Making use of All-Payer Claims Databases for Health Care Reform Evaluation

Edwina Rogers, executive director of Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative, began her presentation by highlighting the movement to advance medical homes. With the U.S. being the number one in the world for the cost of healthcare and ranked number 37 in the quality category, something needs to change. Rogers discussed the broad stakeholder support and participation for the movement, as well as the incredible volunteer involvement. The four ‘centers’ include: the Center to Promote Public-Payer Implementation, the Center for Multi-Stakeholder Demonstration, the Center for eHealth Information Adoption and Exchange and the Center for Health Benefit Redesign and Implementation. Medical Homes will provide superb access to care, patient engagament in care, clinical information systems, care coordination, team care, patient feedback and publically available information. Edwards explained that the Obama administration believes the medical homes concept is the best way to approach healthcare reform. The U.S. House of Representatives has showed great support for the movement and is helping develop and allocate funds for a five-year pilot program. She expressed her enthusiasm for the movement and her prediction that the medical home model is certainly the future of health care. At BPD in 2016, I attended a wonderful session by Drs. Becky Anthony and Jennifer Jewell of Salisbury University titled Building student connection by utilizing social media in the social work classroom. Today is the third day (Friday, March 3rd) of #BPDNOLA17, and I am presenting with some of my favorite #swtech peeps, Dr. Nathalie Jones of Tarleton State University and Dr. Melanie Sage of the University of North Dakota, at 1:45pm in Bayside C at the Sheraton in New Orleans. We will be talking about an infographic assignment that we jointly developed and implemented with students at each of our campuses. The use of infographics for classroom assignments is becoming commonplace in higher education, although less is known about its use in social work education. Our workshop will review how we collaborated to develop, implement and evaluate an infographic assignment for courses across the social work curriculum

One of the key differences between Presto and Hive, also a crucial functional requirement Facebook made when launching this new SQL engine project, was to have the opportunity to query different kinds of data sources via a uniform ANSI SQL interface. Presto, an open source distributed analytical SQL engine, implements this with it’s connector architecture, creating an abstraction layer for anything that can be expressed as in a row-like format, ranging from MySQL tables, HDFS, Amazon S3 to NoSQL stores, Kafka streams and proprietary data sources. Presto connector SPI allows anyone to implement a Presto connector and benefit from the capabilities of the Presto SQL engine, enabling them to join data from various sources within a single SQL query.
