2. • Fast and furious was produced by One Race Films, Universal Studios, China Film Group, Original Film,
Relativity Media, and Media Rights Capital
• The fact that all of these small companies came together and contributed towards the film meant that:
All risks are shared, all profits are shared, and all ideas can be combined
• Four of the production companies are based in America which would have helped to raise awareness
within the large market that’s situated in America. The other two are based in China and The Uk. Having
a variation of countries in the production of a movie helps to bring in ideas that will satisfy audiences
from around the world, and of course attract a larger market.
• Not only will having a large number of production companies allow ideas to be flowed in, it will also
allow for the film to have a high budget. Which of course was reflected on the CGI, Locations and cars
etc.. Involved in the film.
3. THE IMPORTANCE OF CROSS MEDIA CONVERGENCE AND SYNERGY
IN PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION AND MARKETING;
• One Race Films, Universal Studios, China Film Group, Original Film, Relativity Media, and
Media Rights Capital all came together to produce Fast And Furious 7. They came together to
increase capital, and share the overall experience.
• Universal studios distributed the film, who are a very big company with a net worth of $11.7
billion. They awere responsble for raising awareness by bringing a supercharged ride to
universal studios. The ride gave fans a full insight to the production of the film, and allowed
them to see their favourtie cars from previous films.
• All of the other comapanies have previously worked on other fast and furious films, and
therefore, with their experience they were all able to work together to give the fans what
they wanted.
• Examples of this include; lots of teaser trailers, a video game, posters and childrens toys. And
simply, keeping the film to the way in which fans like it.
4. • Fast and Furious 7 used CGI to help it be as successful as it was along with other complex digital effects.
Due to the tragic death of Paul Walker whilst they were half way through the making of Fast and Furious
7, they had to use CGI on Paul Walker’s brother to allow the film to be made. If it wasn’t for the high
standard of technology which is used in this film, the film would’ve lost money due to the film not being
able to finish because of a main character in the film not being able to be there to help finish the film
off.
• Due to the recent introduction of Blu-Ray, more sales of the film were made in this way. Also, the film
was able to be watched in the cinema which allowed more sales due to people treating the cinema as a
day out with friends and family as well as being there to watch the film. With 3D being quite recent
technology, the new perspective of being able to see the film will encourage customers to go to the
cinema to watch as it is an experience that can only be witnessed at the cinema or unless you have a 3D
TV which is expensive.
5. • Fast and Furious 7 had to alter the way the film company works now that this generation of people uses
technology such as phones, PC’s and tablets which would enable them to watch the film without having
to go the cinema. This allows the audiences to watch the film with ease such as downloading it at a cost
rather than travelling to the cinema costing te customers more money to watch the same film. Although
it is cheaper to watch the film at home downloading it or buying it on DVD, the cinema allows the film
to be watched in different ways such as in 3D but also on such a big screen to prefer the atmosphere
and experience.
• With some people not going to the cinema to watch the latest films, it will changing the audiences
viewing habits not that they don’t have to go to watch the film as it is more convenient for them to
download it at a cost.
6. the importance of technological convergence for institutions
and audiences;
Technology has helped the movie to be promoted by showing the trailer frequently on TV during
adverts between shows on major channels that millions of people are watching. The film was also
promoted on social media sites through the use of teaser trailers, posters, interviews and behind the
scene videos. This would have made the public more interested in the film and more aware that the
franchise was releasing their 7th movie.
After the film was shown at cinemas, Fast and Furious 7 was released on DVD and blu-Ray for
audiences to watch it at home, also the film was available on iTunes for download and was also on
numerous streaming websites.
As well as that, the soundtrack was available on ITunes for download, this included the song by
Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.
Without the use of technology, this film would not have been completed as during the middle of
filming there was the unfortunate death of Paul Walker. After this, the production team decided to
recreate Pauls character through the use of CGI and the help from his brother.
7. The issues raised in the targeting
of national and local audiences;
Fast and furious has been a huge film franchise since the first movie was released
back in 2001, since then the films have been a huge hit in the US and the UK as it
was mainly filmed at Universal studios and involves some huge actors known by the
British and US public. However, the film was also released in 76 other countries. One
way of promoting the film in different countries is by filming certain scenes in special
locations around the world. For example the film was shot in America, Colorado, Abu
Dhabi, and Tokyo. This would have helped promote the film in these countries, as
there would have been news of them being there and people would of seen the
visual stunts being recorded. As people would of seen the scenes being shot, then it
may have made them want to go and see the film.
As the film was released in many countries, the trailers didn’t change, apart from the
language and sub titles.
8. • As some people prefer to watch the film at the cinema due to the atmosphere it creates as it is on a big
screen and there is the option to watch the film in 3D which creates a different perspective of watching
the film. After watching it at the cinema, then a minority of the audience would purchase the film on
DVD as it allows them to watch it again but wouldn’t be able to watch the film again in 3D unless they
had an expensive 3D TV which would allow this feature.
• If the marketing aspect of a film is good, it helps to create good word of mouth allowing everyone to
know about the film to help the production company to maximise on its profits and to allow all of the
customers to watch the film.
