4. Activity Two – Finding Legislation using Austlii
The Austlii website is a database where you can find Australian case law and
legislation.
Many (but not all) criminal offences in NSW are found in a piece of
legislation called the Crimes Act 1900 (NSW).
Follow these steps to find the pieces of legislation that apply to Billy.
a. Visit www.austlii.edu.au
b. Click on the “New South Wales” link on the left hand side under Cases
and Legislation
c. Click on the “New South Wales Consolidated Acts” link under NSW
Legislation
d. Click on “C” for Crimes Act 1900 (NSW)
e. Click on “Crimes Act 1900”. You should now see a list of the sections
of the Crimes Act. Click on and read the following sections:
a. Section 178B
b. Section 513
c. Section 118
f. Task: How would each of these sections apply to Billy’s story?
