3. Diabetes in the Gulf Area
According to the International Diabetes Federation
(IDF), five of the 10 countries where diabetes is most
prevalent are located in the six-nation Gulf Cooperation
Council (GCC).
Kuwait is the third while Qatar is sixth, Saudi Arabia
seventh, Bahrain eighth and the United Arab Emirates
is the Tenth.
Lebanon comes in fifth and the rest of the top 10 are
Pacific island nations with much smaller populations.

One of every 10 diabetic patients develop
diabetic foot problem.
Diabetes can cause double trouble to the feet.

5. Diabetes and Diabetic Foot
First, diabetes can reduce blood flow to the
feet, depriving feet of oxygen and nutrients.
This makes it more prone to complications like
blisters, sores, and cuts.
Second, the diabetic nerve damage called
“Peripheral Neuropathy” can cause numbness
in the feet.

6. Diabetes and Diabetic Foot
When patient can't feel cuts and blisters, she/he is
more likely to get sores and infections.
If patient does not notice or treat the sores, they can
become deeply infected, and lead to high possibility of
amputation.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy can also cause sharp
pain in the feet. Patient may become sensitive to the
lightest touch, like the sheets on bed.

9. Looks like regular socks and used by diabetic
patients to keep their foot healthy.
It is a non-binding and non-elastic sock which
is designed so as to not constrict the foot or
leg or affect the blood circulation.

10. They are manufactured from high performance
fiber with Nano powders that has antibacterial
properties and can reduce the risk of germs
growth.
The socks’ Nano Fibers (Dr. FreeTM) are
registered trade mark.

Infrared Rays (NanoRed) to improve the blood
circulation and keep your feet warm.
The fabric can also provide the function of
minus ions, which can relax nervous emotion
to keep the foot healthy.

12. Cool Best is a fiber with the function of specific
cross (+) section for speeding sweat away
from skin to the outer surface of fabric to make
skin feel dry, refreshing and comfortable.
Cool Best helps to decrease the incidence of
toes fungal infection through its mechanism.

13. The designs of the socks have seamless toe-
closures to reduce pressure and blistering and
cushioned area at the pressure points to reduce
pain.
The Socks are white in color that is preferable for
people with wounds or sores, as this could alert
wearers with compromised sensation to a draining
wound.

18. Study Abstract
Objective: To assess Acceptability of specially designed socks to provide
pressure relief in neuropathic diabetic foot
Study Type: Longitudinal multicenter patient evaluation study
Population: 86 neuropathic diabetic patients:
The results:
85% good or very good Patient satisfaction, 12% average and 3% poor.
10 out of 11 ulcers healed during this period.
Intention to continue wearing the socks, most or all of the time, was
expressed by 84% of patients.
Conclusions: Experimental socks are acceptable and have high level of
patient satisfaction and inexpensive addition to existing methods of
protecting the high-risk insensitive diabetic foot

20. Study Abstract
Objective: effect of sock fiber composition on the frequency and size of
blistering events in long-distance runners.
Study Type: A Longitudinal double-blind
Population: Thirty-five long-distance runners participated in this study.
Two different socks were tested, which were identical in every aspect of
construction except fiber composition: 100% acrylic fibers, and 100%
natural cotton fibers.
The results: Acrylic fiber socks were associated with fewer blistering
events and smaller blisters when compared directly to cotton fiber
socks.

22. Study Abstract
A total of 30 neuropathic outpatients with foot anhydrosis were randomized
into:
Group A, treated with sock with the nanocapsules
Group B wearing only socks without nanocapsules
Patients were blindly evaluated with a clinical score, hygrometry,
transepidermal water loss, skin temperature, and skin hardness at baseline
and after 6 weeks.
Group A significantly (P< .05) improved in all the parameters evaluated.
Group B showed no changes at the end of the treatment
No adverse events were recorded in both groups during the study.
Conclusion: The use of hydrating agents carried by nanocapsules-loaded
socks is safe and effective for the neuropathic diabetic foot.

24. Summary of the Study
The available evidence suggests that people with
diabetes who have “normal” feet should be able to
wear socks they find to be comfortable.
Socks should fit well, without constricting cuffs,
lumps, or uncomfortable seams. Therefore, fitted
socks are preferable to tube socks.
Lighter-colored socks may alert wearers with
compromised sensation to a draining wound.

25. Summary of the Study Cont.
Patients who are at risk for ulcer development because
of decreased pressure sensation should be advised to
wear densely padded socks.
Herring and Richie found that padded acrylic socks
produce less moisture at the skin surface and less
blistering in runners than do cotton socks.
Educators should recommend their patients to wear
padded acrylic socks when engaging in vigorous
exercise.
