2. INTRODUCTION and FOUNDER
:-
O J.R.D.Tata India's first pilot;
established Air India International as
India's first international airline;
Chairman of Tata & Sons for 50
years.
O Born on 29 feb. 1904 in france.
O Also known as the father of civil
aviation.
O Airways first started on february 18
1911.
O D.O.D – 29 nov. 1993.

O Also known as the flag holder of India .
O On 1932 Air India began its journey under the aegis of tata air lines .
O 1948: Air India International formed as a national carrier.
O In 2001, Air India was put up for sale

O In the year april 1932
vintcent and tata won a
contract to carry mails.
O On 15 oct. 1932 J.R.D.Tata
flew a single engined
airpline carrying mails from
karachi to bombay.
O In july 1932 aviation dept. of
tata sons was formed.
O In 1983 it was re-christened
as Tata Air Service and later
renamed as Tata Airlines.

O After world war II, on 29 july
1946 Tata Airlines beacme
publis ltd.company under
the name Air India.
O In 1948 after independence
49% of airline acquired by
Govt. of India.
O In 1954 it took its first deliver
in first L-1049 super
constellation inaugurating
services to Bangkok,Hong
kong,Tokyo and Singapore.

O On 21 february 1950, Air
India entered into jet age
with first Boeing 707_402
named Gauri Shankar
becaming the 1st Asian
airline to induct a jet aircraft
in its fleet.
O On 8th june 1962 the airline
name was officially
truncated as Air India.
O On 11 june 1962, Air India
became the worlds 1st all-jet
airline.

O In 1971 it Boeing 747_200B named as
Emperor Ashoka.
O In 1986 Air India took Air Bus
A310_300.
O In 1988 took 2 boeing 747_300MS
mixed passenger cargo configuration.
O In 1989 Air India took 2 Boeing
747_400 named as konark made
history by 1st non-stop flight betn.
New York and Delhi.
O In 1994 Air India registered as Air
India Ltd.

O In 1996 airline inagurated service to its 2nd US
gateway O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.
O In 1999 Airline opened its dedicated terminal 2-C at
the renamed Chhatrapati Shivaji International
Airport in Mumbai.

9. Privatization,Expansion and Merger
O In 2000, air india introduced
services to Shanghai and to it’s
3rd US gateway at Newark
Liberty International Airport in
Newark, New Jersery.
O In may 2004, Air India launched
a wholly owned low cost airline
called Air-India express.
O In 2004 it launched its 4th
gateway at Los Angeles
International Airport, Los
Angeles.

O On dec. 1 2009,
introduced services to
5th US gateway
Washington Dulles
International Airport in
Washington,D.C.
O In 2007 the govt.
decided to merge both
airlines Air India
Express and India
Airlines under one
control body.

India took its 1st delivery
of boeing 747_400.
O On 6 july 2007, took its
1st delivery of boeing
777_200LR.
O On 09 oct. 2007 took
delivery of boeing
777_300ER.
O On 06 sept. 2012 took its
1st delivery of Boeing 787
dreamliner aircraft.
O On feb. 2013 air india
operates 62 A320 family
aircraft.

22. New aircraft orders:-
O On 11 jan. 2006, Air India
announced and order of 68
jets – 8 Boeings 777_200LR
Worldliners, 15 Boeing
777_300ER , 18 boeing
737_800 and 27 Boeing 787_8
Dreamliners.
O The 18 737’s order was later
transfered to Air India
Express.
O Air India has taken 20 boeing
787_8 dreamliners so far, all
other reamaining expected to
be delivered by 2016.

23. Fleet restructuring:-
O Air India sold 5 boeing
777_200LR to Etihad
Airways on dec. 2013.
O Plans such as ultra long
flights were cancelled due
to high fuel prices and less
demand.
O On april 2014 Air India
decided to sell its
remaining 3 boeing
777_200LR du to higher
operating costs.
O On 24 april 2014, issued a
tender for leasing 14 Airbus
A320for 6 years to
strengthen its domestic
network.
