1. Fix Error Code 50
Many people complaint that Mac shows Error Code 50. It is basically a file transfer error. It appears
when you copy files to other locations- sometimes on the same hard drive or to an external hard drive.

Here are a few tips and tweaks to resolve this problem.
1. Copy Files using Terminal
2. Check Partition Map
3. Change Power Settings
4. Split Large Files into Several Parts
Copy Files using Terminal
Instead of copying the files manually try using the Terminal program. Do not type the command I have
given below. Simply drag this command in the Terminal window and proceed next. In this way you might
not receive Error Code 50.
1. Open Finder
2. Click Go | Utilities | Terminal. Otherwise press Shift + Command + U.
3. The Terminal window shall open.
4. Drag and drop following command: (Please do not type it manually)
diskutil list
5. Press Return.
6. Follow the instructions on your screen.
2. Check Partition Map
The Disk Utility can be located via your Recovery Disk. Use it to verify and repair degraded SSD. Check
the Partition map as well.
1. Reboot your Mac with the Recovery Disk you have.
2. Open Disk Utility.
3. Verify and Repair the SSD.
4. Results shall appear on your screen.
5. Check drive permission and other settings.
6. Check Partition Map.
Change Power Settings
Check the Power Plan and Power Adapter settings. Enable automatic sleep for your hard disk when it is
idle. These settings are located in the Energy Saver options.
1. Click System Preferences | Energy Saver.
2. Check-up the “Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible” box.
3. Click OK.
Split Large Files into Several Parts
The files which you’re trying to copy could be too large. Splitting them into several small parts will fix
error code 50. Use a file compressor program such as Free 7 Zip File Manager.
1. Download, install and run 7 Zip File Manager.
2. Drag the files which you tried to copy.
3. Provide archive name, archive format, compression level, compression method and other details.
4. Under “Split to volumes (bytes)” drop down box, select the most convenient split type.
5. Click OK.
6. The file compression process shall start. Wait a while.
7. Exit.
8. Select all the splitted files, copy them to the destination folder.
