2. AWOW believes
Every girl should have the right to an education, to believe in herself and realize
she matters. Help give girls a chance by making a special contribution to help us
help them reach their goal. The AWOW TEC-Girls IT Center is an early-stage
intervention to help close the gender digital divide by teaching 100 girls in Tongo
Village, Ghana computer literacy to develop programs and create digital content
as well as help ready themselves as they embark upon a world of global
technology.

4. The AWOW TECK Girls Information, Technology and Communication
Center is an early-stage intervention to help close the gender digital

create digital content as well as help ready them as they embark upon
a world of technology.

1SUMMARY
5. Fewer women and girls than men have access to technology. Fewer
are using, working in and creating technology. This problem starts from
childhood with stereotypes about who technology is for. It is
exacerbated when few women pursue studies in science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in a tertiary institution. This
under-representation of women means that women do not qualify for
most technology jobs and cannot help shape tomorrow's technology.

2CHALLENGES
6. The education of the girls is an exciting and technically challenging 8-
week immersion program that demystifies information and
communication technology. By participating in practical technology
classes, listening to career talks and going on excursions to technology
companies, the girls are inspired to use technology in a deeper way, to
create technology and digital content, and to pursue careers in
technology. Data from 2013 to 2015 show that the training clarified career
plans for 53.3% of the girls

3SOLUTIONS
7. 4The long-term benefit of the technology programs is to contribute to a
flourishing technology industry in Ghana, which produces solutions that
address local and global problems. By equipping women and girls with
skills to participate in the digital economy, this builds technology skills
capacity in Africa. It also ultimately empowers girls and women with the
ability to navigate and contribute meaningfully to the digital economy
and improve their economic opportunities.
