• German Studies program – designated a German Center of Excellence in
2016 by the American Association of Teachers of German
• Foreign Language Day – exploring and celebrating languages,
literatures, and cultures of the 12 languages offered by the Department of

• Crisis Simulation workshop, How to Contain Crisis in Today’s Viral World

• In 2018, the online bachelor’s degree program in Geography was
ranked second among the nation’s top five online geography degree

• Department of History and Philosophy
• The only undergraduate Philosophy program in the continental United States,
that offers both non-western and continental philosophy courses
• Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society) – two of our students presented their
research at the organization’s Biennial Convention in 2018, which was held in
New Orleans
• In 2017, Public History students alongside the program coordinator, assisted in a
two-year project to tell the history of Adairsville and the surrounding area
• The Philosophy Student Association has received multiple awards over the
years as a leading student organization on campus
• Department of Psychological Science
• The Psychology program is featured in the SR Education Group 2019 national
online college rankings
• Faculty from the Department of Psychological Science recently took students to
study abroad in China, Peru, Scotland, and Vietnam

• Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice
• Dr. Evans’ “Police in America” class – currently engaged in a semester-long
project to identify and interview an individual in the community to speak to
the class regarding class content
• Encourages students to actively engage in research with faculty members
• Sociology of Migration class recently participated in a tour of Immigrant
Atlanta, including several stops along Buford Highway
• Criminal Justice program hosts a study abroad group to the Netherlands and
Germany
• Focus on responses to human rights violations, war crimes, trafficking,
sexual violence, addiction and prostitution and supranational efforts to
promote justice and sustain global peace
• Currently offers an Accelerated Bachelor’s – Master’s (ABM) program in
Criminal Justice

• Department of Interdisciplinary Studies
• Newest major, Asian Studies, continues to grow
• The program in African & African Diaspora Studies (AADS) has a new
faculty member, Dr. Luciane Rocha, whose academic interests include
anti-black violence and Black motherhood.
• Department of Technical Communication and Interactive Design (TCID)
• 4 students recently participated in the 12 week, fully paid User
Experience (UX) internship at Home Depot. The two students received
offers of fulltime employment based on their summer performance
• School of Government and International Affairs
• The online Political Science degree is ranked as 8th best online program
nationally.
Student Involvement
• The KSU Model NATO team competed at the International Model NATO
Conference in Washington, D.C. and won five committee awards and the
overall Outstanding Delegation Award
• Kennesaw State University hosted the National Conference on Undergraduate
Research (NCUR), the largest event of its kind in the country, April 11-13
• More than 4,000 undergraduate students presented their research at the
Kennesaw Campus, including more than 800 attendees from 30 colleges
and universities in Georgia — 400 of those from KSU
• In November of 2018, the Kennesaw State University Model United Nations
teams won the Outstanding Delegation Award at the Southern Regional Model
United Nations Conference
• KSU teams won a total of 17 awards, setting a new record for the student
organization.

  • 3. Who are we? • 6,570 students enrolled in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (as of Fall 2018) • 11 schools/departments • 22 majors • 52 minors and certificates
  • 4. CHSS Mission • To prepare students with a liberal arts education that empowers them to understand the human condition, meet the challenges of the twenty-first century, and become contributing citizens in a global society
  • 5. CHSS Features • Department of Foreign Languages • German Studies program – designated a German Center of Excellence in 2016 by the American Association of Teachers of German • Foreign Language Day – exploring and celebrating languages, literatures, and cultures of the 12 languages offered by the Department of Foreign Languages • School of Communication and Media • Crisis Simulation workshop, How to Contain Crisis in Today’s Viral World with guest speaker, Dale Weiss, Senior Vice President of CommCore • School of Communication and Media upcoming events • War of the Words competition • Public Speaking Competition

CHSS Features • Department of Geography and Anthropology • Anthropology events and community outreach • International Archaeology Day celebration, Fernbank Museum Days, and the Atlanta Science Festival Exposition • Geographical Information Systems program • Annual GIS night at Burnt Hickory Brewery • In 2018, the online bachelor’s degree program in Geography was ranked second among the nation’s top five online geography degree programs
  • 7. CHSS Features • Department of History and Philosophy • The only undergraduate Philosophy program in the continental United States, that offers both non-western and continental philosophy courses • Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society) – two of our students presented their research at the organization’s Biennial Convention in 2018, which was held in New Orleans • In 2017, Public History students alongside the program coordinator, assisted in a two-year project to tell the history of Adairsville and the surrounding area • The Philosophy Student Association has received multiple awards over the years as a leading student organization on campus • Department of Psychological Science • The Psychology program is featured in the SR Education Group 2019 national online college rankings • Faculty from the Department of Psychological Science recently took students to study abroad in China, Peru, Scotland, and Vietnam

CHSS Features • Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice • Dr. Evans’ “Police in America” class – currently engaged in a semester-long project to identify and interview an individual in the community to speak to the class regarding class content • Encourages students to actively engage in research with faculty members • Sociology of Migration class recently participated in a tour of Immigrant Atlanta, including several stops along Buford Highway • Criminal Justice program hosts a study abroad group to the Netherlands and Germany • Focus on responses to human rights violations, war crimes, trafficking, sexual violence, addiction and prostitution and supranational efforts to promote justice and sustain global peace • Currently offers an Accelerated Bachelor’s – Master’s (ABM) program in Criminal Justice

CHSS Features • Department of Interdisciplinary Studies • Newest major, Asian Studies, continues to grow • The program in African & African Diaspora Studies (AADS) has a new faculty member, Dr. Luciane Rocha, whose academic interests include anti-black violence and Black motherhood. • Department of Technical Communication and Interactive Design (TCID) • 4 students recently participated in the 12 week, fully paid User Experience (UX) internship at Home Depot. The two students received offers of fulltime employment based on their summer performance • School of Government and International Affairs • The online Political Science degree is ranked as 8th best online program nationally.

Student Involvement • The KSU Model NATO team competed at the International Model NATO Conference in Washington, D.C. and won five committee awards and the overall Outstanding Delegation Award • Kennesaw State University hosted the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), the largest event of its kind in the country, April 11-13 • More than 4,000 undergraduate students presented their research at the Kennesaw Campus, including more than 800 attendees from 30 colleges and universities in Georgia — 400 of those from KSU • In November of 2018, the Kennesaw State University Model United Nations teams won the Outstanding Delegation Award at the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference • KSU teams won a total of 17 awards, setting a new record for the student organization.
