then please contact us, and we’ll set you up the right way! I need to know how to get music published with song publishing companies. Is it difficult? Can I do it myself? A:When searching for music publishing companies, you’ll want to find one that has a lot of experience and genuinely wants to protect the writer’s interest and property. Yet figuring out how to publish your music can takes years, possibly decades, and that is valuable time that you could be putting towards your music and, well, writing songs. The business of music publishing requires proper registration and worldwide tracking of when the song is performed publicly through broadcasts and synchronization usages. How to get music published and performed on radio, film, TV, commercials, businesses, and even the Internet is a vital component of your Complete Distribution Portfolio. Contact us and we’ll help set you up the right way! Do I retain rights to my music? A:Yes, all composers under a publishing agreement with Mervilton Records/Sugo Music Group will retain 100% rights of their music. Period.

Through the years, our In-Store Media division has developed those relationships and systems. This allows you to do what you do best: creating and marketing your music!
  • 26. 26 Content Identification...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION Overview In today’s digital world, a growing number of authorized and unauthorized third party users make use of copyrighted material every day. These might include the usage of your audio and audiovisual masters for commercial and private applications (e.g. uploading audio and videos on social media sites for weddings, corporate events, commercials or slide shows) in which your masters might be used with or without proper authorization and licensing. Sugo Music Group and its CiD affiliates register, reformat, submit, monitor, manage, monetize, collect revenue and provide Content Identification services on behalf of our label partners using various technological means. Day by Day Sugo Music Group’s CiD department routinely monitors and monetizes multiple types of unlicensed User Generated Content (UGC) uses of your music masters on social media websites, Internet broadcasters and various other websites, as well as new technologies, channels and platforms that arise, whether now known or existing in the future. Watch What Happens: YouTube Content Identification When Sugo Music Group identifies a match between your music recording and a video file on the Internet, we then monetize that UGC video using various advertisement techniques. We serve as an intermediary between artists and the people who might use an artist’s work for, say, a YouTube video. Every time a new video is uploaded, it’s automatically compared against YouTube’s Content Identification library for a match. We constantly monitor and update your musical works within YouTube’s ID library. If we find a match, we can take one of three actions: remove the content, leave it alone or monetize the video. Typically we choose to monetize the video because it generates incremental revenue that we collect on your behalf. It also expands your broadcast portfolio. In some instances, when the video is not suitable, we will issue a takedown. We’ll make Content ID simple for you—so you can start earning the money you deserve! Get plugged into Content Identification … with Sugo Music Group! QWhat is Content ID, and why does CiD exist? A:Content ID is a technology that exists for a couple of reasons: a) it allows content providers to identify when videos incorporate their content, and b) it allows revenue to be generated (and collected by Sugo Music Group) by placing advertising next to content that has been included in the Content ID program and identified in uploaded videos. This is just another way of how to sell music online through state-of-the-art digital music distribution! QWhy is CiD on YouTube so important? A:Over 60 hours of new video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. That’s a lot of people who need good tunes to match up with those crazy cat videos and glamorous wedding slideshows they’re posting.
  • 27. 27 QWhat’s the CiD process and do I need to do anything? A:Sugo Music Group and its CiD affiliates will handle everything for you. We will format and deliver your music to YouTube’s Content ID system and various other channels that are emerging. This is an important step and must be done right. Then YouTube will scan your tracks with fingerprinting, watermarking and proprietary algorithms and register an exact sonic “fingerprint” for each and every one of your songs into respective databases. User Generated Content matches will then occur. We monitor the matches, monetize the videos and collect revenue. From that point on, any time someone out there in the YouTube universe uploads a video that uses one of your songs, you will make money from the ad revenue generated by that video. With Sugo Music Group’s CiD program, you’ll get paid for the usage of your music on the Internet, especially YouTube, and is another important way how to sell your music online. QI’m still totally confused and don’t get Content ID because it’s really complicated. A:Don’t worry, we totally understand. This stuff gets complicated really quickly, especially when dealing with digital fingerprinting, watermarking, advanced Boolean search and data-basing algorithms! Don’t worry because we’re here to help. The most important thing is to get it done … and get it done right. After your music is entered into our CiD database, you’ll be collecting revenue that is legally and rightfully yours. This is just another way how to market your music, how to promote your music, how to publish your music, and how to build a Complete Distribution Portfolio. Contact us, and we’ll do our best to answer your questions quickly and accurately. Video Monetization...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION Your Video Network Over the past five years we’ve developed a video distribution and monetization network that is one of the largest in the world. Sugo Music Group manages hundreds of video channels within the Internet, YouTube and social media sites. We have partnerships with the leading ad placement, content monetization, and audio video distributors in the world. Together we supervise and monetize a growing network of channels on a daily basis. The technology we are using is some of the most advanced in the world today for optimizing the monetization process and is designed to yield the highest possible revenue cost per thousand impressions (CPM). Monetize All Your Videos Think of Sugo Music Group’s Video Monetization program as an annuity—a stipend where your revenue grows with time and your brand garners significant exposure in a competitive digital marketplace. Our audiovisual deployment team will provide full optimization, protection, processing and monetization on most major DMS partner video sites. Sugo Music Group can add significant dollars to your royalty checks as a direct result of our advertising sales and trafficking expertise for your videos—even if your videos are homemade, concert footage or slideshows. Our video distribution services will add additional revenue streams to your portfolio.
  • 28. 28 Choose the Right Partner There are alternate solutions for Video Monetization, yet they are not optimal. For instance, sites such as YouTube use their advertising company for ad placements on video channels. YouTube’s sales team primarily focuses on monetizing YouTube’s home page and top-level domains (e.g., Eminem’s video channel). Why? The math is simple: the home page is worth $500K per day! Why would they sell used cars when they can have a brand new Rolls Royce people are clamoring to buy? However, there is still a market for the remaining ad inventory for smaller independent video channels like yours—and Sugo Music Group and our advertisement partners know how to monetize it! Costs and Time Sugo Music Group and its Video Monetization affiliates will aggregate, segment and sell advertising inventory around your content that we have licensed to the social media websites on the Internet. These websites, along with our monetization partners, collect a revenue share on behalf of your content assets. We bear all of the expenses out of our share, with no hidden fees or chargebacks to you. All revenues are tracked on a CPM basis, and we meticulously report on how much money each one of your assets generates in each accounting period. There is typically a nine-month lead time before your first reporting because we and our monetization partners have to process your content, ingest it into the system, build your Content ID docket, distribute, manage the ad inventory online, sell and traffic the ads and get paid by the advertisers. Quality Control You can rest assured that all advertising sold around your content must conform to family friendly guidelines. You will never see ads for adult content, alcohol, tobacco, weapons or other products or services that are not family friendly when working with Sugo Music Group. If you have video assets—however big or small—there might be untapped potential revenue to be earned via proper exploitation. Join the Sugo Music Group’s team, and we’ll take a look at what can be done! Get plugged in! QCan you explain more simply what Video Monetization is? A:Sure. First, we’ll help get your videos up onto, say, YouTube to start. Then our team will monetize each video with several different ad placements: In-Stream Ads, In-Video Overlay Ads and/or Standard Banner Ads. Consumers are accustomed to video ads throughout YouTube. For each stream that is viewed, you’ll generate income. QOK. Can you now explain in more detail what Video Monetization is and how your video distribution services work? What are the revenue rates? A:Rates can vary from $1 to as high as $300 per 1,000 views. The current payout CPM on average is about $2.75 to $3.50 per 1,000 views (this is conservative). For channels and videos that develop higher viewership, higher dollar ad values are sold—for example, $18 to $30 per 1,000 views for videos with 100,000 or more
  • 29. 29 views. If channels or videos go viral and exceed 800,000+ views, significantly higher “paid product placement” ads are sold, and they can reach as high as $90 to $300 per 1,000 views. QAre there different types or tiers of payout rates? Can you be more specific about these? A:Three classifications of advertisement inventory are available: Run of Content: Advertisers purchase ads targeted across the entire content network without regard to any individual piece of category of content. These are generally direct response advertisers looking for performance. The ads are often sold by advertising networks and exchanges. Rates are commonly around $1 CPM and consist mostly of banner ads and sponsored links. Run of Audience: Advertisers purchase video or display ads around content segmented into categories that correspond to general audience appeal. An example could be “auto” or “basketball.” This inventory may be sold by our advertising partner, the publisher or an affiliate. Rates are commonly $4 to $12 CMP for video preroll or in video overlays. Direct Sold: Brand advertises purchase premium: 15- and 30-second video prerolls (movie trailers, premium commercials, etc.) directly from our advertising partner with stringent targeting and tracking requirements. Rates are commonly $15+ CPM for video prerolls. QWhy is your company better at this service than other companies? A:Our video optimization process drives average monetization lift from 28% to near 90%—a 3x increase in content available for monetization on these types of DMS channels. Our system strives to fill 100% of all available inventories at the highest possible rate. Sugo Music Group and our monetization partners are dedicated, on a daily basis, to actively growing this side of the business with significant opportunity to generate additional revenues for you. QCan I opt out of advertising at any time? A:Yes, absolutely. Most, if not all, label partners choose to stay in the program because this service increases overall earnings.

  • 32. 32 Album Compilations...GLOBAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION What? Compilation products are the single most effective way of how to promote your music, how to significantly increase digital music distribution, how to sell your music online and to build a Complete Music Distribution Portfolio. Album Compilations is a general term used to refer to a music product made of up of songs not intended to be seen as a single work. Compilation albums—frequently referred to as “comp(s)”—are often made up of tracks by various artists, though they can sometimes feature a single artist, a collection of works from a music label or targeted lifestyle themes. A comp can be a retrospective, greatest hits or a sampler of an artist’s career, a collection of unreleased tracks or some combination of these. Comp tracks are usually collected according to a common characteristic, such as popularity, genre, source or subject matter. Compilation albums may also employ traditional product bundling strategies. How? Compilation products can be challenging to assemble because the production company that releases the comp must secure permission from all of the parties involved. This can mean juggling demands of a long list of publishers, labels and musicians, who sometimes have divergent interests. This fact is true even of single-artist compilation albums for artists who have worked with more than one label over the course of their career. In addition, there are graphic design work, metadata consistency, UPCs, quality control, audio level consistency, promotions and more. Why? Compilations serve a purpose—especially now, during this digital era. Comps provide “pathways” for consumers to discover and embrace the work of new and even established artists. For instance, with a 10-artist targeted album compilation, each artist is exposed to 10x the potential consumer base as with a single-artist album. Some of those artists might have a larger fan base as well, increasing the potential fan base exponentially. In addition, when an artist is discovered on a compilation, then the consumer can easily discover the artist’s original albums—whereas this form of album promotion and discovery would never have happened without the compilation! Who? That said, Sugo Music Group has a dedicated product development and A&R department that works directly with our label partners to ensure that the sound recording compilations are of the highest quality. Sugo Music Group has produced thousands of compilations over the past 30 years and is highly regarded in the industry for doing so. Currently we produce 100 album compilations per month. Through the years, Sugo Music Group has created private label compilations for some of the most brand-conscious companies in the world such as Hard Rock Hotel, National Geographic, Sharper Image, Starwood and Kimpton Hotels, Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, Google, eBay, Discovery Channel, Bravo TV, and numerous more!
  • 33. 33 Common Types of Compilations: Greatest Hits, Best Of or Singles collection albums—These are comps that gather together an artist’s or a group’s best-known songs. If the artist or group continues to record, compilers commonly include one or more previously unreleased tracks as an incentive for fans to buy the album, even if they already have the other material on the compilation. Single-Artist, Rarities or B-Side collections: These are albums compiled from radio sessions, songs performed by an artist exclusively for a film soundtrack or collections that combine multiple releases. Such compilations generally target existing fans of the artist and have diminished mainstream appeal. Various Artist-Themed compilations: These comps could be love songs, Christmas songs, etc. featuring a particular instrument (such as saxophone or piano), and countless other variations. Various Genre-Themed compilations: e.g. jazz, synth-pop, rock, etc. These might be from the same time period (year, decade or era, for example), or incorporate a common theme. Various Artist Hit compilations: This has been a very successful part of the album market since the early 1970s. Hit singles are gathered together on one comp. Promotional compilations or samplers: These are creative, successful forms of promotion for artists and/or record labels to promote their music. Private Label promotional compilations: Promotional compilation CDs can be private labeled for products, retail outlets, commercial organizations or non-profit organizations. Some artists and labels like to co-brand themselves with well-known brands for marketing purposes, and transversely, well-known brands like to co- brand themselves with artists. Composer/Producer albums: Many hip-hop and reggaeton producers will release a compilation album that features various artists, but with each track composed by the same producer. • 34. 34 QSomeone told me a long time ago that compilations will dilute my original album sales. Is that true? A:That might have been true a long time ago, yet the industry consensus is that compilations ONLY benefit music labels and artists here in the digital era. Comps will dramatically increase your overall sales revenue, your exposure, your popularity and also the amount of channels in which your music can be available. QWhat do you mean when you say that compilations will increase the amount of channels available to me? A:An artist’s album has the potential to be available for many different types of channels and markets: broadcast (Pandora, SiriusXM, etc.), territory sub-licensees and sub-distributors (Canada, India, USA, Japan, etc.), production libraries (Rumblefish, APM, etc.) and more. Yet some of these entities are choosey. In fact, each entity could reject your original album—it happens every day. For instance, Pandora accepts only a small amount of submissions—definitely not 100% (more like 30%). Targeted album compilations increase your chances of acceptance. Recent example: We submitted works from one of our label partners to various licensees and sub-licensees, and almost none of their works were accepted. We were not discouraged, and instead we created and submitted multiple “best of,” “artistic,” “genre-based” and “thematic” compilations of the label’s works. the licensees selected most of these new compilations because they were targeted and individually prepared by our experienced A&R staff for those specific channels. QDoes it cost me any money for you to make compilations or to include my music on various compilations? A:No, we do not charge any additional fees, charge-backs or any sort of added-on costs. We are the only company in the world—that we know of—that produces quality compilations for our label partners! © 2014 MERVILTON RECORDS, COURTESY Of STUDIO 634, A DIV. OF SUGO MUSIC GROUP
