PROFILE
I am a skilled Project Manager and writer with over fifteen years experience creating and
commissioning inventive audio, video and written content for a number of national institutions. My
expertise and chief area of interest is in nature writing and landscape interpretation. I currently
manage a public engagement project to create geographical walks, trails and views around Britain for
the Royal Geographical Society http://www.discoveringbritain.org and have recently commissioned
and edited writers including Mark Cocker, Patrick Barkham and Nicholas Crane.
I can offer you a creative approach to project management, rigorous research, high quality prose and
expert production across a wide variety of platforms. I have experience of and enjoy working on
community participation projects, have strong listening and interviewing skills and a proven track

Discovering Britain Project Manager (part-time) (September 2010-Current)
I currently manage Discovering Britain, an innovative UK-wide project producing brand new walks,
short interpretive trails and viewpoints that tell the geographical, historical and cultural stories of our
islands. As well as writing and producing my own content I also regularly commission and work
with other writers, photographers, academics and explorers to create new ‘story-led’ walks and trails
which tell Britain’s unique landscape stories. From research and script writing to recording audio
interviews, sound editing, photography, image research and way finding, I oversee all aspects of
production and publishing online and in print.
FREELANCE PROJECTS (January 2010-September 2010)
- Ye Attic Abode – Working with a local community group to create a new animated short film
for a multimedia project at Leeds Museum.
- Scripting and voicing animations explaining the basics of filmmaking for BFI Education
- Writing and producing a new Isles of Scilly audio guide for English Heritage
- Writing and producing an updated tour of Jedburgh Abbey for Historic Scotland
- Writing and producing an updated tour for Holyrood House, Scotland
- Co-writing the audio tour for a Henry Moore exhibition at Tate Britain
- Production and script editing for audio and multimedia guides for the Pompidou Centre and the
Louvre in Paris, the Hermitage in Amsterdam.

Lead Producer (October 2008 - January 2010)
As Lead Producer I managed a team of 5 and created audio and visual interpretation for
museums, galleries, heritage sites, tourist attractions and cultural institutions, leading the process
from initial creative concept through to final delivery.
Key projects include:
- 'Yours, Vincent' a downloadable iPhone app for the Van Gogh Museum telling the story of
Vincent Van Gogh through his letters.
- Van Gogh's Blog a brand new blog/website with a twice weekly posting that reproduces
excerpts from the artist's letters along with his original sketches.

Acting Head of DVD (2006 - 2008)
Key responsibilities:
- Managing a team of six and an annual budget of £300,000
- Delivering a schedule of approx 40 DVDs per year
- Attending film festivals, conferences and markets to acquire new films
- Developing close relationships with filmmakers, rightsholders and other stakeholders to
achieve best results
Achievements:
I successfully managed the DVD team during a difficult period of restructure, whilst continuing
to produce my own portfolio of prestigious projects. Highlights included collaborating with Sir
Christopher Frayling to produce brand new commentaries and documentaries for the UK release
of The Innocents, and working with a team of writers in L.A to produce brand new film and
audio for the DVD release of the original Japanese Godzilla.
Senior Producer - DVD Publishing (2001 – 2006)
Key responsibilities:
- Managing and developing DVD projects from conception to final delivery
- Commissioning curators, academics, writers and experts to write original scripts for DVD
commentaries and sleeve notes.
- Booking sound and film studios, directing recordings, editing and mixing down audio
- Sourcing and booking locations for filming
- Directing cameramen and self-shooting filmed introductions, interviews, documentaries
- Creating detailed project briefs including budgets and schedules
- Research, rights negotiation and acquisition of archive and new materials
Achievements:
I had the privilege to work on some of the best moving image material from around the world,
specialising in British film and television, from the Edwardian newsreels of Mitchell and Kenyon
through to kitchen sink dramas including The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner and
Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, along with archive television classics like Whistle and I’ll
Come to You and The Stone Tape. I collaborated closely with writers including Blake Morrison,
Peter Ackroyd, Marina Warner and Gilbert Adair, to create scripts and new liner notes. A major
highlight was producing a three-volume box set of British Documentary Films, Land of Promise,
which The Guardian reviewed as 'Outstanding…a vivid, invaluable aid to understanding 20th-
century Britain.'
Archive Projects Producer - British Film Institute (2000)
Key responsibilities:
- Developing new film programmes in partnership with key organisations including The
Women’s Library and The Museum of London
- Supervising the sound and picture transfer and restoration of all film elements
- Sourcing and licensing additional contextual material (text, image, interview)
- Working closely with musicians, actors and writers to create new audio and video features

3. I worked closely with curators and experts to identify unique materials held in the UK’s National
Film and Television Archive and developed a number of projects for online and DVD delivery
including Dickens Before Sound, The Films of Mitchell and Kenyon and The Lost World of
Friese-Green, which became a major BBC television programme.
Press Officer - British Film Institute (1998-2000)
Key responsibilities:
- Research, copy writing and design of press releases
- Copy editing and proof reading of video sleeves and press releases
- Working closely with sales and marketing to maximise opportunities
- Developing relationships with writer and reviewers, managing press database
- Advertising - writing copy, managing design and print, booking ad space
Achievements:
As part of a small, dedicated team publishing mainly foreign language and documentary films I
gained experience of balancing the creative aspects of production with the reality of a high
pressure schedule. I raised the profile of the BFI's video and DVD label by forging strong
relationships with film critics and reviewers including an annual press launch for 100+ guests.
